A while ago we featured an excellent set of instructions for a tiny typewriter. While that was amazing build in its own right, this build by Steve Guinness is quite impressive! The details such as the ribbon spool, the carriage return lever, the type bar and colour somehow remind me of an old school Remington Junior styled from the 1930s. I did spot something unusual though, the space bar seems to be missing!
I’m not sure if Bernopi is an architect or not, but his LEGO villa certainly looks like it was designed by one. With a greyscale colour scheme, clean lines and a hint of International Style, this is my kind of house. I love the tilted roofs that add interest to the box-like style of construction and the main stairs are enticingly simple in appearance. The only LEGO colours used are Black, White, Medium Stone Grey and Dark Stone Grey but the different textures and angles ensure that this creation is aesthetically intriguing and attractive.
I imagine this to be a home with minimalistic interior that is easy to keep tidy. We will have to use our imagaintion as there are no interior images just the views through the window.
In addition to the LEGO Marvel Avengers Infinity War sets that are now available, an additional four BrickHeadz sets from the upcoming mega-blockbuster have been revealed. They include Iron-Man MK50, Thanos, Star-Lord, and Gamora.

Douglas Adams’ quirky comedy sci-fi series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy arrived on our planet exactly 40 years ago today, introducing our primitive human brains to such concepts as Vogons, Babel fish, infinite improbability drives, towels and the ravenous bugblatter beast of Traal. Broadcast as a radio series in the UK, the story has been adapted and reworked as a TV show, stage show, novels, comic books, a video game and most recently a big budget movie.
To mark the show’s anniversary, the BBC is launching an all-new radio adaption which begins today! Above is my personal LEGO tribute to this frequently-quoted staple of British popular culture. It depicts various Hitchhiker’s Guide characters floating helplessly in space (including a small Easter egg in honor of one particularly famous Adams fan).

Remember Jason Allemann (AKA JK Brickworks)? He’s the LEGO builder who designed the LEGO Ideas 21305 Maze set. He’s also the mastermind behind several other awesome creations that we’ve featured over the years. Now Jason is at it again with this brilliant little machine, a candy catapult! He constructed it entirely from the newly-released BOOST Creative Toolbox set 17101.

With the recently concluded LEGO speeder bike contest, there have been hundreds of speeder bikes submitted, and I too have decided to join in at the last minute with a police chase diorama. The build started with the police speeder and its huge windscreen, which gave me the idea of a wall-smashing speeder in a future where buildings are so cheap to rebuild, a police officer may consider just breaking through a few walls to catch a criminal.
I have put a large majority of the effort on the speeder bikes themselves, with the somewhat simple diorama acting as a catalyst to join them together in a cohesive scene. The walls are literally broken up by the hole that the police speeder has punched in them, as well as a hole being repaired by a 3D-printing robot.
Since this diorama was built for a contest and it was limited by a deadline, I put emphasis on the speeder bikes themselves, but the concept of a crushed wall and a wall being printed are something I really want to revisit. While I do have a technique for both in mind, there are a lot of other things I want to build before I return to Distrikt 18.
Every LEGO build starts somewhere. In the case of “Reverend Frantic” by Eero Okkonen, everything started with the chest. Eero notes on his blog that the build began with the inspiration for the chest, which is composed of two red big-fig arms. It’s a very curious piece to use as the chest of a figure, however the curvature of the element really adds fantastic visual interest to this build.
From the use of skeleton arms as fingers, to turning the 4-way lug wrench piece on the chest into what appears to be a cross when combined with a lightsaber blade holder… there’s quite a bit going on here the more you look.
This stylish mech by Marco De Bon is giving off a serious anime vibe, from the massive, multi-angled feet to the rounded shoulders, not to mention the dual mounted guns on the back. The pilot’s rig is surprisingly simple but very well designed. I also love the mech sized pistols.
Bonus: this mech actually features 2 cockpits, allowing the gunner to ride in the back panel.
If you have ever tried to imagine where the Collectible Minifig Series 13’s Hot Dog Guy would feel most at home, wonder no more as Andrea Lattanzio has captured a rare glimpse of him in his natural habitat. He looks pleased as a pickle surrounded by grazing minifigs scarfing down delicious hot dogs at perfect picnic tables, while the local cat sniffs hungrily for food. I love the tall arrowed sign and the giant hot dog on the roof.
Take a moment to appreciate all the small details that all add up to a great little scene; the gumball machine, soft-drink dispenser and delivery guy to name but a few. Continue reading
Broken windows, damaged buildings, garbage on the street and infrastructure destroyed are some of the tell-tale signs of a post-apocolyptic world. There’s ample of opportunity to see some post-apocolyptic decay in this fantastic diorama by W. Navarre that centres around a couple of office buildings in what used to be part of a city and descends into an underground world of “every man for himself.” The Chima game card works surprisingly well as an advertising sign, and the collapsed sign with the Nike logo has seen better days. I particularly like the subterranean part of the build; it’s like an underground car park that has been repurposed, and there’s plenty of pipes, wires and drains to catch your eye.

More often than not, landscaping techniques in LEGO creations serve a secondary purpose, like helping a building or a story feel complete. While this little landscape by Emil Lidé does contain more than just plants and rocks, that hierarchy of motives is inverted here. Instead of the landscape augmenting the “story,” the decrepit wall and building’s remains add some purpose to the dense and diverse foliage.
