LEGO interviews employees and fans about inclusion and diversity [News]

With the release of the Everyone is Awesome set just in time for Pride Month, inclusion and diversity has become the spotlight everywhere, including at The LEGO Group. The company today has published a series of interviews with employees and fans, talking about how LEGO brings people together as well as inspiring creativity. The interviews are with the members of LGBTQIA+ community, including one of TBB’s own writers, Bre. The interviews focus on what being in an AFOL LGBTQIA+ community means to them, what companies can do to support the community, how they use creativity to express themselves, and what Pride Month means to them.

Sailing the open “C”

Ralf Langer is on a roll. Using a technique he’s employed previously in some sci-fi builds, Ralf has created a gorgeous display piece worthy of a shelf in any captain’s quarters. And, while the shape of the build is bound to monopolize your attention, there are some smaller details here that are worthy of a second look. I particularly like the way he’s used color beneath the transparent light blue tiles. The ocean gets darker the further out from the land masses you go, creating a sense of ever deepening water. Summer 2021 LEGO Star Wars sets feature scenes & characters from The Clone Wars [News]

LEGO just revealed two Star Wars sets featuring scenes from The Clone Wars animated series. The sets will be available on August 1st 2021. The larger set features a Mandalorian Starfighter while the smaller scene features a throne room duel between Ahsoka and Darth Maul.

Classic Star Wars poster comes to life

This creation by Rui Miguel pays tribute to classic Star Wars movie posters. It’s unusual to see Vader in blue but this does allow for his helmet to be viewed in greater detail. The haunting eyes of Vader have been created with black armour pieces. As the helmet seeps into an interstellar cloud, you can see older flower pieces used to represent twinkling stars. Luke and Leia strike some cool poses, their noses are actually hinge pieces and Leia has some nice curved elements in her skirt, providing it with a swaying motion. Throughout this build there is a nice application of bright colours which really brings out the details of the display.

Witch’s Windship gets an update

To answer Librarian-Bot’s question: Yes, you are not alone. Everyone has at least one set they ogled in the LEGO catalog but never managed to get a hold of. For me it is the Hogwarts Castle (2nd edition) and the Sphinx Secret Surprise. For Librarian-Bot this is the Witch’s Windship. To fill in the gap of missing out on this specific set they recreated it. The model features a brick build dragon which strongly resembles the classic dragon from the 90’s. The witch’s windship has gotten a serious update without losing it’s original charm. Since the dragon is a bit bigger the windship can be a bit bigger too. It still looks like the dragon is able to carry it. It is nice to see the CMF shield with a bat pictured on it used to represent the classic fright knight shield. What set’s do you regret not getting?

My birthday falls in May and this year was particularly special thanks to my good friend Michael, who asked me what I wanted for my birthday. We’ve taken to crafting each other’s gifts lately and he recently started building BrickHeadz as Capn Brickard on Instagram. With this in mind, I thought it would be awesome to have BrickHeadz for one of my favorite science fiction series, Stargate: SG-1. He gladly accepted the task and I eagerly awaited the results. So, in addition to becoming a contributor for The Brothers Brick in May, I was gifted these designs that I immediately wanted to share with TBB’s readers! Since they’re particularly special to me and I know the builder personally and could get some behind-the-scenes info, I want to go into a little more detail than our typical articles. Plus I want to geek out about Stargate a little, if you’ll indulge me.

This boisterous beast shows off some spiky details

This beast looks ready to pounce! Joss Woodyard has created a cheeky-looking creature that sports an interesting colour scheme. Throughout the design, dark red is contrasted with azure blue providing the model with an eye-catching appearance. Spiky armour parts make up the mane and the protruding jaw has only been used in one Ninjago set so far. Exo force arms form its stomach and also hold unicorn drills, adding to the model’s prickly aesthetic. It is easy to imagine this creature in a fantasy setting, bouncing around and causing mayhem.

Inspiring colorful creativity with LEGO Creator 3-in-1 31122 Fish Tank [Review]

The summer wave of LEGO sets are turning out to be a big hit, including this round of Creator 3-in-1’s. So far we’ve covered two others in the series, and now we turn our attention to the most colorful of the bunch, LEGO Creator 3-in-1 31122 Fish Tank. The set contains 352 pieces and features not only instructions to build a fish tank, but also those for an art easel with macaw painting and a treasure chest with accessories. It was just launched on June 1st in Europe and will be available August 1st in North America priced at US $29.99 | CAN $39.99 | UK £24.99. This Once-ler House LEGO creation is a whimsical homage to Dr. Seuss

Inspired by the 2012 film adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, this LEGO creation by Pieter Dennison is a whimsical homage. Right away we’re drawn to the top of the Once-ler House with expertly placed shingles; they’re made from complementary colors and placed in a way to give it a slightly off-kilter, dilapidated effect. The choice to use a more muted green for the base works and brown Technic axle connectors for the tree stumps works well for this build.

First LEGO set from Marvel Studios “What If...?” revealed; 76194 Tony Stark’s Sakaarian Iron Man [News]

Thanks to Amazon, we’re getting a look at the first set based on Marvel’s upcoming alternate-universe animated show What If…? that’s set to air on Disney+ starting in August. 76194 Tony Stark’s Sakaarin Iron Man features a strange version of what appears to be the Hulkbuster armor cobbled together from Sakaarian scrap. Sakaar is the junk planet that Thor, Loki, and Hulk were stranded on in Thor: Ragnarok. The 369-piece set includes Valkyrie and The Watcher, along with Tony Stark sporting an alternate-universe Metallica shirt with an easter-egg throwback for fans of classic LEGO themes such as Exploriens. There’s no word yet on the specific release date or price.

I’ll build my own LEGO Bender! With blackjack and hookers!

Futurama? In LEGO? Shut up and take my money! LEGOfolk built everyone’s favourite potty-mouth robot, Bender Bending Rodríguez! The simple and elegant grey build perfectly conveys Bender’s physique along with iconic, instantly recognisable head. In other words, LEGOfolk really nailed Bender’s “shiny metal ass!” But my favourite aspect is how Doc Ock’s new tentacles in the Daily Bugle set inspired the arms and legs. Such a simple combination of LEGO elements really allow for great poseability! I certainly can see this technique becoming the norm for appendages of this style!

LEGO 10289 Bird of Paradise designer Chris McVeigh talks about his design [News]

LEGO’s new Bird of Paradise set, designed by Chris McVeigh (also known as powerpig) is part of LEGO’s Botanical Collection subtheme. When compared to the other two sets in this theme, Flower Bouquet and Bonsai Tree, Bird of Paradise is the largest with 1,173 pieces and retails for US $99.99 | CAN $139.99 | UK £89.99.
