The LEGO Batman Movie 70912 Arkham Asylum [Review]

As the days count down to the release of The LEGO Batman Movie on 10 Feb 17, we wanted to keep your interest piqued with our latest movie tie-in set review, 70912 Arkham Asylum. Containing 1628 pieces, this is the largest set in The LEGO Batman Movie theme at present with the associated largest price tag of £139.99 / $149.99 / 149.99€, which equates to a price per piece of 8.6p / 9.2c / 9.2c, respectively. This set is rated for ages 12-16.

This is the third LEGO incarnation of Arkham Asylum and the biggest, though only just. The first was back in 2008 with 7785 Arkham Asylum, which has 860 pieces, 7 minifigures and a £59.99 / $79.99 price tag. The second, 10937 Batman: Arkham Asylum Breakout, was a 2012 set with 1,619 pieces, 8 minifigures, and a £129.99 / $159.99 / 159.99€ price tag. Finally, we have this latest release which nudges into the lead with a part count of 1,628, but has no less than 12 minifigures (well 13 if one includes the statue minifigure).

First look at the new 2017 LEGO sets from Nuremberg Toy Fair [News]

Germany’s Nuremberg Toy Fair is the largest Toy Fair in the world, and where toy manufacturers go to show off their new products to potential buyers. As in previous years, LEGO has a large presence with a lot of new sets. Thanks to our friends at Promobricks, we’re able to bring you the first look at some of what LEGO has planned for the rest of the year, including Architecture, Creator, Technic, City and more. LEGO Batman Movie 70909 Batcave Break-in [Review]

I don’t know about you guys, but I am super pumped for The LEGO Batman Movie coming out on February 10, 2017. We already know that Will Arnett as Batman is hilarious and there’s bound to be plenty of LEGO jokes hidden in the background. So while we count down the days until the hilarity ensues, let’s review one of the The LEGO Batman Movie sets: 70909 Batcave Break-In.

Overall, this set has a lot going for it. There are a ton of interesting play features built into the design and the two vehicles are phenomenal. Best of all, the set comes with 9 great minifigs, several of which are exclusive to this set. Continue reading →

Summer 2017 wave of LEGO Batman Movie sets revealed [News]

The LEGO Batman Movie’s Feb. 10 release is right around the corner, but LEGO isn’t done revealing all the tie-in sets yet. Last week we got a look at the new LEGO Brick Headz collectible figures line, which includes 4 characters from the movie, and today we’re getting our first look at the summer lineup of film sets, due out in June.

70916 The Batwing, $89.99 USD

Includes Batman, Robin, and the Batwing with seating for two minifigures. The Batwing can transform from flight to landing modes, and features a rear compartment with a small car. The Batwing is 18 in. (48cm) wide and 12 in. (31cm) long. The set also includes Harley Quinn and her cannon. We reviewed the Batwing mini set recently.

First official images of LEGO’s new Marvel & DC Superheroes BrickHeadz [News]

LEGO first unveiled the BrickHeadz theme of blocky, cute brick-built figures at San Diego ComicCon in 2016, but the 8 figures revealed then were a limited release only for that convention. Now we’re getting our first look at the sets that will be widely available, and the first wave includes 8 figures sold individually, split between DC characters from next month’s The LEGO Batman Movie and classic Marvel characters. Each figure will retail for $9.99, available Feb. 15 to LEGO VIP members, and March 1 to everyone else.

Every narcissistic superhero needs their “me, me, me time”

I know you’re all as insanely excited as we are about the forthcoming LEGO Batman Movie. We’ve already been tantalized with hilarious trailers, the official sets, and a rather splendid new line of collectible minifigs that reveal some of the movie’s bizarre characters and alternate versions of the titular hero. Toryman has built this charming living room around the Lobster-Lovin’ Batman minifigure:

While considerably more modest that the digs we’ll see in the movie, this version certainly measures up with its oversized fireplace, wine collection, very very dark grey coffee table, and tasteful red furnishings. Just the ticket for wandering about in a robe and gnawing on some lobster after a hard day’s crime fighting.

