LEGO and Nintendo reveal new Super Mario product line [News]

LEGO and Nintendo have revealed a new Super Mario product line that features an interactive LEGO Mario figure who collects coins in levels created with physical LEGO bricks. The partnership with Nintendo was teased earlier this week and will bring an entirely new kind of game experience based on everyone’s favorite plumber. The oversized Mario figure contains a screen and speaker and reacts to the level built around it.

The press release from LEGO calls the new lineup “neither a video game nor a traditional LEGO brick-based set,”  letting kids create their own gaming environment like Super Mario Maker except with physical bricks. LEGO Super Mario will be available “later this year” with no specific date mentioned. (EDIT: Read our exclusive interview with one of the designers of LEGO Super Mario for more info.)

LEGO Designer Pierre Normandin talks about his inspirations for the new LEGO Creator Expert 10271 Fiat 500 set [Video]

Last weekend, LEGO revealed the latest addition to the LEGO Creator Expert garage — an adorable 10271 Fiat 500 set. Although it is the smallest model in the line-up of large scale vehicles, don’t let its modest dimensions and piece count fool you. There is more to this lovely car than meets the eye, and there’s no better way to learn all the secrets and inspirations rather than shared by the model’s designer Pierre Normandin.

In the most recent LEGO Designer Video, he speaks about the challenges of designing such an unusual car, reveals the meaning of the number plate, and shows his favorite part of the model.

10271 Fiat 500 is available directly from LEGO Stores and LEGO.com for US $89.99 | CAN $129.99 | UK £74.99.

LEGO Speed Champions 76899 Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Huracán Super Trofeo EVO [Review]

LEGO may have released a batch of new March 2020 LEGO sets yesterday, but there’s still a wealth of sets from January worth taking another look at. One of the biggest changes to happen within a LEGO theme is the change in LEGO Speed Champions models from six studs wide to eight studs wide. While I personally enjoyed 76896 Nissan GT-R NISMO, comments from builders indicated that the GT-R may not showcase the change as well as other models might. 76899 Lamborghini Urus ST-X & Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO (US $49.99 | CAN $69.99 | UK £54.99) includes two models built from 663 pieces that I think both illustrate the benefits of the change.

LEGO’s newest Creator Expert vehicle revealed as the Italian classic Fiat 500 [News]

One of the best things that have happened to the LEGO Creator Expert theme over the previous decade is the introduction of large scale vehicle sets. It all started with a fantastic 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van set in 2011. Soon we got a taste of iconic British motorcars with 10242 MINI Cooper MK VII and even got behind the wheel of the charged version of 10265 Ford Mustang. Today, LEGO invites all car enthusiasts on a road trip down the Amalfi Coast with the newest addition to the Creator Expert garage, 10271 Fiat 500 set. The set consists of 960 pieces and will retail for the price of US $89.99 | CAN $129.99 | UK £74.99; it will be available directly from LEGO Stores & LEGO.com from March 1, 2020.
