MINDSTORMS NXT Rubik’s Cube solver by Hans Andersson

Hans Andersson’s Tilted Twister is a Rubik’s Cube solver built from only parts available in the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT retail set. Here’s what Hans says:

An ultrasonic sensor detects its presence and starts to read the colors of the cube faces using a light sensor. The robot turns and tilts the cube in order to read all the faces of the cube. It then calculates a solution and executes the moves by turning, tilting and twisting the cube.

PLUG members build LEGO underwater

Fernando Correia of TechnicBRICKs and his fellow PLUG members got together recently and did something that I believe has never been done before: They donned scuba or snorkel gear and built LEGO sets underwater. “Okay,” you say, “I did that once at my grandma’s place in Orlando.”

Fine, but did you build the set underwater while it was still in the bag?! Hmm? Hmm? Did you? I think not.

Only slightly less impressive is Fernando building 8418 Mini Loader with full scuba gear on — though not in the original polybag:

BBC DJs Adam and Joe are hosting a “Video Wars” contest in which listeners create music videos for a pair of silly songs by Adam and Joe.

YouTuber Mar Delgado has posted an intriguing trailer for a LEGO CGI movie he’s working on, inspired by the game God of War:

Very cool.

(And no, this isn’t an “official” trailer. Sadly, there will be no LEGO God of War after LEGO Batman. Nor Grand Theft LEGO.)

10188 Death Star revealed at Brickworld 2008 [News]

At the opening ceremony at Brickworld on Friday July 20th, the 10188 Death Star playset was officially announced and revealed by representatives of the LEGO group. The price will be $399.99 and there are 24 minifigs. I captured a video of the model, enjoy.

Now I want to build a Lego Boulder. If only I had 5 million bricks!

Ah-choo! I think I’ve caught the Town bug.

Whether it’s the World War Z diorama I’m working on or the fact that I just finished building the amazing 10185 Green Grocer (favorite LEGO set of the year so far), I have increasing interest in LEGO Town creations.

This means I’m spending a lot more time on Brick Town Talk, an excellent LEGO blog about City and Town creations. I spent a couple hours there recently looking for (and finding) inspiration for future projects.

Particularly inspiring is Tom Snellen‘s large layout. Here are the two wonderful buildings featured on Brick Town Talk:

Sir Nadroj’s Fabuland lolrus has a bukkit

Sir Nadroj has recently gotten into Fabuland, a range of LEGO sets from the late 1970’s through the 1980’s.

His latest creation includes a walrus, a beloved blue bucket, and, well, that’s all that really matters in life, isn’t it?

There’s a video showing how the boat rocks back and forth:

The Contortion

This is my first surrealist piece of the year and it marks the contortion of my mind for the past year and going. The sculpture itself is extremely fragile, but sturdy enough to survive a 5.2 earthquake. The bulk of the work is composed of four interweaving strands built from corner plates and supported at several critical points.
