The LEGO Technic line was first released as “Expert Builder” sets in 1977, and LEGO has been producing Technic ever since, including Bionicle and MINDSTORMS. The custom Technic models featured here on The Brothers Brick include some pretty crazy and amazing mechanisms that’ll blow your mind, from self-sorting LEGO to automated Rubik’s Cube solvers.

Winter, spring, summer, or fall

Vivaldi’s Le quattro stagioni is one of the most renowned pieces of music in the world, and served as newcomer ArmoredBricks’ inspiration for this moving (and moving!) LEGO model.

What sets this rendered model apart to me is not only the masterful instrument recreations but the titular seasons represented by small vignettes each crafted in their own clean, colorful way. Each one is such a clear personification of a season of the year. My favorite season vignette is the crooked, budding tree representing the spring season:

LEGO 42107 Ducati Panigale V4 R motorcycle revealed as newest Technic superbike [News]

LEGO has revealed it’s latest Technic model, the 42107 LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R. The sleek superbike comes with 646 pieces which make up the motorcycle’s Technic core and red exterior. The Ducati Panigale V4 R is also the first motorcycle model in LEGO Technic history to include a gearbox.

42107 LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R will retail for $69.99 USD | 54.99 GBP | 99.99 CAD beginning on June 1st this summer.

LEGO goes Fast & Furious with Technic 42111 Dom’s Dodge Charger [News]

LEGO has revealed the Technic 42111 Dom’s Dodge Charger, a 1,077-piece set depicting the iconic car driven by Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) in the Fast & Furious film franchise. The 1:13 scale model features details from its on-screen inspiration like a V8 engine, double-wishbone suspension, a wheelie bar and a few extra nitro bottles in the trunk.

The set announcement comes only a mere two months after we first reported that LEGO had entered into a partnership with the Fast & Furious film franchise. Dom’s Dodge Charger will retail for US $99.99 | CAN $139.99 | UK £89.99 with pre-orders available immediately. The sets will become globally available on April 27th.

LEGO Technic 42108 Mobile Crane [Review]

Did you know that the very first LEGO Technic mobile crane was released more than 40 years ago? The lovely 855 Mobile Crane became the eighth product in the Technic lineup since its start in 1977. Despite its simple design, it had every essential function of a real machine. A handful of mobile (and stationary) cranes have been released since then. The year 2020 brings yet another one, 42108 Mobile Crane. During the previous decade, the variety of LEGO Technic pieces have evolved a lot, and multiple new mechanisms have been introduced, too. The question is, how many of those new concepts are implemented in the latest set and how different is it from the previous versions of mobile cranes? Let’s build and test this 1,292-piece set, which retails at US $99.99 | CAN $139.99 | UK £89.99, and find out if it is worth a purchase.

The next LEGO Technic premium set is a 1:8 Lamborghini supercar [News]

Confirmed today at the Nuremberg International Toy Fair 2020, the next LEGO Technic exclusive set will be a scaled copy of a Lamborghini supercar. The set will be the third in the LEGO Technic Ultimate Series of supercars following 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS and 42083 Bugatti Chiron. Just like the other two cars, the new Lamborghini will also come in massive 1:8 scale, but the price is up to 379 Euro, which makes it the second most expensive LEGO Technic set after 42100 Liebherr R 9800 Excavator.

The new LEGO Technic 42115 Lamborghini supercar is scheduled for exclusive release on June 1st and will be officially available in stores from August 1st. Piece count, regional prices and official pictures of the set are yet to come, so stay tuned!

This awesome 1:13-scale LEGO model of a Maz airfield firetruck uses more than 9,000 pieces

Usually, when you accumulate a whole lot of red LEGO pieces in your collection, there are two things you would consider for your next building project: a Ferrari or a firetruck. Since Ilya Luashkin had also got huge off-road Technic tires, it was a no-brainer. This 1:13 scale copy of the MAZ-7313-AA60 airfield firetruck is the result of more than 400 hours of meticulous planning and building. Consisting of more than 9,000 pieces, the model is nearly 47 in (120 cm) long and weighs almost 20 lbs (9 kg).

The exterior of the truck might seem a little bit boring, but Ilya made sure to precisely copy all 22 doors and compartments that the real truck has. And it would not be a proper LEGO Technic build without a custom-designed chassis featuring fully independent suspension. Because of the sheer weight of the model, the body rests on 13 pairs of the hardest LEGO Technic shock absorbers. Continue reading →

Build your own Stadium Truck Alternate Model [Instructions]

If you loved the official 42110 Land Rover Defender set but are wondering what the heck you can do with it now, then you may be thrilled to learn that its designer Milan Reindl has some opinions on the matter. He has used the same parts and constructed a Super Stadium Truck or Short Course Truck based on an RC model he has. It features all-wheel drive with 3 differentials, a 3-speed sequential gearbox with neutral and a V8 engine. The front axle has independent suspension and is mounted with positive caster angle to absorb the impacts from uneven surfaces. The rear axle features a 4-link suspension. The truck has front axle steering and an opening hood. The interior features a driver’s seat, 5-gallon jug, gear shifter lever and rearview mirror. The spare wheel is mounted on the reinforcing frame in the rear.

Completing a lap around the test track in LEGO Technic 42109 App-Controlled Top Gear Rally Car [Review]

Some say that LEGO is only meant for kids and season 3 of Top Gear was the best one. All we know is LEGO and the BBC are bringing a very special LEGO Technic set, 42109 App-Controlled Top Gear Rally Car, and it is powered by a couple of new Powered Up motors. Thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, the car can be controlled via an app installed on a smartphone or a tablet. Despite the smart elements under the bonnet, the model consists of just 463 pieces, which makes it one of the smallest LEGO remote-controlled cars ever released. The set comes with a price tag of US $129.99 | CAN $179.99 | UK £124.99 and is already available in stores.

A Technic gunmetal Ford GT is cocked and loaded

Builder Lachlan Cameron has replicated the 2019 Ford GT quite nicely with Technic bits in an understated gunmetal gray. Much of its complex shaping is achieved through considerable build skill and liberal use of flex tubing cased in Technic pin connectors along the roofline and hood details, while the same treatment is achieved with 1×3 liftarms along the front fenders. I’m a fan of sports cars with an understated primary color scheme but a flashy secondary color (in this case tertiary color in red)…Well, it’s just enough flash to let us know it means serious business.

The real thing is loaded with six cylinders in the chamber, seemingly a underwhelming number for such an aggressive beast. With this in mind, you may be tempted to race this car in your Monte Carlo but doing so would be akin to bringing a knife to a gunfight, which so many action spy movies attest is a bad idea. It can crank 647 horsepower out of those six bullets with a top speed of 216 mph. Lock, stock and barrel, this is one fast projectile indeed!

Four new LEGO Technic 2020 sets are revealed [News]

The first of LEGO Technic 2020 sets, 42109 App-Controlled Top Gear Rally Car, was revealed yesterday. Today, we are having the first look at more LEGO Technic 2020 sets, which were just published online by some retailers. The new products look as fresh as ever, while the lineup includes a broad range of types of vehicles. Each of the sets will be officially available starting Dec. 26, 2019, however, we don’t have full USD prices yet.