While we count down the days until the movie’s release on February 10th, TBB staff are working round the clock to try and crack the mystery behind the digits 07734. We have an extensive server farm crunching the numbers and searching for clues on the web night and day. So stay tuned! Life-sized LEGO Batmobile made from over 300,000 bricks [News]

Apparently Batman drives a Chevrolet, as LEGO and Chevrolet have teamed up to build a life-sized version of 70905 The Batmobile complete with Chevy bowtie emblem, and it is exactly as awesomely black (and very dark grey) as the Dark Knight might hope.

This huge “Speedwagon” from upcoming The LEGO Batman Movie was unveiled today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It was built as a life-sized, 1-1 scale replica of the LEGO Batmobile, much like the Star Wars X-wing from a few years ago.

The Batman playset you wished LEGO would make

Designer BenFifteenTheChicken puts together the playset that every Batman fan not only needs but deserves. At first glance, the setting of this LEGO creation looks similar to the 76001 The Bat vs. Bane™: Tumbler Chase, but the huge difference is not just that the models have the right bat-colored theme, but also that the builder has upgraded and redesigned each vehicle so that they have the proper look of the machines featured on the big screen.

My favourite bit is actually the miniature Bat-Pod built with minimal elements, but with maximum impact — with a secret feature! It actually is part of the Tumbler, secretly hidden and tucked within the front wheel layout!

Sentinels unleashed! Enormous LEGO X-Men Sentinel stands over 3 feet tall and lights up

LEGO builder Henry Pinto is such a huge fan of the X-Men that he had all 5 seasons of the animated series playing in loop for inspiration while building this gigantic Sentinel, which stands almost a meter (40 in) in height. The scale of this mighty robot is almost unfathomable until you notice the tiny X-Men minifigures around it.

It took Henry roughly around 3 months of working on it for an hour a day and leveraging the weekends for marathon builds. All in all, Henry estimates it took him 200 hours more or less to get it all done. Henry tells us he’s lost count of the number of elements used to build this monstrosity, but estimates 6000-7000 pieces at least, and weighing 7.5kgs (16.5 lbs).

Alfred, prepare the Bat Mech for battle!

With The LEGO Batman movie just around the corner, builder Tan Kok Mun unleashes Batman’s most feared weapon, the Bat Mech – complete with a Bat Hangar for poor ‘ol Alfred to service the bot when returning from battle. Kok Mun started his masterpiece late last year and kept tweaking parts until it looked perfect and ready. The model is posable and fully armed, with a futuristic retractable Bat Axe giving it one-of-a-kind weaponry for a unique suit of armour. This is one motorcycle gang you don’t want to cross

LEGO makes a wide variety of minifig-scale motorcycles, including a dirtbike, a large police-style bike, and even a pretty nifty Duplo motorcycle. These vehicles are nice, but it’s always refreshing when builders create their own unique vehicles instead. And that’s exactly what BenFifteenTheChicken did with these amazing superhero motorbikes.

Ben’s motorcycles look small enough to be made from a single LEGO mold, but look closely. Each of these bikes are built out of tons of tiny pieces like minifig hands, weapons, and headlight bricks.

I love that Ben built different bikes for Wolverine, the Punisher, Ghost Rider, and (everyone’s favorite) Deadpool. Each of these bikes have their own unique style and closely relate to the comic book character’s style and personality.

You’d better stay up in the sky till the superheroes have things sorted out

Bored with dull city dioramas where everything is awesome? Professional South Korean LEGO-building quartet OliveSeon knows how to ring the changes on the major LEGO city airport hub. How about a massive superhero battle? They’ve done some impressive work recreating one of the biggest screen brawls of the previous year, from Captain America: Civil War. And don’t be surprised: those planes and little yellow service cars are actually from official LEGO City sets, and they look simply perfect in this diorama.

What’s particularly awesome about this scene is the main airport building. I bet that perfectly planned and executed interior would make you forget there’s a battle going outside on the runway! Bonus points awarded for an extremely smart use of the tram from LEGO set 60097 City Square, which here is turned into an inter-terminal train.
