Amazing LEGO Stop-motion Ghostbusters [Video]

Paul Hollingsworth and the fine folks at Digital Wizards have done it again, bringing us a stop-motion LEGO version of Ghostbusters. This 4:30 minute brickfilm is a labor of love, requiring over 2,000 hours of time for animation, building, lighting, compositing and composing the final product! The opening shot alone, according to the animators, took 12 hours to set up and 6 hours to animate.

All of your favorites make cameos to help the fabulous four battle the terrible (and terribly adorable!) Stay Puft Marshmallow man!

This Shadow Hunter fighter’s alien design makes me feel uncomfortable

Great creations are those that are able to stirs emotions — joy, amazement, compassion or even uneasiness. Somehow Sheo. has developed such an unusual building style, that almost each of his works looks a little bit disturbing to me — of course, in the best sense of the word.

When you hear the word “starfighter” you prepare yourself to see an awesome cockpit, some huge engines and a couple of powerful laser guns. But not this time. I can distinguish engines on the back and at least a dozen of gun barrels on the front, but the overall appearance gives me shivers as I can’t tell what these silver wings or round golden tiles are for…it’s convincingly alien. And don’t even tell me there will be Mark III!

LEGO announces The Beatles Yellow Submarine and Apollo 11 Saturn V as next LEGO IDEAS models [News]

The LEGO Ideas team has announced the winners of the third 2015 LEGO Ideas Review. Nine sets were up for consideration, and two were selected. These projects will now proceed through a design phase, where LEGO designers will tweak the designs. They will then become available as official LEGO sets.

Evenfall Castle

This LEGO castle by Tirrell Brown is just terrific! It’s got the perfect combination of stonework, woodwork, and landscaping. I particularly love the blocky crenellation along the walls and the super-close spacing on those rounded windows in the two wooden towers. I wish I could shrink down to minifig size and explore all the nooks and crannies of this beauty.

French artist builds huge metal LEGO minifigures that are completely poseable

Ever wanted a giant LEGO minifigure? French artist Mat Green, who specializes in welding, decided to put his considerable metal-working skills to use crafting these remarkably accurate renditions of a LEGO minifigure and a LEGO skeleton. Mat tells us it took him two months to craft the minifigure, whom he’s named Hugo. Hugo weighs 110 pounds and stands over four feet tall. The coolest thing about Hugo though, is that he’s just as poseable as his plastic siblings. Mat then created Pablo, whom he says is a Mexican punk rocker skeleton. Pablo weighs 130 pounds, and comes with a removable Mohawk.

A couple contributors here at The Brothers Brick couldn’t resist the trend of building Overwatch heroes started with D.Va, Tracer, and Zenyatta. First we have TBB’s own Simon Liu flexing his mecha building talents with the nature-loving death machine Bastion.

A scene of Hotline Miami, recreated in LEGO

Hotline Miami LEGO are two things which shouldn’t mix. One is an ultra-violent top down murder fest of a game, and the other is a made-for-kids interlocking bricks system. Luckily, Nannan Zhang does both properties justice with this little scene from the games.

Aside from the great colours used to imitate the game and the textured brick pieces being used as carpet details, what I really love is the fact that (as far as I can tell) only LEGO pieces were used. The Chima headpiece acting as a Tony Mask works particularly well. It all comes together so well and makes me want to play the games again.

Ghostbusters 3 Ecto 1 & 2 [Review]

The long-awaited third Ghostbusters movie is due to première in about five weeks. The first trailer quickly became the most disliked movie trailer on YouTube and the second trailer strikes me as particularly unfunny too. Oh dear. Of course I’ll have to withhold judgement on whether the movie is any good until after it hits the discount DVD bin. And this is not a movie review site, of course, but there is at least one interesting thing that has already come out of this movie so far: a brand-new LEGO set, 75828 Ghostbusters ECTO 1 & 2.

The set was announced in February, is due for release in the Summer, and will retail in the US for $59.99. The goodie bag I received during my recent trip to Billund contained an early release copy of this set, which gives me the opportunity to review it.

Giant LEGO recreation of Force Awakens hangar holds four TIE fighters

Near the beginning of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Poe and Finn hijack a TIE fighter and make their escape. The scene plays out in the hanger of the First Order’s star destroyer, the Finalizer. This hangar has been painstakingly recreated in LEGO by LegoSpencer in this project that took six weeks to create. The final build features four official LEGO TIE fighter sets as well as a few dozen stormtroopers and an untold amount of detailing. When you accidentally brick your phone

Maybe you were trying to jailbreak your iPhone, or maybe you were rooting your new Samsung. Or, if you’re clever like Ordo, “bricking” your phone means something entirely different—something a whole lot more fun. This artful still life looks like the real deal at a glance, but inspect more closely and you’ll see that not only is the phone LEGO, but the charger, outlet and even the countertop are too.

High heels, white evening gloves, a red corset with black laces, a dark red cushion and an intriguing posture… This must be the exact definition of a goddess. Eero Okkonen sculpted the most thrilling character out of a handful of bricks and we are left to admire his talent and her beauty.

Micro-scale LEGO SLS rocket is ready for NASA’s Next Giant Leap

NASA Engineer and LEGO fan Nicholas Mastramico has brought us a most excellent follow up to the shuttle, launch pad, and SLS rocket we featured last week. Nicholas’s microscale version is eye-catching with the great detail he’s packed into such a small model. What makes his version particularly special is his relationship with the rocket: Nicholas is a structural design engineer for NASA, and is currently working on the real SLS rocket.

This means his micro-SLS has a unique opportunity to stand in the shadows of its ancestors, like the Saturn V rocket pictured here.

Nicholas says he’s always been a huge sci-fi fan – but it was the early pictures of Mars from Sojourner that truly hooked him on space travel. He decided then he would build rockets for NASA one day, and that goal guided him through school to where he is now. He was recently involved in a test with a weather balloon, for which he provided a passenger. The experiment took the minifig up to 120,000 feet!
