LEGO Minecraft Big Figs Series 1: 21148 Steve with Parrot, 21149 Alex with Chicken, and 21150 Skeleton with Magma Cube [Review]

Minecraft keeps getting bigger — and I’m not just talking about the game’s record-breaking sales. The original LEGO Minecraft set I helped design back in 2011 as part of LEGO’s early Ideas platform was microscale, mostly due to the steep constraints of hitting a roughly $30 MSRP target. Later, that first wildly successful set was followed by more microscale sets, and finally in 2014 the theme got upgraded to our original vision by introducing minifigure-scale sets. Recently, LEGO bumped up the scale a bit with 41612 Steve and Creeper BrickHeadz. Now LEGO Minecraft is upping its game once more with a new line called Big Figs, and we’ve got the first series comprising three sets to review: 21148 Steve with Parrot, 21149 Alex with Chicken, and 21150 Skeleton with Magma Cube. Each of the sets contains a large figure paired with a small animal from the game, and will be available January 1 for $14.99 USD.

LEGO Minecraft series expands in 2019 with BigFigs [News]

From humble beginnings as a single microscale set, the LEGO Minecraft series has grown into a cornerstone of the LEGO product line. In addition to two new minifigure-scale sets, the January 2019 wave includes a new concept — buildable “BigFigs” of Minecraft characters.

The initial series of BigFigs includes playable characters Steve and Alex as well as a Skeleton enemy character (or “hostile mob” in Minecraft parlance). Each BigFig set also comes with a smaller secondary character — Alex comes with a chicken, Steve comes with a parrot, and the Skeleton comes with a Magma Cube. We’ll be bringing you hands-on reviews of these sets very soon, but for now you can take a look at the official images below.

LEGO BrickHeadz 41612 Steve and Creeper from Minecraft [Review]

Having a Minecraft set in LEGO is the best form of flattery in some weird and wonderful way. Minecraft was meant to be the LEGO of the digital world, and here we are now reviewing a franchise character that LEGO inspired in the first place – making a jump back from the virtual world to a physical one. I am for one a fan of Minecraft, from its indie startup roots to its recent acquisition by Microsoft and the vast cult-like following it has all over the world, though I’ve never taken to the characters in the universe as much as the overall gameplay. The LEGO Minecraft BrickHeadz 41612 Steve and Creeper come numbered 58 and 59 respectively in the continuation of the series. The two-pack costs $19.99 for 160 pieces.

Steve and Creeper are the next BrickHeadz duo to be released later this year [News]

There is barely a day without news about the next BrickHeadz set, and here comes the next announcement by LEGO: a 41612 double pack will feature Steve and Creeper figures. Judging by the size of the set, we expect it to be priced at $19.99, just like any other BrickHeadz double pack. What do you think about the new set? Let us know in the comment section!

3 new LEGO Minecraft sets announced, including a skeleton trap & skull arena [News]

LEGO has just announced three more sets to the incredibly popular Minecraft theme. Having spawned from an Ideas set designed by fans (including yours truly) the Minecraft theme now consists entirely of minifigure-scale sets with lots of animals. Each set has an emphasis on modularity that’s consistent with Minecraft’s aesthetic.

21145 The Skull Arena | 198 pieces | 19.99 (USD) 24.99 (CAD) | Available in August

This PvP arena set includes lots of rare features like Minecraft’s infamous Killer Bunny (a Monty Python reference), along with a golden apple, though it’s unclear if it’s enchanted or not. For LEGO builders, it’s worth noting the pearl gold 2×2 bricks, which is a new color for one of LEGO’s most common elements. This set includes a pair of player minifigures.

Largest LEGO Minecraft set 21137 The Mountain Cave now available with free canvas tote bag [News]

The largest-ever LEGO Minecraft set 21137 The Mountain Cave is now available from the LEGO Store for VIP members (free to join). Coming in at an impressive 2,863 pieces and a retail price of $249.99, this minifigure-scale Minecraft set is the second-largest new LEGO set this year, coming behind the 4,002-piece modular 10255 Assembly Square.

As the name implies, the set features a sizable stone mountain (12in, or 31cm, high at the peak) that’s riddled with caves. The mountain’s footprint is 20x11in (53x29cm), and has minecart tracks, a small home, and a light brick that can be positioned to illuminate a jack o’ lantern, lava, or several other features. The set comes with several new printed elements, along with two minifigures (Steve and Alex), plus a cave spider, wolf, baby wolf, slime, 2 small slimes, 2 bats, zombie, enderman, skeleton, sheep and a charged Creeper.

LEGO is also offering a free exclusive canvas tote bag with purchases of $199 or more from now until the end of the month, while supplies last. Enter the code JUNE at checkout to apply the offer.

Largest ever LEGO Minecraft set announced: 21137 The Mountain Cave [News]

The LEGO Minecraft world just got a whole lot bigger. Today LEGO has announced the largest set yet for the minifigure-scale theme, 21137 The Mountain Cave. Coming in at a staggering 2,863 pieces and a retail price of $249.99 when it arrives July 1, young Minecraft fans had better hope Grandma has deep pockets if they put this on the wishlist (though the set does also hit the highest age target in the Minecraft theme at 12+). This is the second large exclusive for the Minecraft theme, following last year’s 21128 The Village.

LEGO Minecraft 21128 The Village [Review]

Ah, LEGO Minecraft… Some consider it the perfect pairing of the physical and virtual worlds of building, while others are left scratching their heads at what they consider glorified basic brick boxes with Minecraft branding. Either way, the latest offering in the LEGO Minecraft line is the largest one to date. It’s a playset version of one possible arrangement of a village randomly generated when loading a new Minecraft world, a recognizable landmark for even an occasional player like myself. How does 21128 The Village, with 1600 pieces, eleven minifigures, and a price tag of $199.99 USD, hold up to a LEGO fan like myself, or to a hardcore Minecraft fan?
