LEGO BrickHeadz 40274 Mr. and Mrs. Claus [Review]

With the current amount of seasonal LEGO sets, it’s absolutely impossible not to add a LEGO model to your holiday home decorations. And when the trendy BrickHeadz figures meet the holidays, some of the sweetest and most adorable sets are born. LEGO BrickHeadz 40274 Mr. & Mrs. Claus is the fifth seasonal BrickHeadz set, and the only double-pack of the sub-theme. The set consists of 341 pieces, which makes it the third largest LEGO BrickHeadz set so far. This is possible thanks to a ton of decorations that the figures come with, but let’s take a closer look at the designs of Mr. and Mrs. Claus themselves as well…

Exclusive limited edition LEGO Overwatch 75987 Omnic Bastion set announced, available now [News]

Blizzard Entertainment, the studio behind multiplayer first-person shooter game Overwatch, unveiled an exclusive, limited edition LEGO Omnic Bastion building set today, available for purchase online in the Blizzard Gear Store and later on-site at BlizzCon 2018 on November 2 and 3, 2018, in Anaheim, California.

Bastion is a hero in Overwatch with two modes: Recon, and Sentry. The Omnic skin reflects the appearance of Bastion units during the Omnic Crisis, and is not the default tan and green skin Overwatch players begin with in game. The set also includes Bastion’s bird companion, Ganymede, which can be perched atop Bastion’s shoulder plate. LEGO 75987 Omnic Bastion retails for $25 USD and is available now in the Blizzard Gear Store online.

LEGO 5005254 Harry Potter Bricktober 2018 Minifigure Exclusive [Review]

Every October since 2009, Toys R Us sold exclusive LEGO sets, issued throughout the month. This year, in some parts of Asia where Toys R Us (TRU) stores are still open, the “Bricktober” offerings remain available, but due to TRU closing in the US, American LEGO collectors have been left wondering where these may show up instead. This particular set of four Harry Potter minifigures are available to our Stateside readers at Barnes and Noble.

We got our hands on these from Toys R Us in Asia. Let’s take a closer look at the four exclusive minifigure characters for the 2nd week of “Bricktober.”

UK-based LEGO-building business Bright Bricks bought for £8.5m [News]

Last weekend saw Live Company Group, owner and operator of BRICKLIVE exhibitions, announce their acquisition of Bright Bricks, the UK-based LEGO-building business, in a deal worth £8.5m {$11.1m). This is a significant investment in the business of LEGO shows, and highlights Live Group’s ambitions for their BRICKLIVE brand of events and touring exhibits. They have previously stated their aims of expanding and increasing the number of BRICKLIVE shows across the world, with a particular emphasis on Asia and the US.

You can read the press release about the announcement here, but we wanted to know more. We spoke with Ed Diment, one of the directors of Bright Bricks, to find out more about the deal, the ambitions of the new business, and what this might mean for the world of LEGO shows.

LEGO Star Wars 75251 Darth Vader’s Castle is unveiled [News]

Most LEGO Star Wars sets are naturally starships and various vehicles for transportation to the many planets of the galaxy, so every building or other structure released by LEGO sparks many fans’ interest. This time, the galaxy’s greatest villain, Darth Vader, welcomes everyone to his formidable castle on the planet Mustafar, as seen in Rogue One. The new LEGO Star Wars 75251 Darth Vader’s Castle, which will be available exclusively at Amazon.com during the upcoming holiday season, features a massive-looking castle built with nearly a 1,000 pieces.

The castle’s hangar houses a copy of the Dark Lord of the Sith’s iconic TIE Advanced starfighter, while the castle itself is populated with Darth Vader in his usual black armor, a second Darth Vader (as seen in his bacta tank), two Royal Guards, an Imperial Transport Pilot, and even a mouse droid.

Darth Vader’s Castle has multiple rooms, featuring several play scenarios such as Vader’s recovery in the bacta tank, communing with the Dark Side of the Force in his meditation chamber, and a landing platform at the very top of the castle.

LEGO Star Wars 75251 Darth Vader’s Castle set will retail $129.99 US and pre-orders start October 4, 2018.

LEGO Shop@Home has started taking reservations as well. The item will be shipped on 1st December if preordered now.

LEGO Overwatch building set teaser reveals Tracer minifigure [News]

A brief video teaser featuring the Blizzard’s Overwatch game’s lead designer, Jeff Kaplan, assembling a LEGO Tracer minifigure has just been published via the developer’s official social media channels. This appears to be the first official look at the upcoming LEGO Overwatch sets since Activision-Blizzard’s announcement of the licensing back in May. Unfortunately, no official release date has been given yet, but we can’t wait to see all the new LEGO sets! Edit: The new Overwatch sets are available for pre-order, shipping January 1.

LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz: 41627 Luke Skywalker and Yoda, 41628 Princess Leia, and 41629 Boba Fett [Review]

Back in late 2017, before LEGO released any BrickHeadz characters from the Star Wars Classic Trilogy, we reviewed the New York Comic-Con exclusive Boba Fett & Han Solo in Carbonite. I excoriated LEGO for creating artificial scarcity in what would inevitably be an incredibly popular set. That set is now selling for at least $200 on eBay, but there’s good news: LEGO has now released another wave of Star Wars BrickHeadz characters, this time including Boba Fett (41629), Princess Leia (41628), and Luke Skywalker & Yoda (41627).

Your guide to the 12 new LEGO sets for October 2018, including Star Wars, BrickHeadz and more [News]

Fall has arrived, and along with it a small wave of twelve new LEGO sets. Star Wars gets the prime treatment with some holiday flair for good measure. This wave is smaller than the 58 new sets from late summer we posted about before, but we have your guide right here to each and every new set as we head into the pre-holiday season.

Along with the new sets, LEGO has a gift with purchase for Star Wars fans: an exclusive Han Solo Mudtrooper minifigure. To get him, you have to spend more than $35 on LEGO Star Wars sets. The promotion runs through the 14th or while supplies last.

Just 1 week to BrickCon 2018 [News]

There’s just 1 week left to one of our favorite LEGO conventions, BrickCon. Located in the heart of the Northwest at the foot of Seattle’s famous Space Needle in the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, the event is open to the public Oct. 6-7. You can get your tickets here. Last year tickets sold out, so if you plan on going we recommend not delaying any longer.

If you’re an adult builder who would like to attend the full, 4-day convention (which starts Thursday) with panels, prizes, and more, online registration has closed but you can still register at the door.
