This stunning build by Tim Lydy is bursting off the page. From Spider-Man’s tingling spider-sense to Rhino’s furious face, the model portrays a chaotic scene, as our web-swinging hero has his hands full. Eggs are sent flying into the air by Rhino’s charge while a bemused cat hangs onto Spider-Man’s arm. The thin lettering perfectly suits the Spider-Man theme with a fantastic-looking spider symbol. There is also a barcode that completes the comic book aesthetic of the display.
Juggernaut and rampage are two words in the English language you don’t want to hear together and yet here we are. This particular Juggernaut is in reference to the X-Men baddy whose schtick is using his bullet-shaped head as a battering ram. For some reason when I try the same thing the results are less than optimal. Here we see Wolverine either trying to stop him or going for a ride on the massive belligerent brawler’s back. Either way, this portion of the X-Mansion is surely about to turn into rubble. This fun X-Men LEGO diorama is brought to you by The Brothers Brick alumni Tim Lydy. I really like Juggernaut’s running stance and Wolverine’s leap lines created with clear flex tubes are a nifty touch. It appears as if Wolverine was tasked with mowing the lawn just as the big bruiser came barreling through.
We’ve seen several very impressive Batcaves over the years but poor Mr. Freeze has been largely thus far given the cold shoulder. Until now. Brothers Brick alumni Tim Lydy invests several months and an ungodly amount of LEGO bricks, both stock and custom, to give Mr. Freeze a fitting lair complete with about seventy individual LED lights. The exterior of the museum is quite impressive with its textured brickwork and massive Spartan statues flanking central Greek-style columns. The icy ornamentation along the top and the frozen tail to the right offers just a glimpse of what’s inside. Let’s take a tour, shall we?
Batman movies are synonymous with being blockbusters, but rarely ever a “bust.” Now Tim Lydy makes that uncommon instance all the rage through the reveal of The Batman bust. Tim’s creation displays the cold stone-faced expression of Robert Pattinson, who is the latest actor to portray Batman in the forthcoming film. Since the film’s announcement this year, details around Batman’s cowl and suit have been a hot topic of conversation on social media.
The long ears are back after their short stint on the caped crusader in Justice League and Batman vs. Superman. Tim also uses two pairs of elements on each side of the chest’s silhouette. The medium barrel automatic pistol and the black pistol revolver both reflect how firearms shape the new logo in The Batman. Around the base, the placement of the black cat, question mark and umbrella reference the film’s villains: Catwoman, Riddler and Penguin, respectively.
Starting today through November 30, Tim’s The Batman bust is for sale to benefit 2020’s Creations for Charity event. Four copies of the bust will be available for purchase, and all of the sales fund LEGO sets for underprivileged kids this Christmas.
Tim Lydy surprises us with his LEGO Mister Mind build. Not being familiar with the source material, I thought at first it was just a cute little caterpillar. But I was sadly misinformed, this is none other than DC’s most evil and devious villain Mister Mind, an alien worm and the nemesis to Shazam. I was drawn to this creation because I really enjoy it when something really small gets turned into an upscaled LEGO model. (Keep in mind, I still thought this was just a mere caterpillar.) The body is made of a bunch of projectile disks on what I presume is a piece of flex tubing. The head is made of the insect cap headgear and the butt is a sport helmet with vent holes. The eyes are quite cleverly made of two minidoll necklaces. Did you spot the paperclip on the floor?
Order 66 has been executed. The Clone Wars have ended. Sith Lord Darth Vader has become Emperor Sheev Palpatine’s trusted enforcer, bringing Imperial order to an unruly galaxy. Tim Lydy has put his stamp on this era of turmoil with his first-ever Star Wars creation, and it is most excellent.
I really love how cramped and chaotic the trench feels. However the highlight for me is the giant statue of Palpatine constructed out of Light Aqua which doesn’t really have a very extensive parts selection yet.
I also appreciate the effort Tim went to incorporating the writing on the side of the scene in Aurabesh, the Star Wars universe’s standard alphabet.
TBB alumnus Tim has been featured in the past for his work with superhero–themed models. I certainly wouldn’t mind if he dabbled in the Star Wars sandbox some more!
What better way to celebrate the season than with a delicious gingerbread train? Well, maybe not so delicious, but this build by TBB alumnus Tim Lydy certainly looks incredible! All aboard the Gingerbread Express! The colors and parts usage are full of fun. And perhaps one of the best aspects is that the giant tree “cookie” on the third car spins, much like the one from the 2016 LEGO 10254 Winter Holiday Train set.
