LEGO reveals 10303 Loop Coaster as next Fairground Collection set [News]

Today LEGO has revealed the next Fairground Collection set, 10303 Loop Coaster. With 3,756 pieces, this gigantic roller coaster includes the feature fans were clamoring for when LEGO released 10261 Roller Coaster in 2018: a full loop. In fact, the set has two of them, with the coaster’s riders lifted to the top of a 36-inch tall (92 cm) elevator tower then plummeting down a precipitous incline before going around two large loops. The set also includes 11 minifigures and can be motorized, though the motor elements are sold separately. It will retail for US $399.99 | CAN $499.99 | UK £344.99 when it’s available starting July 1.

Ride into the danger zone with this classic Top Gun LEGO fighter jet

Do you feel the need…the need for speed? Robert Lundmark has felt it by building this fantastic LEGO model of the F-14 Tomcat from the original Top Gun movie. Curved slope pieces are placed along the wings and around the cockpit, recreating the sleek look of the jet. The windscreens of the cockpit are formed from one large bubble canopy and two angled sections at either end. There is even a custom made “decal” on one of the wings, built out of bricks instead of using a sticker.

The wings can be folded out, which is a great option if you want to store the fighter away. It’s an awesome model that really captures the essence of the original design.

What? DEMOGORGON is evolving!

I will confess that I’ve never watched Stranger Things, but I do know of the rather scary demogorgon. Joss Woodyard (Jayfa) clearly thought it wasn’t scary enough, and has built this magnificent – albeit nightmare-inducing – demogorchild. To me it seems like the last in an evolution that you might see in games like Pokemon, with the demogorgon itself the starting point. Thankfully I’m too engrossed in the fascinating build to be terrified. The demogorgon minifigure heads do get a look in, albeit from the Botanical Collection rather than Stranger Things. Some of the dark green parts from that same set are used on the legs and shoulders as well, while white leaf elements make up the ribcage. I like how the feet and lower legs evoke the dirt and ground that a flower might take root in. Perhaps this creature disguises itself as a beautiful orchid and devours unsuspecting passers-by. OK, now I’ve gone back to giving myself nightmares…

DUPLO dots for days

This LEGO creation by R 194 for me really hits the nostalgia soft spot. The DUPLO I played with was handed down to me by friends of my parents whose kids were a bit older. So the 1994 cat head was part of my DUPLO collection. To me it is such an iconic DUPLO part. It’s from a time where the diversity of bricks was really limited. Including this vintage DUPLO beauty in a LEGO creation looks stunning. It is not the only DUPLO part that gets included. We can spot a roof spire, a red panda head and either Dots or DUPLO cupcake cups. We are looking at a motley crew of musicians and they are all cute as a button. The best thing about this creation is how R 194 created a third big animal head using regular LEGO bricks and it is amazing to see how good it matches the DUPLO heads.

Miles “Mosaic” Morales

The Brothers Brick contributor Chris Doyle has conspired with Alyse Middleton on another large-scale LEGO mosaic. Visiting the Spider-Verse, they created a mosaic tribute to Miles Morales.

If you’re like me (and I know I am), then you probably love the Into the Spider-Verse movie. Miles Morales quickly became my favorite take on the Spider-Man character, and I’d started (and abandoned) more than a few attempts to pay tribute to the character in LEGO form. Still, when I wanted to challenge myself and try a mosaic style that varied from the LEGO Art format I’d been working in, I decided Miles had to be the focus. Then I teamed up again with Alyse to make this new challenge a bit easier. Built on a 96×64 base of Technic brick, this images uses layers of plate and other elements to create an image in line with the animation style from the movie.

When the diner comes to you!

This lovely LEGO diner on wheels comes from the mind of builder 1saac W. Known for their signature scrambled eggs, Moe’s Mobile Diner saves you the trouble of traveling all the way to the diner. Instead, the diner comes to you with those classic curves and stylings of 1960’s diners. The teal blue of the lower section of the mobile diner hearkens to the old upholstery of those diners. The silver grille parts in the front are nice touches for that more chrome, shiny looks of the utensils. The counter space has lovely rounded edges where you can sit and have your eggs while you chat with Moe. The slope pieces framing the kitchen window are slick, and so are those stools in front. And can you spot the cool use of the silver minifig roller-skate acting as a door handle? I think Moe is on to something with his mobile diner.

Doctor Strange’s aperture science

This is a triumph! I’m making a note here, this Marvel-ous Dr. Strange LEGO build by Josh Parkinson is a huge success! Inspired by the superhero’s latest movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we see the wizened sorcerer about to hop into a portal to chase down impending (spoiler-free) doom. And what a portal it is! Adorned with twinkling lights, this mystical wormhole opens up to a lovely scene created using forced perspective. But there’s quite a bit of magic outside the portal, too. For instance, the shelves in the bookcase to the left aren’t actually being held in place by anything other than gravity. Each shelf sits on four tabs, each from this special 1×1 plate, much like your standard IKEA Billy bookcase. It’s such an interesting design hiding in plain sight.

Ancient Egyptian amphibian with hands for feet

Builder W Navarre has taken inspiration from the latest LEGO Architecture set and travelled to Egypt for his latest Iron Builder salvo. The centrepiece is a rather jolly-looking frog, cleverly using the bright green hand piece for the eye stalks. It also sees apples repurposed as big toes on the front legs. This little amphibian does go some way to deceive regarding the scale of the build though! The rest of the build gives slightly more clues, and is worth investigating in its own right as there are some great techniques on display. Much of the background is brick-built in microscale and blurred to add some forced perspective, even the water of the river Nile below. The best bit might just be the hieroglyphs on the frog’s plinth though! A mish-mash of parts, together with some gaps naturally created by the geometry of LEGO pieces, gives them a terrifically authentic weathered feel. Another of the seed part hands even makes an appearance, although it is well hidden – can you spot it?

The brick is mightier than the sword

Everyone knows LEGO’s late-90s Adventurers theme was based loosely on Indiana Jones, and this fantastic diorama by norlego drives home the point by doing some character swapping, putting Johnny Thunder and Baron von Baron into the iconic tank scene from The Last Crusade. The build is magnificent, with the massive Hatay Heavy Tank looking straight out of the movie (which, as norlego points out, was a custom design for the film, not a real-world tank). Let’s hope Johnny doesn’t get raked over the treads!

This Viking build tells its own story

Ross Fisher continues his LEGO Viking tale in his latest build, in which Viking raiders are repelled, leaving the survivors to take stock in the pouring rain. And let’s take a look at that rain; It’s rare to see the clear aerial used to such great effect as it is here, with the heavy rain adding an extra layer to both the landscape and emotion of the scene.

The minifigures are displayed under the shadow of a giant’s skull, adding a foreboding presence to the build. The giant’s helm is wonderfully constructed too, taking its shape from a hull piece that effortlessly presents the Viking-style helmet we’re all familiar with. The whole build is then presented on a hovercraft base, adding a nice display to this build.

I always enjoy seeing the inventive use of LEGO parts that Ross employs, and I’m looking forward to seeing where he takes this adventure next!

Attack of the corn-fist aliens!

I’m not sure which is funnier; the fact that this LEGO alien seems to be built using like a dozen Hulk fists or his head seems to be made from a corncob. Either way, Dan Ko is at it again with another entry for Iron Builder. This corny alien is chock full of hilarious personality. If you have been following Iron Builder or The Brothers Brick in general this is propably not even the weirdest thing you’ve seen today. That’s what we do; bring you the wild and weird so you don’t have to.
