Oh no, a sand green chateau

One of the best parts of the LEGO hobby is the lovely LEGO online community that comes along with it. Some builders share their building process on instagram in their stories. Brian (St. Louis Brick Co.) is one of those people who takes their followers along on their building journey. Brian decided to build a castle in sand green and olive green. That’s a decision that might sound like a strange choice, but if you ask me, it works out wonderfully in the end. Not all castles need to be grey! Building in sand green also sounds like an immense challenge because you are quite limited in the bricks you can use, and I always admire builders who limit themselves as a challenge. I love the use of the brick with axle hole and the ornamental fence for windows is quite clever.

If you take a close look at some of the other pictures of this creation, you’ll notice that there is also a niche created for a sand green statue of a king, which is a very nice touch.

The Abyssal Daemon is here to brighten your day...or something

Can you believe this Abyssal Daemon is a belated Christmas present from one builder to another? I can, actually. The LEGO builders we feature here at The Brothers Brick are nothing if not fun and creative. Anthony Wilson has created this dastardly demon for Aiden Rexroad in honor of his style and now we’re all feeling warm and fuzzy. Or is that my head separating from my spine? It’s hard to tell the difference at times. I don’t think I’ve met these two gents in person but if I received such a gift I’d be pretty thrilled. Call me weird but I just love the skeletal batwings and the crescent moon-shaped head. But then again I’ve always been into odd things. How about you? What do you think?

The world according to LEGO

LEGO recently revealed 21332 The Globe that will go on sale next month, but according to Ralf Langer, it’s not really accurate to what LEGO world should look like. Where are the straight edges, the clean lines, the blocks? This cubic version Ralph designed is much better for our brickish hearts. The depth in the water and the tiled continents look gorgeous together, and as cool as the official set looks, it’s kind of making me want to redo it in this style already.

The year of Big Cat Energy

The Majestic Tiger set has been a quick favorite amongst LEGO fans since it was released this year. Aptly, this Chinese New Year will mark the Year of the Tiger within the Chinese calendar and Builder Ian Hou is ready to celebrate. Just like last year, Ian brings us the coming Zodiac animal in brick form with a fantastic level of realism. While LEGO’s version is articulated, the builder chose to portray this large, muscular feline in the middle of a biiiiiiiiig stretch. Unlike your cat, Count Mustard von Smittenstein, this kitty’s claws will do some real damage if they come out. One thing is certain, you’d be happy when that tail went down because, just like on the official set, the builder was…very detailed.

The fourth Law of Robotics: always keep your AI happy

What do you do when your drone tells you a lame joke? Right, you laugh. Look at Pascal Schmidt‘s drones. They are happy, which means the people around them are safe and happy, too. A combination of brutal dark gray mechanical suits and innocent smiling faces from DOTS gives me chills every time. Practically it’s the most effective way to give your build character, but in this case, the suits are excellent, too.

This new kitchen gadget slices, dices, and is guaranteed to steal every scene he’s in.

In Episode 4 of The Book of Boba Fett, the former bounty hunter encounters trouble in the form of a kitchen droid who hilariously calls back to Revenge of the Sith antagonist General Grievous. Jonas Kramm was so enamored of the adorable droid that he put together a little vignette of General Cleavous in action. The droid’s head comes together brilliantly, thanks in part to some older minifigure body wear. And the details all around the room, from the control panels to the meat hanging from chains, give the scene the unmistakable design of a desert Star Wars locale.

Mr Bean races to the finish on the roof of his classic Mini Cooper

Ryan McNaught has recreated this memorable scene from the Mr Bean TV series. The charming character can be seen here taking an optimal vantage point by steering his car from a chair strapped to the roof, while he uses a broom to access the pedals. The Mini Cooper has a great build, which must have taken some planning to portray the rounded angles of the vehicle. The face of the character is instantly recognizable, as Ryan included Mr. Bean’s prominent eyebrows and even the mole on his cheek. But perhaps it is actually Mr. Bean’s Teddy who is pulling the strings as the stuffed animal sits in the driver’s seat…

And everything under the sun is in tune

Every once in a while we get a build that is out of this world. Not only because of techniques or parts usage, but because it is a work of art made with LEGO pieces. Ring-Rise by Tom Loftus (Inthert) is exactly that. A colourful painting. A cinematic shot with perfect framing. Just an astronaut and his cat, all alone on a monochrome alien world, looking out on the colourful rings of a planet. A simple idea, flawless execution.

Tom knew he wanted to incorporate the famous basalt columns of Iceland into a build. The Alien Landscape category of the yearly Space Jam contest was the perfect opportunity. Layering them in shades of grey (black to dark grey to light grey) give the impression of light coming in from the space-scape beyond. The planetary ring uses Simon Pickard’s intricate curving surface technique that few have mastered. Tom spiced it up by making it as colourful as he could, evoking the psychedelic hues of nebulae and other heavenly bodies.

This minifigure-scale First Order AT-M6 is a LEGO Star Wars beast that weighs in at more than 30 pounds

Since before he saw Star Wars: Episode VII – The Last Jedi, Rebel Builder had been wanting to create a First Order AT-M6 walker. The upgraded version of the classic AT-AT from The Empire Strikes Back was revealed to fans before the film’s release. Rebel Builder knew from the moment he saw it what his mission was. Of course, he had to wait to see the movie. And then he had to find as much source material as possible. He spent the next couple of years drawing on behind-the-scenes books, toy models, and theme park reference pics. In August of 2020, he began construction. The final result is a 33.5-inch tall, 31.2-pound model that dwarfs LEGO’s official Ultimate Collector Series 75313 AT-AT.

Automotive versus Arachnid

The wild ride that was Harry Potter’s experience at Hogwarts was surely extremely traumatic. Ron was obviously afraid of spiders but even Harry was jarred by this encounter from the Chamber of Secrets built by Stefan Johansson. The trusty, rusty Ford Anglia may have abandoned Harry and Ron after they crashed it into a tree but its loyalty never faded, as it proved by saving them from being eaten. Whether it has a mind of its own from Arthur Weasley’s tinkering or from all that time in the Forbidden Forest, it’s not going to let some giant creepy-crawlies munch on some kids.

A mysterious, graceful, and deadly figure emerges from the dark

When I saw this ominous figure by Djokson, I was struck by its haunting beauty, in contrast to a few stark details, like the large purple disc serving as the head which I believe is a Ninjago spinner, and the tall blade on its back from a Ninjago dragon wing. The long thin arms, one sporting a whip, and the longer legs ending in very dainty feet provide the grace, while the many transparent purple details along the side of the torso add a sinister vibe.

A little slice of Zeta Halo in the palm of your hand

It has been a while since the last Halo game, but The wait is over, with the release of Halo: Infinite, Master chief is back, and ready for action. TBB alumni Rod Gillies crafted a little slice of the massive and partially damaged ring which is the setting for the game in spectacular detail, with pine trees, rocky ground, one of the many alien artifiacts, and even the hexagonal structures that make up the ring below and around the surface. The scene by itself would be great, but miniature versions of four vehicles from both the Banished and the Space Marines are gravy on a very tasty dish.
