Upgrade-o to the ‘Bago

When the future eventually gets here, I have to imagine the car modding community will go nuts. They already do mad match-ups with cars and engines that have no business being in the same package. Unfortunately, the future isn’t here yet, but that hasn’t stopped LEGO builder Isaac Wilder from adding some crazy machinery to the humble Winnebago. No way this thing is holding up traffic on the highway with that massive rocket on the back. It’s an authentic upgrade as well, rather than being a completely new build. We featured the original caravan nearly two years ago!

Going for a swim just off the cape

I absolutely adore this red goldfish LEGO build by Dicken Liu! Its big, gaping white mouth is perfect for a cyprinid with a known memory problem. The use of rounded tiles for scales feels perfect for such a cartoonish creation. And the intricate touch of the gold ring around its eye is absolutely perfect here. But the real star of the show is the terrific use of Doctor Strange capes throughout the model. The part fits in perfectly for the goldfish’s flowing fins, bringing the model to life.

Wall-E and friends have never looked cuter in LEGO

For a creature with relatively few humanoid features, Wall-E is a wonderfully expressive character. The same can be true for his robotic co-stars though, such as EVE and M-O. Lego_nuts has a talent for creating expressive characters, so perhaps it’s no surprise that they’ve treated us to the trio in LEGO form! The three are perfectly crafted, from the protagonist’s more angular, mechanical shapes to EVE’s curvaceous form. The wonder in Wall-E’s eyes at his new green friend is palpable!

The brick-built background is also impressive – an extra detail I always love to see. They’ve done something similar with the scrap heap at Wall-E’s feet in this imitation of the original movie poster. Along with some judicious lighting and editing, this looks absolutely gorgeous!

All aboard! Take a trip on this cool train

Trains are always cool, but I feel like LEGO trains are even better! Builder Justus M. presents to us this green train, inspired by the set 79111 Constitution Train Chase. Personally, I much prefer this train to the one in the set. The color blocking is better and I really like the less blocky lines to the whole thing. I also enjoy the addition of the extra little light on the front of the train. This is a build that I’d love to see added to with train cars and more tracks! Part of the fun of seeing builds taken on from LEGO sets is that they often bring out an inner beauty that just needs a little love to shine. This is a prime example of that.

“The foot stud’s connected to the leg tube...”

No bones about it, builder ZiO Chao knows their LEGO anatomy! Their impressive hybrid of System and Technic parts gives us a peek into our innermost core while still providing quite the possible finished model. The cranial crafting here is spot on, with an excellent pair of eye sockets and two dazzling rows of 1×1 plate teeth. And at the opposite end of the model, Mr. Skeleton’s feet are well-crafted. I particularly like the detail of a distinctly larger hallux, or “big toe,” compared to the rest of the foot. And the use of the robot arms for the metatarsals gives each pedal construction the perfect arch on their underside.

Cooking up a storm in the castle’s kitchen

This cool castle kitchen LEGO build comes from Geneva Durand, and is a revamped version of a previous build. This time around the kitchen has more room for cooking and less cluttered storage. Now the chef and the other cooks can get around quicker and easier for more focus on their cooking. The kitchen appears to be brighter too, despite fewer light sources. Though I imagine part of that is the light color of the castle’s walls and the warm colors of the fireplace. I appreciate the healthier food options found around the kitchen. Between the original build and this new one, the kitchen table is much improved, using a cooler design. I also love the hanging plant in the upper right. It’s always nice to see some greenery involved with interior builds.

Adding Dawson to the Circle

The music scene is filled with countless artists, so deep cuts that overlap LEGO and eclectic artists can be rare. Builder Eero Okkonen recently completed this model of singer-songwriter Richard Dawson to update his past display of the band Circle. It’s no surprise Eero says he had an easy time going about this build, as the black uniform allowed for a great piece selection to maintain uniformity. The main issues he faced were building Richard’s face and hair, which come across delightfully in the final product. Dawson often works his voice from the top to bottom of his range in songs, so it’s wonderful that the models mouth seems to be caught mid-lyric. Other details such as the microphone, guitar, and speaker all add to the immersion of the scene. The only thing I can’t get passed are the skeleton arms as fingers because they just make me think Richard has more little hands at the fingertips. I’m disturbed but curious as to how it would help his guitar playing.

As a personal fan of Richard Dawson myself, this was a delightfully unexpected model to see. Plenty of builders have been covering famous musical artists over the last year, mostly mainstream or rock. This model has me curious about Circle, and pleased at how the process of discovering new music can be just as odd as your taste in tunes.

Johnny Thunder and the jungle shrine

On the heels of some sweet Indiana Jones news earlier this week, it’s a good time to pop in on the ongoing escapades of LEGO’s other, less cross-promotional adventurer: Mr. Johnny Thunder. And no one captures that better than builder Ids de Jong! Here he and his team explore a beautiful jungle pagoda while braving the hazards of a rickety rope bridge. The minifig posing here is spectacular, with one teammate about to take the plunge thanks to a snapped plank. The temple stands in brilliant contrast to the surrounding vegetation, a white monolith among so many earth tones. But the flora itself is the true standout here, utilizing parts both new and old to create a lush landscape atop these cliffs.

This galactic school bus deserves an A+

And while we’re on the subject of space babies, notenoughbricks is making sure these adorable astronauts are getting the education they need to become the galactic explorers of tomorrow. This Neo-Classic rover is one part school bus and one part…well, it’s actually all school bus. But it features plenty of classic space stylings and an automatic stop sign to halt on-coming traffic. The best part is a robot-driven mini-rover that can deploy from the back and make sure all the students get inside the school safely.

A space baby on a mission with with a porpoise

Well, LEGO builder Tim Goddard has just checked pretty much all the boxes that spell The Brothers Brick success. He’s got an adorable baby with a Classic Space onesie, a spaceship shaped like a dolphin, and great parts usage. I think this means we’re contractually obligated to feature it. It says so in the Ancient Doctrines, somewhere in the back. Probably. We simply overload y’all with cuteness, then call it a day. It makes my job easier, really. Thanks, Tim!

Puny meat sacks are no match for this menacing machine

I’ve been watching game footage from Atomic Heart, a shooter set in an alternate timeline where robots designed to be faithful servants of man go on a murdering rampage. This robot by Pohaturon would fit right into that world. Long gangly legs look more than capable of running down any meat sacks on foot or in their pitiful vehicles, and that radar dish can probably detect meat sacks wherever they cower in fear.

Lose yourself in this immersive brick-built workshop

Hasn’t everyone wished for a workshop like Victor van den Berg‘s at some point? I know I have. Unfortunately I still live in a one-bedroom apartment that is becoming rapidly overrun with interlocking plastic bricks. So for now, I’ll have to live vicariously through Victor’s absorbing build. The lighting is super atmospheric, and gives off a vibe of countless quiet evenings spent working on little projects here and there.
