LEGO recently introduced a new sub-theme to the BrickHeadz line, Pets, and so far, there have been 4 sets released… A German Shepherd and puppy, A budgie and chick, and a pair of goldfish. Today we’re taking a look at the shorthair cat (number 120) and kitten (121), and they are available on lego.com and LEGO retail stores for $14.99 US (CAN $19.99 | UK £13.49),

The box and packaging
The front of the box shows the cat and kitten facing each other, while the back of the box shows them side by side in their cat bed, as well as the other set in this first wave, 40440, German Shepherd and puppy.
The box includes 4 un-numbered bags of various sizes, an instruction booklet, and a sticker sheet with two alternates for the front of the pet bed.
Like basically any BrickHeadz set, there are plenty of bricks with studs on the side, including a few of the 1×1 bricks with studs on two sides, which come in light blueish gray. There are also several claw parts used for the whiskers and some angled bow sloped in dark gray.
The build
Starting with the adult cat, we notice right away that the back legs are built on hinges, just like the German Shepherd set, which gives the finished cat a bit of pose-ability. The front legs are built using inverted slopes that give the front legs a leaning look like she’s ready to pounce.
The head includes the typical pink brick at the center, scruffy cheeks made with cheese slopes, a cute yellow collar, and pointy ears.
Moving on to the kitten, which is built on a smaller base, similar to BrickHeadz buddy sets, but with a slightly offset pair of slopes for the back legs. The head is a fairly typical stack of SNOT bricks (Studs not on top) and includes a matching set of pointed ears.
Finally, we get to the bed, which includes two stickers, and just enough room for the two cuddly cats to sit side-by-side.
The finished build
In the end, we have two very cute and well-detailed cats, with poseable tails, pointy ears, cute pink noses, and whiskers. They fit snugly in their cat bed or can be arranged any way you like.
Conclusion and recommendations
It seems that LEGO is investing in this sub-theme, with four pairs of pets released already, but considering how specific the look of these first two pets is, I wonder if LEGO plans to further develop the theme to include more customization options.
As for recommendations, this set would make a great addition to any BrickHeadz collection, and as usual, it’s hard to beat the $14.99 price tag for some super-useful parts. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing what other pet pairs LEGO comes up with.
