LEGO reveals new LEGO Icons 10338 Transformers Bumblebee set [News]

Coming in July, LEGO brings us a fresh release for the Transformers theme: LEGO Icons Transformers 10338 Bumblebee. It’s been two years since we got LEGO Transformers 10302 Optimus Prime, and keeping with the same scale, we now have a new protector of Earth to keep the Decepticons at bay. Maintaining the same functionality as the previous Transformers release, Bumblebee will be able to transition between bot and vehicle modes without requiring a rebuild each time. This 950-piece set will be available for US $89.99 | CAN $TBD | UK £89.99 from July 4th, with LEGO Insiders getting early access from July 1st.

Thriving LEGO plants and no water needed

LEGO builder Loïc Gilbert has created “Solarium,” where the plants take center stage in this creation. Hues of pink, purple, yellow, and bright green tell of a healthy greenhouse. Adding to the unique features of all this foliage, we see swords, hats, and even a hairpiece put to good use. Another highlight is the floor, which features a patterned carpet crafted from LEGO “cheese slopes”, adding further intricacy to the overall design. These plants would fit perfectly alongside LEGO Icons Botanical Collection 10329 Tiny Plants for sure!

Lamborghini Countach, a dream car for a dream garage

In 2022 LEGO released their first official Lamborghini Countach, the LEGO Speed Champions 76908 Lamborghini Countach. Builder George Panteleon (who also goes by “ZetoVince”) brings us a larger-scale version of the same Lamborghini model. Taking inspiration from the official LEGO set’s headlight design and using some newly released elements, he was able to bring a build from the top of his wanted list to life.

Along with the overall iconic appeal of this car, he also brings to life the scissor doors, opening engine bay, and front trunk or “frunk”.

Summer is upon us, and what better way to spend time cooling off than by building a LEGO set in the comfort of your home? This month, we see a continued resurgence of the much-loved Icons theme with the release of The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr and some highly anticipated new dinosaur molds from the Jurassic World theme like 76966 Dinosaur Missions: Allosaurus Transport Truck. Incredible cars can be small as well.

Let’s be cheesy for a moment and call this LEGO build “Incredible.” The cheesy factor is amplified if you know your Disney facts and recognize this car as the one driven by Mr. Incredible, also known simply as “The Incredibile.” Builder SFH_Bricks designed and built this superhero vehicle for the 20th anniversary of the Disney Pixar movie The Incredibles. Built from only 362 pieces, it fits two minifigures and features some of the iconic details seen in the animated film. This model is a joy to behold and a fun trip down memory lane for those of us who were kids, or at least kids at heart, when this film was released.

If only this were an official LEGO set — which it is not — this would make a great addition to the collection of any Disney Pixar fan, who could previously only acquire a similar build officially from LEGO Juniors set 10760.

Miniature magic inspired by Disney Parks.

LEGO mini builds can surprisingly hold a great deal of detail in such a small package. Gregory Coquelz has created a series of mini-builds based on Disney theme park attractions. Here, we see the “Swiss Family Robinson” treehouse. Despite its minimal size, we can still appreciate the arboreal dwelling with its multiple structures, elaborate path, and a water wheel that I’m sure helps the family with everyday activities. As a frequent LEGO builder myself, I wonder if Gregory dealt with any ‘broken branches’ during this build, considering the amount of Dark Brown pieces used in the build. Surely this would look great next to LEGO’s current line of miniature Disney products, especially LEGO 40478: Mini Disney Castle.

Find coastal serenity at the Black Falcon’s chapel

TBB regular Andreas Lenander shares with us what appears to be a continuation of his LEGO Black Falcons seafaring creation. Titled “Falcon Chapel,” it depicts what seems to be an island with a coastal structure. Rockwork in the foreground, a sand trail, and coastal greenery (utilizing barrels for the trunks of the palm trees) draw as much attention as the white stone building. This structure’s brilliant color would serve as the focal point of the build, were it not for the flowering vines growing on the side of the chapel and the multicolored roof. It gives the scene a weathered look, bring realism to the building. I assume the lantern-bearer at the edge of the small wooden dock is patiently awaiting the visitors from Andreas’s prior build.

