Send the Republic Frigate...and also the entire Republic fleet
The star of the show here is clearly Fuku Saku’s 1:250 microscale LEGO Charger c70 Republic Frigate. It has all the right shaping and as much detail as a model twice or three times its size. However, let’s not discount the awesomeness of his Jedi Starfighters, Republic Gunships, and the LAAT/c Assault Carrier. In fact, I’m personally more enthralled with the smaller models. The new UCS Republic Gunship set is huge, even impressive. I voted for it but LEGO may be disappointed to learn that I may not get the set as it…I don’t know…just doesn’t have any more detail or playability than prior smaller Gunship sets. These microscale models, however, have as much detail and accuracy as they need and at just a fraction of the size. I can see myself hanging out with Fuku for a day, building several copies of these Republic Gunships and LAAT/c’s to pad out his Republic fleet over a couple of beers. It’s the kind of thing that makes us adult builders rather excited. What do you think of these microscale models?

2021 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 1

In 2021, we’re seeing the return of Harry Potter, Star Wars, City and Friends as advent calendar sets. Marvel is being introduced as a newcomer to the regular lineup of advent calendars, and boy was it fun to open those. Check out our daily advent build review below, starting with Day 1.
Star Wars isn’t just about fast ships and gunfights
It’s also about stunning vistas, and run-down buildings at the far edge of the galaxy. In this scene by GorillaGluedLEGO featuring a weather-worn structure in the middle of a jungle landscape, a lone figure feeds a small critter. He looks like a simple Bith trying to make his way in the universe. Or her way, it’s hard to tell with Bith, and most Star Wars names are pretty ambiguous. At any rate, there are lots of great details in this somewhat chaotic scene. The foreground is cluttered with various broken things, including an astromech, and what looks like a moisture vaporator, although it feels a bit out of place in a jungle. The building has some wonderful worn effects using color and texture to distress the exterior. There is another nice part usage in the vines wrapped around the trees, made from the plastic bit that is found surrounding leaf elements.
Visit Galaxy’s Edge in this massive collaborative LEGO build!
The planet Batuu lies at the edge of the known galaxy, a waypoint bordering the unknown regions. It is an outpost known only to a few. To get there, one must… go to Disneyland? In America?
Well, a group of European builders in the BrickzLab community shared the same sentiment and decided to build their own Galaxy’s Edge in LEGO – but set in the Dark Times era, which takes place after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
Nine talented builders came together to build this immersive town: Malen Garek, dogma_54, The Brickforce, Luca S Projects, LegoFordo, H2Brick, lego_earth_production, lego_fanboy, and W1chard. Their goal was to display it at the German LEGO exhibition of IDS Brickworld, and the result was a massive 190cm by 130cm (6.3′ by 4.3′) display lit up with custom LEGO-compatible LED lights by Lightailing.

A long, long time ago in Modesto, California a legend was born
I’ll admit a great deal of our bread and butter comes from LEGO Star Wars creations or sets. Or so they tell me. No one handed me any actual bread or butter but I hear it somehow greases the wheels of how this whole The Brothers Brick shindig works and it’s because y’all love Star Wars so much. It all started with George Lucas who inspired two or three generations while also creating Jar-Jar Binks and Watto. No one is perfect. This LEGO bust by Jannis Mavrostomos is pretty perfect, however. The resemblance to the legendary filmmaker is uncanny. The nose, ears, lips, glasses, even the checkered shirt and collar make use of some nifty parts and build techniques. A quick perusal through our archives proves Jannis is an up-and-coming builder we should be on the lookout for.
This incredible LEGO Star Wars build shows the temple on Yavin 4 after the war
The great temple on Yavin-4 was a Rebel Alliance headquarters early in their fight against the Empire. It even served as the main staging base for the assault on the original Death Star. But, once that massive space station was destroyed, the Rebels were forced to evacuate Yavin-4 and establish bases elsewhere in the galaxy. So, what happens to a rebel base after a hasty retreat? Markus Aspacher spent a year constructing an answer in LEGO for us.

A giant AT-AT footprint is the last thing you want to find in the snow.
Scout patrol on Hoth is one of the hardest jobs in the Rebel Alliance. When the weather is at its worst, a probe droid could be floating just a few feet away from your face and you’d never know it. The thick snow and the howling wind hides so much from your senses. “An AT-AT will be easy to spot,” you tell yourself. You let your guard down. Until you’re looking down at its footprint and wondering if the mechanical behemoth is standing over you right now…
To celebrate the release of the 75313 UCS AT-AT, Anthony has created a diorama of a lone Rebel Scout making a chilling discovery. In addition to crafting a realistically rough and rocky landscape, Anthony’s taken care to show how the weight of an AT-AT pushes the foot down into the snow and left an imprint through layers of rock on the planet surface. It really gives an impression of just how massive and imposing the AT-AT is. Anthony’s promising that some more Hoth builds are coming up soon from him. LEGO Star Wars reveals 6,800-piece Ultimate Collector Series 75313 AT-AT that’s actually minifigure scale [News]
LEGO has just taken the wraps off its next Ultimate Collector Series Star Wars set, a minifigure-scale version of the Empire’s most fearsome walker, the AT-AT. With 6,785 pieces, 75313 AT-AT stands over two feet tall and features a fully detailed interior. It includes nine minifigures, two speeder bikes, an E-Web turret, and enough firepower to take out a Rebel shield generator with ease. With a retail price of US $799.99 | CAN $949.99 | UK £749.99, the UCS AT-AT is taking its place along the 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon as the most expensive LEGO sets ever released. It is slated to be available starting Nov. 26.
