LEGO offers a trio of highly-anticipated sets to kick off December [News]

Amid all the Black Friday hoopla, the beginning of December nearly managed to sneak away into obscurity in the shadow of Avenger’s Tower. And yet, we have a set of new adult-themed sets hitting store shelves today: LEGO Ideas 21344 The Orient Express Train, LEGO Icons 10326 Natural History Museum, and LEGO Icons 10329 Tiny Plants. And while all the Black Friday and Insiders Weekend deals/GWPs have now dried up, a pair of new GWPs we recently reviewed are now available on the site: US | CAN | UK.

LEGO Ideas 21344 Orient Express revealed [News]

LEGO Ideas switches to a new track with the reveal of 21344 Orient Express. The Orient Express is a classic train that is a part of popular culture, most prominently in Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express novel and its movie adaptations. The Orient Express first ran in 1883, and though the original incarnation ceased operation in 1977, you can still ride the Venice-Simplon Orient Express in very similar coaches today. The set rumbles in with a 4-6-0 steam locomotive, a 3-axle tender, a restaurant car, and a sleeping car with two classes of accommodations. Built from 2,540 pieces and including 8 minifigures, it will be available from LEGO.com and LEGO stores worldwide starting December 1st for US $299.99 | CAN $TBD | UK £259.99.

LEGO Ideas 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei Gift with Purchase: Will it do the Fandango? [Review]

Of late, we’ve had quite a few LEGO Gifts with Purchase that have come from the LEGO Ideas platform. We’ve also had some based on historical figures. Now, the two streams have been crossed in the form of 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei, the winning submission in the Ready, Set, Go STEM! contest. It will be available from the 1st to 16th of November, with purchases totalling US $130 | CAN $TBD | UK £130 on the LEGO website or in LEGO brick-and-mortar retail stores. But is it worth stumping up the cash for the two weeks that it’s available? Read on to find out!

LEGO Ideas 21343 Viking Village revealed [News]

French retailer Fnac have given us an early glimpse of the next LEGO Ideas set: 21343 Viking Village. The original Ideas submission by user Brickhammer did reach the magic 10,000 supporters number, but didn’t make it past the reveiw stage. However, last year it was part of a vote conducted between LEGO and US retailer Target to bring back one of these sets. The submission will finally see the light of day over 3 years after its original submission. With 2,103 pieces and four minifigures, the set is expected to hit Fnac’s shelves on October 1st, for an estimated US $139.99 | CAN $TBD | UK £TBD.

A snowman attack in August? Sure thing!

With some extreme weather, wildfires, and record temperatures, it wouldn’t be so far-fetched to see this LEGO scene built by PeterBoxXu. I mean, we’ve already seen murder hornets and a Latter-Day Saint ghost town that keeps emerging from Lake Mead and we didn’t even have that on our weird stuff bingo card. Somehow I love the concept of a massive snowman who has had enough of your winter holiday cheer. In August, no less! I like the snowman’s red neckerchief and his grabby Maxifig hands. The snowblower figure hurling through the air has definitely seen better days. If this creation wins the contest for the “All Seasons” theme it just might be seen in the LEGO Ideas House. I’m rooting for the snowman. In fact, with oppressive temperatures and a hint of smoke in the air, I’d welcome a snowman attack right about now. Or was I thinking of a cold glass of lemonade? Yeah, that’s it, cold lemonade!

LEGO reveals The Insect Collection as the next LEGO Ideas set [News]

Introducing 21342 LEGO Ideas The Insect Collection, originally conceived by LEGO fan José Maria, from Spain. The set itself consists of a blue morpho butterfly, a Hercules beetle and a female Chinese mantis. The insects are accompanied by a small honeybee and a seven-spotted ladybug. Each one of the main bugs comes with their own buildable habitat. To celebrate the launch, the LEGO group will be accompanying the set with a new nature-inspired ASMR playlist called Green Noise. The playlist is created in partnership with award winning and Emmy-nominated Foley artist Sanaa Kelley. It can be enjoyed online at LEGO.com/insects. LEGO Ideas 21341 Hocus Pocus brings Disney’s famous witches to the brick [News]

Today LEGO has finally revealed the next upcoming Ideas set will be 21341 Hocus Pocus. Last August LEGO revealed that Belgian Fan Designer Amber Veyt‘s Hocus Pocus – Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage submission would become an official set after reaching the requisite 10k votes to be considered in October 2021. The new set will feature the Sanderson Sister’s Cottage, which opens to show the museum and witches’ home inside. Six minifigures will be included: the three Sanderson Sisters, Max, Danni, and Allison, along with Thackery Binx as a black cat. The set will contain 2,316 pieces and is slated to be available for LEGO VIP members starting July 1, with general availability following on July 4. It will retail for US $229.99 | CAN $299.99 | UK £229.99.