Bridging the Gap

Lego castle builds always seem to tell a story at just one glance, or perhaps it’s simply my overactive imagination. Lego builder Taylor has titled this one “Unexpected Visitors”, giving us a starting point to envision the scenario presented here. Is the visitor the king and his personal guard? Or do we see a herald on an important mission delivering a message? The bridge in this scene could tell a story on its own, but the inclusion of the minifigures deepens that narrative to another level. The façade of the bridge conveys both its age and strength while the rockwork and plants create the impression of the bridge connecting two mountains. What do you see? The start of a battle? The start of an alliance between factions?

A modular slice of Cyberpunk

Although only one facet of a larger collaborative build, Bart Marable’s first foray into LEGO cyberpunk provides much of the requisite detail to identify it’s overall theme. While most modular buildings have such a great facade, we are left wanting when viewing the sides and backs of the building. Bart, in a relatively small build, has provided 360-degree detail with images to prove his effort.

Let’s call the ‘Fan-side’ the facade. The use of both vivid and understated colors creates a facade that seems to have evolved and been enhanced over time fulfilling the goal of portraying a cyberpunk realm, in my opinion.

Black Falcons are on the move

LEGO ships come in various shapes and sizes and are captained by different factions. Builder Andreas Lenander transports us to a scene where the Black Falcons are embarking on an adventure. The builder shows off with the construction and placement of the sails, as I’m sure those things weigh quite a bit. Undoubtedly this portion of the build presented a challenging task as well as a unique approach to a frequently visited part of a ship build. Brick-built sails are not unique, but the approach here diverges from the often-seen use of borrowed capes and other fabrics and provides depth and volume to the overall build. Although the sails are great, a closer look at each shipmate intrigues me as I try to determine where the hairpiece was borrowed. I see a couple of familiar options- Ariel? Leia? Finally, the water caught my attention. Although the approach is simple, it almost seems obvious now. I don’t know if this builder utilized a groundbreaking approach to depicting water via LEGO bricks, but I sure enjoyed seeing it for the first time here.

Sculpting Legends: Inside the Fantasy World of ‘Guilds of Historica’

Builder Mathijs Dubbeldam gives us a glimpse into the LEGO medieval fantasy world created by Eurobricks, known as ‘Guilds of Historica’. The build, titled ‘Sculptor’, is presented with a prompt, “. . . a large order from the King. His majesty wants an enormous statue . . .” inviting us to delve deeper into the layout and characters within the scene. Despite the prompt, the concept of a sculptor diligently working to unveil a statue of significance is readily apparent. Additionally, the presence of a green-skinned character immediately indicates that this is no ordinary medieval scene, but likely one from a fantastical world.

In the second image, a close-up reveals how the rockwork, or brickwork, as it were, has been carefully designed and thought out, offering us a glimpse into the ongoing formation of a legendary dwarf warrior. The ‘messy’ hair on the sculptor gives the impression this artist has been hard at work with no rest. I imagine his hands – do we call them hands for LEGO minifigures? – are calloused from his past and current sculpting endeavors.

The adorable deception of Tyler’s Bubble Dragon

LEGO Masters builder, and half of the winning team for the show’s debut season, Tyler Clites presents us with quite the adorable fellow in his Bubble Dragon build. While one wouldn’t typically associate a dragon with such a cuddly demeanor, Tyler has convinced me otherwise with this deceptively simple creation. At first glance, we’re drawn to associate the CGI bubbles in both the foreground and background to the title. However, a closer examination reveals rounded, or bubbled, claws on the feet, hands, teeth, wings, and the cutest rounded belly. It’s putting to use just about every curved slope and rounded plate and tile that one can find in turquoise and orange-yellow!
