Del Boy and Rodney ride in style. Well, sort of.

Speaking of references to British popular culture that I’m not familiar with, Ronald Vallenduuk (Duq) has posted a great entry for the LUGNuts Sympathy for the underdog challenge inspired by the BBC comedy Only Fools and Horses.

The source of inspiration may not be a particularly stylish vehicle, but Rondald’s LEGO rendition of the three-wheeled Reliant Regal Supervan is very cool indeed.

More Preliminary 2009 Set Pictures (Indy and Clone Wars) [News]

lokosuperfluoLEGOman has updated the folder with more pictures of 2009 LEGO sets, including Star Wars: Clone Wars and Indiana Jones. Please keep in mind that these are all preliminary pictures and are almost certainly subject to change, therefore the use of old pieces in new figures (such as Patrick the starfish’s torso used for the brute in the Flying Wing set and the Imperial Guard torso used for Willie) will probably change. Also note that the Flying Wing preliminary set art includes a Swastika, something The LEGO Company will certainly not use in the final box art. Note that the pictures seen here are from corran11’s photostream on Flickr, because some images are cropped and rotated for easier viewing.

Mean Green Mother from Outer Space

Nathan Proudlove has grown -I mean built- his own mutant man-eating plant, Audrey II (from Little Shop of Horrors, entirely out of Bionicle pieces. Incredibly, this is Nathan’s first Bionicle creation. Nathan was inspired after listening to an interview of Bryce McGlone, who was recently featured on LAML.

Mike Psiaki (who is no stranger to being blogged) has built a climatic scene from The Lost World: Jurassic Park that is better than the movie it was based upon!

To be perfectly honest, I’ve enjoyed the design aesthetic of the new Battlestar Galactica more lately than the story lines. Oh well. So when Bram Lambrecht combined the Cylon Raider with little plastic bricks from Denmark in 3vil livery, I was rather pleased:

Nickelodeon and LEGO are teaming up to host the “Built by Me” LEGO movie contest as part of the Nicktoons Network Animation Festival.

For your 2-minute (or less) movie animated with LEGO, you could win up to $25,000. w00t! Although Nicktoons is a kids’ network, I’ve taken a look at the rules, and the contest seems open to everybody.

We’ll pick our favorite to be shown live at the Nicktoons Network Animation Festival in Los Angeles in October, and play it on www.nicktoonsnetwork.com/nnaf and LEGOclub.com. Plus, the Grand Prize winner will receive $25,000 to create an all-new animation for Nicktoons Network!

GRAND PRIZE: The “Built By Me” Movie Award!
The Grand Prize winning animation will be showcased at the Nicktoons Network Animation Festival and online. The winner will also receive $25,000 (twenty-five thousand dollars) to create a brand-new original animated short for Nicktoons Network using LEGO bricks and minifigures!

CONTEST DETAILS
Create an original animated short 2 minutes long or less and send it to us. Entries must be submitted between July 15 and September 15 2008. All shorts must feature LEGO bricks, and you must own the rights to any music, sound and dialogue featured in your video.

Contest is open to all ages. There are 2 categories: 17 and under, and 18 and older.

To enter the “Built By Me” Movie Contest you’ll need to download and complete the Entry Form and send it along with your animation.

M274 Mongoose ATV from Halo by Vidgamer838

The flood of LEGO Halo creations is so overwhelming that I can make that pun without ever having played the game. Still, this Mongoose ATV and custom UNSC Marine by Vidgamer838 seemed too good to pass up:

Jordan’s Hellboy is the ultimate custom LEGO minifig

With a modified head piece and sideburns from Arealight, decals from Jared “Kaminoan” Burks, and a megagun from the newly relaunched BrickForge, this Hellboy minifig by Jordan Schwartz brings together elements from several LEGO customizers to create the ultimate custom minifig:

Sjaak Alvarez makes life difficult for the Empire

Sjaak Alvarez recently posted a third installment in his ongoing series “It’s hard to be a Stormtrooper”.

Watch for the hilarious cameo at the end:

Sjaak animates each of his videos himself, using 3ds max 2009 and final Render 2.0. Very cool.

LEGO Wall-E roundup #2

Even though Pixar’s Wall-E didn’t dominate the box office this past weekend, our lovable robotic hero continues to dominate the hearts and imaginations of LEGO builders.

First up, Wall-E Directing Animator Angus MacLane adds to his collection of LEGO Wall-E models at three different scales. Here’s a mini Wall-E:

Angus’s micro Wall-E has a two-brick cooler, while his nanoscale Wall-E is accompanied by a nanoscale Eve:
