Even if you’re not an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo gamer yourself, and even if you’ve never played one of the many LEGO games, it’s hard not to appreciate the strange and stunning LEGO creations inspired by video games. Look for lots of LEGO models inspired by Halo, the Legend of Zelda, Gears of War, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and more. Game on!

LEGO and Gameloft unveil new mobile minifigure game, LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed [News]

LEGO and Gameloft have unveiled a new mobile game, “LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed” which promises to bring together minifigures from the past 40 years of LEGO sets into a team-Battle RPG. The game will challenge players to collect classic and modern LEGO minifigures and sets in digital form, then create a team and engage in battles and adventures. The development team even visited the LEGO Vault in Billund, Denmark to research classic sets, minifigures and instructions to help them faithfully recreate them within the game.

“LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed” will be available this fall on Apple and Android devices, though Brickworld Chicago attendees will get an early preview next month. We’ve included the launch trailer and press release after the jump.

Life is 2 Strange

Inspired by the latest installment of the episodic video game Life is Strange 2, Revan New has built a scene featuring brothers Sean and Daniel (who is learning to control powerful telekinetic abilities) facing off against local law enforcement on a snow-covered rural area. I love the nicely constructed landscaping, including the thick snow covering the roof of the building. It’s also worth pointing out how the structure’s siding consists of plates and grooved tiles mounted sideways.

Battlefront II comes to life with epic playset

“For the Chancellor!” This creation features the best of the 2006 video game Star Wars: Battlefront II. Built by Sebeus I, the scene illustrates an incredible canyon cliff, complete with weathered surfaces. The various tan slope elements are my favorite part, but I also like the laser fire, particularly the accurate in-game colors. To me, this model is so well done it bridges the line between realism and video game experience.

An Assassin’s Creed

One of the things I enjoy about the LEGO community is seeing how certain people grow as builders. NS Brick Designs has created some fantastic models, but I loved looking at the comparison of his most recent Assassin’s Creed creation to the original built three years ago. His attention to detail has really come a long way.

The Assassin’s Creed game franchise is known for its wide ranging locations and times in history. While this scene isn’t based on one particular game, it captures the spirit of the series perfectly with one of the titular assassins on top of the building ready to leap down and take out the enemy. Various techniques are used here to create a wonderful look. The use of the gears and mechanical arms as decor give great detail to the building along with upside down ice cream cones and Battle Droid legs to create a nice treatment over the windows. The tree made from the 3 leaf pieces and in particular the bird made from a plume, minifigure hands and the base of a lever really caught my eye. I also like the use of the sideways profile bricks that make up the paved ground and the connected clips that lend a nice look to the stairway railing.

There is a lot to appreciate in this LEGO model, so be sure to take the time to take a closer look and be inspired.

Mario gets a BOOSTed makeover [Video]

Who needs virtual reality when you can actually touch the players? Enter LEGO BOOST, some extra bricks, and the imagination of Japanese builder Nipe Nipe. Using adorably crafted characters and interchangeable backgrounds, the classic video game is brought to life on a circular conveyor belt.

This perfectly thought-out game is actually playable via a Bluetooth connection with a phone or tablet. The programming of the system is simple, but comes out looking terrific while in action. With the tap of the screen, you can play the levels of Super Mario Bros in 3D. Like the real game, you have to get the timing just right to avoid those pesky obstacles!

Characters from Splatoon 2 make a big splat

Video games are a major source of inspiration for a number of LEGO builders, and while many focus on shooter games, some prefer titles that are more light-hearted. This trio of characters built by LEGO 7 manages to celebrate both by showcasing a team of characters from Splatoon 2, a colorful game available for the Nintendo Switch. Splatoon is a squad-based shooter that uses paint instead of more lethal ammunition.

Not only has LEGO 7 captured the distinct paint drip style for the characters’ hair and clothes, but each one is armed with a different paint-spewing arsenal. Each character stands on their own pillar, splattered in paint using a number of newer tiles to create some awesome coverage. These pillars are even covered with greebly details and stickers, enhancing each model’s overall appearance.

