A quaint village of Ninjago

The world of Ninjago is rife with opportunities for exceptional fan-built LEGO creations, but oddly we don’t see them too often. One gorgeous exception, however, is this vignette of a small village by jaapxaap. The red oriental structures are highlighted with strands of gold, and the curved roofs are admirably done.

This would look right at home next to the terrific Temple of Airjitzu set, which is currently $25 off on Amazon.

Sneak peak at The Master: A LEGO Ninjago Short [News]

Following on from the success of The LEGO Movie, Warner Bros have announced both The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago movie. Yesterday, USA Today released a clip of an animated short from the latter, entitled “The Master battles a chicken”.

A song of ice and fire...Mechs

Ninjago is one of the most popular LEGO themes, and I can see the appeal — it’s ninjas with elements and hi-tech gadgets. It’s every (big and small) kid’s fantasy. And while I’ve collected many sets from this theme over time, the most current one, Ninjas vs. Sky Pirates, is just a dream come true, and to celebrate that, I decided to build my own Ninjago-inspired mechs!

First, Lloyd’s Modified flyer from the Set 70605 – Misfortune’s Keep. When I first got the set, I knew I was going to like the ship, but I was pleasantly surprised by the concept of the flyer, so I just pimped it — added new arms, a lot more greebling, more attitude, and the name “Fujin”, and called it a day.

LEGO Ninjago 70602 Jay’s Elemental Dragon [Review]

This spring the sky is the battlefield between good and evil. Skybound, the theme of the new Ninjago sets, brings the action high above the ground. Our team has already reviewed Zeppelin Raid, Misfortune’s Keep and Tiger Widow Island, which introduced our readers to all the evil characters. Now it’s time to take a look at what good ninjas have to respond with. 70602 Jay’s Elemental Dragon is a medium-sized set of 350 pieces, which includes 2 minifigures and a monkey, and its retail price of $29.99 seems appropriate.

Pieces are distributed between 3 bags: the first one contains parts for the flyer and the body of the dragon, the second bag allows building of the dragon’s head, while the third one contains the largest parts which form a pair of wings and a tail. Surprisingly enough, the instructions are provided in two rather thin booklets, though one medium-sized book would be more convenient to use and to store. Last but not least is a sticker sheet with 14 stickers on it.

LEGO Ninjago 70604 Tiger Widow Island [Review]

By now, everyone is familiar with Ninjago’s new Skybound theme. We’ve already reviewed Zeppelin Raid and Misfortune’s Keep and today, we’d like to share our review of 70604 Tiger Widow Island. The set includes 450 pieces, 5 minifigs, and retails for $49.99. The instructions were clear and easy to follow and, except for the tricky chain connection holding up the “teeth” of the cave, the build was relatively straightforward.

March 2016 LEGO sets now available: Ninjago, Captain America: Civil War, Star Wars & more [News]

While LEGO builders in many other parts of the world have been enjoying the first quarter LEGO sets since January, LEGO is finally releasing about 45 new sets on March 1st in the US. In addition to the Captain America: Civil War and Elves sets we’ve known were planned for release on March 1st, we finally have the official release in the US of the new Ninjago “Skybound” sets, Star Wars battlepacks, and LEGO Super Heroes Mighty Micros.

As always, a portion of everything you purchase by clicking through from TBB goes to support contests like Space Chefs and giveaways like our March LEGO Batcave giveaway (along with the humdrum business of running a high-traffic website).

More LEGO Ninjago 2016 sets revealed at NYC Toy Fair [News]

The LEGO Ninjago theme has had an odd release cycle this year, with sets available outside the US months in advance of the largest market for LEGO, and product details only available at the last minute — LEGO only provided final details of the March 2016 Ninjago sets earlier this week. So, with the caveat that not all details are available or 100% confirmed at this time, here’s what we know about upcoming LEGO Ninjago sets, as revealed at Toy Fair in New York this morning.

Official details of March 2016 Ninjago sets revealed [News]

In advance of our coverage from New York Toy Fair this coming weekend, LEGO has provided us with some details missing from previous coverage of the 2016 Ninjago line, including full product descriptions, higher-res images, and confirmation of a March release date. When LEGO had sets like 70605 Misfortune’s Keep and 70603 Raid Zeppelin available in mid-December to send us for review, we were actually expecting a January release, but January has come and gone somewhat to our confusion, so it’s good to finally have confirmation of the real street date.

Final product descriptions follow each image below, but be sure to click through to Flickr and check out the first full-res images of the 2016 Ninjago sets.

Mighty Dogshank is approaching carrying her huge anchor weapon. Fight back with Nya’s katana and drop coconuts on Dogshank from the tower and Sensei Wu’s hot air balloon. Watch out for Sqiffy’s pirate flyer and make the palm tree fall to knock him off the ladder. Hide out in the cave — and beware of the giant venomous spider roaming the island! Defeat the pirate invaders and free trapped Lloyd from the special Djinn Blade!

70602 Jay’s Elemental Dragon (350 pieces at $29.99)

Jump into the dragon’s saddle and grab the reins. Snap the jaws and adjust the head, wings, legs and tail for awesome battle poses. Dodge Cyren’s harpoon hook shooter and the pirate flyer’s six-shooting rapid shooter. Fire the spring-loaded shooters to take down the flyer and then release Nya from the Djinn Blade!

Lord Garmadon made gargantuan

Man, LEGO 7 is fast becoming one of my favourite builders. I recently featured the “Cattle Devil” (a Minotaur by any other name) and now we have this. There’s no description to go along with it, but it is named Lord Garmadon, which is most definitely the character from the Ninjago theme only turned up to, well 10 or 11 isn’t high enough. ^10 maybe?

Lord Garmadon-7

This is really one of those builds where I suggest you just go through the builder’s photostream to see the rest of the pictures instead of reading this. It’s worth every click, I promise you.

Ninjago 70605 Misfortune’s Keep [Review]

Ninjago’s new theme for 2016, called Skybound, takes us to the air in an epic duel between sky pirates and our intrepid heroes, the ninjas. We’ve already reviewed 70603 Zeppelin Raid, and now thanks to LEGO we are able to get our hands on the literal flagship for the theme, 70605 Misfortune’s Keep. The set includes 754 pieces, and we expect it to retail for around $80 when it debuts in the coming weeks. Included are the main airship, a smaller flier for both factions, and six minifigs and a monkey.