Off the wall or off the grid, you decide

Famed LEGO builder and Ideas set designer Andrea Lattanzio proposed the question; have you ever thought about living “off the wall”? That got me thinking; does he mean off the grid? While I use the term “off the wall” occasionally, I went ahead and looked it up and the definition is cited as eccentric or unconventional with their example being
“a zany, wacky, off-the-wall weirdo”. In that regard, to answer your question, Andrea I give you a resounding hell yes! Eccentric and unconventional all the way, mio amico! However, he goes on to say that the characters in this creation “probably ended up living like this because of an all-out war that wiped everything out.” So does that mean off the grid, then? Andrea goes on to say that they seem quite happy, so that’s a good thing.

Whether they’re off the wall or off the grid there’s no denying these great shapes and build techniques. He pays homage to plenty of creations from his past; the tile with the blue cottage is in reference to the 21338 A-Frame set that he designed and the white boat on the roof may be the very one taken from his Stilt House Ideas concept. Can you spot other references? There are Easter eggs a-plenty!

The Lord of the Rings is full of scenes perfect for adapting into LEGO for the LEGO Ideas challenge “Explore the Middle-earth”. Builder BardJaskier chose one of the most iconic scenes to adapt — the Bridge of Kazad-Dûm. This scene features Gandalf the Grey standing in the way of a mighty Balrog to buy the Fellowship time to escape from the Mines of Moria. To say the Balrog towers over Gandalf is to do a disservice to the presence of the foul being. BardJaskier does a great job of capturing the dreadful power of the Balrog as it wields its fiery sword and whip. And those wings! They’re majestic and terrifying at the same time. They feature fantastic parts reuse from the Ninjago set 71753 Fire Dragon Attack. And let’s not forget the rest of the scene! I do love the techniques and design of the bridge and the surrounding mines. They do a good job of conveying the wear of time.

LEGO Ideas 21338 A-Frame Cabin unveiled [News]

LEGO has just unveiled the LEGO 21338 Ideas A-Frame Cabin in its final form. The A-Frame cabin was selected as one of the winners from the second 2021 review results submitted by Andrea Lattanzio (norton74). It will be available on February 6, 2023 and retailing for US $179.99 | CAN $239.99 | UK £159.99

The magic of Willow can be yours

If you missed the epic Lucas/Howard film in 1988 as I did, then you can redeem yourself in a couple of different ways. You may catch the new series streaming on Disney Plus starting today. Apparently, Warwick Davis will be reprising his titular role as the diminutive Willow Ufgood. Secondly, you may gaze upon this amazing LEGO playset built by Tobias Roloff. I can’t name these characters nor recall the scenes depicted here but, despite missing out on the cinematic action long ago, I know a fun playset when I see one. I mean, just look at those great textures and plant life and suspended bridges! You, on the other hand, may be better versed in the action sequences depicted here and you may be losing your collective cookies at the total awesomeness illustrated here.

Thirdly, (Did I mention there was a third option?) Tobias isn’t shy about notifying you that you can vote for this on LEGO Ideas to make this Willow playset a reality. Will you get a kick out of LEGO Ideas 21337 Table Football [REVIEW]

LEGO Ideas has produced an increasing number of sets based on contests, in addition to the regular get-10,000-votes method. Most of these have been smaller gift-with-purchase items, but LEGO Ideas 21337 Table Football joins 21329 Fender Stratocaster as a full-size retail set. This was the winning submission in the We Love Sports LEGO Ideas contest, and let’s get right to the main question: the winning submission was a full-size, 11-on-11 table football setup (usually referred to as foosball in the U.S.). When the contest results were announced, lots of fans were excited to get a near full-size playable game. That swiftly turned to disappointment when the official pictures were released. The set has been scaled down to 5-a-side, less than half the size of the original! While there are very clear reasons for that choice, does it still leave us with a desirable set? LEGO Ideas 21337 Table Football, with 2,339 pieces and a whopping 22* minifigures (* and even more hair and heads), is available now for US $249.99 | CAN $309.99 | UK £214.99.
