TBB Weekly Brick Report: LEGO news roundup for April 29, 2018 [News]

In addition to the amazing LEGO models created by builders all over the world, The Brothers Brick brings you the best of LEGO news and reviews. This is our weekly Brick Report for the final week of April 2018.

TBB NEWS: It’s a week of summer fun for LEGO fans, with not one but two brand new roller coaster sets revealed, along with several other new sets such as the long-awaited City Hospital and an outdoor-themed people pack.

LEGO Creator Expert 10261 Roller Coaster announced – Here’s the set we’ve been waiting for since we first saw LEGO’s new roller coaster system in the Joker Manor. With over 4,000 pieces and 10 minifigures, this is one we’re eager to review.
LEGO Creator 31084 Pirate Rollercoaster revealed – If the Creator Expert Roller Coaster isn’t enough, check out this smaller pirate-themed track.
LEGO City 60204 Hospital first look – It’s been a long time since the last LEGO City hospital, but it looks like it’s been worth the wait. With a full dozen minifigures, this set has LEGO City fans abuzz.
LEGO mammoth from 60195 Arctic Mobile Exploration Base – Last week we got a look at all the new Arctic sets from LEGO City, but with some new photos we’re able to take a closer look at one of the coolest new creatures: the wooly mammoth.
LEGO City 60202 People Pack – Outdoor Adventures revealed – It’s summertime, and LEGO City is ready to get outdoors with this new minifigure pack consisting of 15 characters (including a baby) participating in a variety of wilderness activities. From camping to kayaking, there’s plenty going on here.
LEGO Ninjago 70657 NINJAGO City Docks revealed – We’re getting out first look at Ninjago’s second largest set ever. This expansion to Ninjago City adds docks, apartments, and more, all built with what looks like the same details we loved in Ninjago City.

TBB REVIEWS: We close out our reviews of the new LEGO Star Wars sets from Solo: A Star Wars Story and look ahead to Star Wars Day on May 4th.

LEGO Star Wars 40288 BB-8 review & mod instructions – The popular spherical droid BB-8 is the special guest at this year’s May the Fourth celebrations, with the small set being given away with qualifying purchases. LEGO Star Wars 40288 BB-8 May the Fourth free promo set [Review and Mod Instructions]

May the Fourth or “Star Wars Day” is right around the corner, and LEGO has sent us an early copy of the free promotional set, 40288 BB-8. The set will be available May 4th through 6th (or until supplies run out) with LEGO Star Wars purchases over $75. We’ll bring you more details on the May the Fourth sales and deals later this week, so check back soon for more updates.

This buildable character joins the large-scale 75187 BB-8 released in 2017, and is about the same size as last year’s buildable R2-D2, so let’s dig in and see how this new droid compares.

LEGO Star Wars 75211 Imperial TIE Fighter from Solo: A Star Wars Story [Review]

From 7146 TIE Fighter back in 2001 through 75101 First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter in 2015, the iconic Imperial starfighter has evolved significantly. The latest incarnation in nearly two decades is 75211 Imperial TIE Fighter released to support the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story in May. This latest TIE Fighter set includes 519 pieces and 4 minifigs, and retails for $69.99.

Let’s dig in to find out how this latest TIE stacks up against its predecessors — the 2015 LEGO TIE Fighter from The Force Awakens in particular. Minifigures may reveal SPOILERS ahead of the movie’s release, so you’ve been warned!

Closer look at the LEGO mammoth in LEGO City 60195 Arctic Mobile Exploration Base [News]

The summer 2018 LEGO City sets revealed last week feature an exploration team unearthing extinct Pleistocene megafauna like mammoths and saber-toothed cats, preserved in arctic ice. The largest set in the summer wave of City sets, the mobile base has four sections that can be connected, including a trailer for hauling the unfrozen mammoth back to the lab for research.

There’s been a lot of excitement among our readers about this upcoming series of LEGO sets, and we’ll be sure to bring you all the details about them as they emerge. In the meantime, enjoy this closer look at the set and its star proboscidean.

LEGO BrickHeadz 41611 Marty McFly and Doc Emmett Brown from Back to the Future [Review]

Back To The Future has been a favourite franchise for a generation, but has not had any new movies in nearly 30 years. And yet, the iconic 1980’s trilogy continues getting revivals in every way possible, including as LEGO sets. We first saw it as an Ideas set (back when the line was known as Cuusoo) with 21103 DeLorean Time Machine, and then another revival of the theme in various LEGO Dimension add-ons, including Doc Emmet Brown Fun Pack and the Back to the Future Level Pack featuring Marty McFly. We now have them come together for the first time as LEGO BrickHeadz with the 41611 Marty McFly and Doc Emmett Brown two-pack.

LEGO unveils massive 10261 Creator Expert Roller Coaster [News]

Today LEGO unveiled the massive and heavily-rumored 10261 Creator Expert Roller Coaster. Clocking in at 4,124 pieces, the set includes 11 minifigures, new red track, and a functioning chain-lift. The huge set will retail for $379.99 USD beginning May 16 for LEGO VIPs followed by general availability on June 1.

LEGO City 60204 Hospital revealed [News]

This year the LEGO City is getting a new hospital building — a gorgeous 60204 Hospital set. A long-rumored set has been finally revealed today. Let’s have a closer look at the new medical center opened for the citizens of the LEGO city.

LEGO City 60202 People Pack – Outdoor Adventures revealed [News]

People packs are meant to complement City sets to add more life and scenes with characters and activities. The first 60134 Fun in the Park – City People Pack released in 2016 was quite a hit with the introduction of a long-awaited baby minifigure, and last year’s version, Fun at the Beach, featured lots of beach activities. This year’s pack, 60202 People Pack – Outdoor Adventures, features a new set of minifigures doing everyday things with an outdoor adventure theme, such as camping, hiking, and rafting. There are a few new interesting elements to watch out for including a baby carrier and a bald eagle. Consisting of 164 parts, we’re expecting it to cost $39.99 USD, as the previous version did.

LEGO Ninjago 70657 NINJAGO City Docks revealed [News]

The success of the last year’s LEGO NinjaGo 70620 NINJAGO City exclusive set has proved that LEGO fans – both young and adult – are ready for huge and elaborate LEGO sets expanding the boundaries of the regular line-ups. Even though The LEGO Ninjago Movie premiered last September, the second direct-to-consumer set is just to be released this Summer. LEGO Ninjago 70657 NINJAGO City Docks has been recently listed in certain online stores, and now we’re having the first look at the next addition to the amazing City of Ninjago. unfortunately, there’s still no information about the pieces count or the price of the set, but we expect it to be around $250/250€.

LEGO Creator 31084 Pirate Rollercoaster first official pictures [News]

Roller coasters are the craze of the season. While we are holding breath until the release of the new rumoured giant roller coaster Creator exclusive set, pictures of the one of the highlights of the Summer wave of Creator sets are already here. The new 31084 Pirate Rollercoaster is a very nice-looking addition to the Creator Fair sub-theme and it seems to have just the right vibes to be well-received by Pirate fans.
