Relaxing in the green room

OK, so this LEGO green room may not be the waiting area for celebrities, but chances are it’s also a lot homier. This modest den accentuated with emerald tapestries is yet another of Jonas Kramm‘s fantastic uses for the Duplo grass element. Look closely, and you’ll spy the unwieldy element in two distinct applications, but don’t miss all the other wonderful details while you’re searching, from the bearskin rug to the agave plant made of alligator tails.

Green Lounge

Jonas built this lovely den for the Iron Builder contest, where he continues to make excellent work of the Duplo seed element, having previously used it as a flying carpet and the roof of whimsical huts.

Initiate Megazord sequence! Amazing LEGO Power Rangers Megazord is actually made of separate Dinozords

The new Power Rangers movie opened in theaters yesterday, exciting ’90s kids everywhere as the first major motion picture in the franchise in 20 years.  LEGO hasn’t picked up the license for Power Rangers, but that hasn’t stopped eager fans from building their favorite characters, such as this boss Megazord by ckb ckd.

The coolest part, though, is that it actually transforms into the 5 Dinozords.

A perfect reflection: the Taj Mahal in microscale

India’s most famous piece of architecture is also the world’s most famous mausoleum and the final resting place of Mumtaz Mahal, a 17th-century empress consort. Builder Brick Point brings us a lovely microscale LEGO rendition complete with the tomb and its surrounding grounds, including the long reflecting pool in front.

And if you want to see how the builder created this, they’ve made an excellent 55-second time-lapse video of the construction showing the process layer by layer.

The question is: Who... are you?

Although often offering wise words to Simba, the wizened old Rafiki nevertheless delights in riddles and unorthodox tutelage. Channeling that spirit of unconventionality, builder SephiMoc FF7 uses quite an interesting assortment of LEGO pieces to bring life to this sage from Disney’s The Lion King. The eccentric mandrill is recognizable with his brightly colored face, which is framed with white fur made of feathered wings and various horn elements. Look closely and you’ll spot that Rafiki’s eyebrows are a handlebar, while the ball joints give this character plenty of poseability.

The bold choice of a purple background works splendidly, offsetting both the white face and the grey body, as well as complementing the orange logo nicely. There’s even a tiny Simba cub for Rafiki to gloriously hold aloft:

LEGO emergency vehicles in a scale New York City makes you feel like a minifigure

Ever wonder what it might look like to wander the streets of New York at night, if you were a minifigure and the city was made of LEGO? Builder sponki25 has taken some incredible shots of his brick-built emergency vehicles, placing them in their urban environment, and it gives us exactly that experience.

We’ve highlighted some of Sponki’s amazing minifigure-scale emergency vehicles before, but he continues to grow his collection, recently adding a GMC 2500 FNDY support truck and an instantly recognizable FDNY EMS Ford Interceptor (the law enforcement version of the Ford Explorer).

Zombie outbreak at the last enclave

Is this encampment the last bastion of humanity in a world gone awry? Or are there other holdouts, lone refuges for the few who still know friend from foe. I suspect the inhabitants of this outpost created by Lego Master don’t know, but they’ll keep on fighting against the undead hoards no matter what.

LEGO announces new McLaren 720S Speed Champions set [News]

This morning LEGO revealed another supercar entry to the popular Speed Champions line. The McLaren 720S (set 75880) will be joining the likes of the Ford GT, Bugatti Chiron, and more when it’s available this June. The bright orange car also includes a car designer minifigure and a design desk for sketching out the cars of the future. We don’t have word yet on the price or part count, but it’s a safe bet it will be priced at $14.99 USD like the other standalone Speed Champions.

Two-foot tall LEGO Spyrius mega robot is ready to crush all enemies

Who remembers Spyrius? It was a small LEGO space theme released in 1994, and featured red and black wheeled mechs piloted by droids and humans. Builder Spaceruner has created a new supreme commander for the Spyrius legions, in the form of a mighty mech named Behemoth. This giant robot of doom stands nearly two feet tall (56cm) and can crush all who stand in its way with its 10-wheel drive.

RX1 - Behemoth

Clearly, Spaceruner’s Behemoth takes its design cues from the official 6949 Robo-Guardian set, and just like that set, the Behemoth is loaded with play features. Spaceruner intended this model to be played with, not to collect dust on a shelf. He’s built the model around an extra sturdy Technic frame designed to withstand the rigors of play, and I already want to drive it through a Unitron monorail like some giant space robot Godzilla. If the outside is impressive, though, just wait til you see what Spaceruner has packed inside. Continue reading

2017 Toy Fair New York roundup and inside look at LEGO’s booth [News]

Undoubtedly you’ve noticed from our weekend posts that Toy Fair New York began on Saturday, and we were there in person to bring you coverage of LEGO’s latest news. This year I had the pleasure of attending as the representative from The Brothers Brick, tasked with the oh-so-onerous duties of getting a hands-on look at new LEGO sets months in advance of their release and bringing our readers photographs of them.

Adorable brick superheroes get supersized

LEGO’s new BrickHeadz may the latest fad, but French builder Jimmy Fortel is showing us they don’t have the market cornered for adorable superhero characters made of bricks. The Chibz characters, designed by Jimmy, are a bit larger than BrickHeadz and can incorporate great brick-built expressions into the faces as well as more detail on the bodies. Jimmy’s started off with 3 each from Marvel and DC, and has more planned.