LEGO partners with NimbleBit to create the LEGO Tower mobile game [News]

Fans of NimbleBit’s popular mobile game Tiny Tower will soon have a chance to make their blocky, pixelated world out of LEGO. The new game, LEGO Tower, challenges you to build a skyscraper with apartments and businesses for your digital minifigures to live, work and play in with one huge elevator that connects them all. The game will be available starting this summer.

Interested tower builders can also visit LEGO Ideas on March 26th to find out how their creations can be featured in the new mobile game.

LEGO Build-a-Bulbasaur [Instructions]

Nintendo’s Pokemon series boasts a bestiary of over 800 colorful creatures, coming in all shapes and sizes. Even with such variety, there will always be fan favorites like Pikachu, Charmander, and Jigglypuff. Bulbasaur is another beloved pocket monster, and this LEGO version built by hachiroku24 is spot-on in terms of appearance and spirit. I’m particularly impressed by the expressiveness of Bulbasaur’s brick-built eyes. The model looks especially nice when placed alongside the little Pokeball, which was originally designed by Chris Maddison.

If you find yourself longing for your own LEGO Bulbasaur, you’re in luck! The builder has been kind enough to share a video illustrating how the model is pieced together.

Legend of Zelda’s Poe is hauntingly cool

Legend of Zelda fans are sure to enjoy this Poe Soul by Julius von Brunk. With its customary lantern and mischievous gaze, Hyrule’s favorite apparition looks no less troublesome recreated in LEGO-form. The outstretched hands and flowing, smoke-like base of this hooded wraith conveys a sense of movement, as if this Poe has been plucked straight from the TV screen. Poe’s torn hood is even represented here, and it features just the right amount of detail. While they might be one of the game’s more annoying enemies, this LEGO version of Poe is a delight to see.

Enormous Zorin from Walking War Robots in LEGO form stands nearly as tall as a person

If you have stayed up to date with The Brothers Brick the past few days, you may have noticed we have featured quite a lot of mecha recently. But if you thought you’d seen it all, I have news for you, because what we have here is the largest dose of mecha you have probably ever gotten in one go. Taking inspiration from the videogame Walking War Robots, iomedes! creates the most iconic mech available in the game in LEGO at a mind-boggling scale, standing nearly five feet tall at the tips of its guns.

All the conventional techniques and rules of mecha building go out the window at a scale like this. Joints which would mostly be a few pieces allowing for articulation and covered by a panel or two simply would not cut it in this creation and are rather replaced with complex brick-built domes and arches. A laser axe for felling enemies, not space trees

If you have been following the Brothers Brick for a while, you are probably familiar with the figure-building madman known as Eero Okkonen, who is known to often produce his masterful figure builds on a weekly basis or faster. This time Eero brings us a creation that he built a while back, but only recently shared online. It is a part of a series of Japanese video-game inspired characters we have been following on the Brothers Brick for a while now.

The build is faithful to the series, using the striking colour scheme and Clickits strings as laser blades on the amazing space axe. On the other hand, it is unique and a clear improvement on previous installments. There are so many exotic pieces used in unique ways that I can not even begin to cover, but what stands out most is the wildly flowing hair made of balloon panels in earth orange.

Horizon Zero Dawn’s Watcher is no less fearsome recreated in LEGO

When Sony released Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn for Playstation 4 back in 2017, I knew right away it was going to inspire some awesome LEGO creations based on the terrifying dinosaur-like robots which serve as the game’s main focus. Accomplished German builder Marius Herrmann was quick to take the challenge with his spectacular Shell-Walker, Corruptor and Thunderjaw. Once again Marius does not disappoint with his latest addition to the Zero Dawn line up, the Watcher recon unit.

It may be puny compared to other machines in the game, but don’t be fooled. The Watcher can be a ferocious opponent, especially in numbers. Marius brings the Watcher to life with some great techniques and clever parts usage (such as the roller skates used to add a little extra texture to the tail). Those glowing eyes are perfectly creepy, too. Considering Marius’ successful endeavor to build every Titanfall 2 mech, I’m keeping my fingers crossed he’ll bring us even more from the Zero Dawn universe.
