LEGO’s event today in New York City has unveiled more of the LEGO Star Wars sets that the company had held back from Toy Fair in February. Although much of the event is focused on the current product assortment, including sets like 75208 Yoda’s Hut and all of the Solo: A Star Wars Story LEGO sets, the event has given us a look at some exciting new sets being released over the next few months.

Live from the LEGO Fall Preview 2018 event, we’re bringing you our hands on experience with the newly revealed Harry Potter line, scheduled for release on August 1st. From first glance, it looks like the Wizarding World is being given the star treatment, so let’s dive in.

We announced the new Boost-powered App-Controlled Batmobile earlier today, but that wasn’t the only new Batman set in the works. LEGO’s got three new sets planned for August, including some all-new characters.

Featuring Batman, Brother Eye, and Batwoman, this set includes the full lineup of new Bat accessories and Brother Eye’s creepy floating eyeball satellite facing off against a very pointy Bat-Jet.

LEGO has just revealed four new Star Wars sets, available starting August 1. They include a new Sandcrawler, X-Wing, and Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter, along with a playset of Snoke’s Throne Room from The Last Jedi. Check out the images below, and check back later today as we’ll be bringing you a hands-on look at these sets (and much more!) from LEGO’s Fall 2018 Preview event this afternoon.

LEGO is expanding on its hit line of Boost programmable motorized kits. While the initial set was called Boost, the system it’s inspired will be called Powered Up. We got our first look at one of these back in February at Toy Fair with the Ninjago dragon Stormbringer, but today LEGO has announced that your favorite black-caped crusader, Batman, is getting some upgrades to his ride in the form of a programmable Batmobile. All of the Powered Up sets can be controlled via a smartphone or tablet app (on both iOS and Android), and some — like the Batmobile — will include motors while others need to be paired with the Boost set for full functionality. The LEGO Batman 76112 App-Controlled Batmobile will be available August 1 for $99.99. It includes 321 pieces.

While we got a look at the box art for the six sets a few weeks ago, today LEGO’s given us full images of all the sets, including the Unikitty Collectible character line. Like the Powerpuff Girls that LEGO also announced today, these sets will be available beginning August 1. As befits Unikitty and her zany band, the sets are filled with bright colors and play features. Because they’re primarily targeted at the young demographic of fans of the Unikitty television show, the sets themselves may not be the most exciting for adult fans, but look closely and you’ll spot some new elements that will certainly be useful.

After teasing the minifigures way back in February, LEGO has finally revealed two sets from the Powerpuff Girls theme. Both are small playsets, and the highlights for fans will definitely be the minifigures. They will be available August 1.

One of the things I enjoyed about the last season of Star Wars Rebels was the incorporation of the new canon material introduced in Star Wars: Rogue One, with mentions of Director Krennic, appearances by the Death Troopers, and Ryder’s U-Wing, constructed here in LEGO form. Inthert has done an excellent job depicting the beat up, minimalistic, utilitarian look Ryder’s U-Wing was known for.
A top-down shot allows us to see the greebling on the interior of the front nacelles, giving the ship an exposed look similar to that of the Y-Wing. Close inspection reveals the neat usage of minifigure walkie-talkie elements and old vehicle exhaust pieces as hoses of some sort.
Logey Bear has quite the talent in capturing expressive characters with unusual parts. His latest, Mario’s classic nemesis Donkey Kong, is excellent, making clever use of tan bananas and Bionicle masks to bring his iconic grin to life in LEGO.
When it comes to Star Wars fans, we have pretty strong feelings about many of the characters introduced over the years, which is evident in the wide variety of cosplay at comic and popular culture conventions. A few characters have generated serious hate, with Jar Jar Binks widely regarded as the worst Star Wars character ever. While I personally don’t have any issues with Rose Tico from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it seems some folks place her in the same category.
No matter how you might feel about Rose or Jar Jar, it’s hard to deny that they make great BrickHeadz models. LEGO 7 has successfully interpreted these characters in the style of the BrickHeadz theme, which is not an easy thing for non-human species.
One of my very favorite features that really completes Rose is her stun prod. LEGO 7 has also put together another pair of characters that would make a great BrickHeadz double pack: Sith Apprentice Darth Maul and his nemesis, Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi.
