We are coming out of the darkness into the light!

I was a strange little boy, with my LEGO and my stories and my classic black and white movies. One of my favorite films to this day is Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator, from 1940.

Piglet recreates a famous scene in which Charlie Chaplin, as “Adenoid Hynkel,” parodies Adolf Hitler’s ridiculous (and ultimately terrifying) oratory style:

However, I like to think that this is the movie’s final scene, in which the Jewish barber (mistaken for the identical Hynkel) delivers a beautiful speech calling on humanity’s better nature. Here’s one of my favorite passages:

We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another.

In this world there is room for everyone, and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little.

More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.

Party’s on at Noddy’s motorcycle clubhouse

Karwik (Noddy), the guy with the bikes, is throwing a big party at his motorcycle clubhouse, and gosh is the scene lively. Taking back our streets from the LEGO zombie horde

BrickCon is just around the corner. In fact, if you don’t register before September 8th, the price goes up to $60 and you won’t be guaranteed personalized stuff like engraved brick badges.

My contribution to the LEGO Zombie Apocafest display we’re organizing is an auto repair shop and a fire station in a diorama that I’m currently calling “The Outbreak”:

Zombies converge on the residents of my modular buildings as they attempt to fight back. The architecture may have been the focus of my building energies for once, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t neglected some good, old-fashioned minifig action:

Crimson Wolf leads an expedition to Shangri La

Occasionally, a builder will seem to emerge — fully formed, as it were — onto the LEGO scene. Kevin Crimson Wolf Fedde has posted more gorgeous LEGO dioramas in the past two months than I can count, though we here at The Brothers Brick only became aware of Kevin when Nathan posted his Dragon Temple.

In this diorama, a group of explorers attempts to find the legendary Shangri La. Note the blending of the white with the gray and subtle details like the caves:

A slimy, dark green alien invasion (with bonus zombies!!!)

In Kristian‘s imagination, aliens are rather clumsy while landing their flying saucers and aren’t especially known for their hygiene:

The slime is rather amusing, and I can’t help but chuckle at the poor guy who didn’t manage to get out from under the saucer’s landing gear.

While we’re at it, here’s the sort of great zombie scene we’re encouraging Brothers Brick readers to bring to the LEGO Zombie Apocafest at BrickCon in October:

Signs of the coming Invasion!

I’ve jumped on the bandwagon, as we prepare for the Zombie ApocaFest at BrickCon in October. While a sniper and his spotter look for more “targets”, Ricky and Leslie make a break for the safety of the second floor! Will they make it or will the undead feast? You decide!

Wearable Boba Fett costume built from LEGO

I’ve been keeping an eye on Simon‘s LEGO Boba Fett costume project for a while (and yet somehow missed his great LEGO Star Wars minifigs along the way), so I was very pleased to see the completed armor.

This may be the coolest homage ever to the beloved bounty hunter with only ~~two~~ four lines in Empire Strikes Back:

That’s right, Simon has built a complete Boba Fett costume entirely from LEGO (except the jump suit and cape, of course). The outfit includes a helmet, jet pack, chest plate, and blaster. Amazing stuff!

Did they order that “To Go”?

Crimson Wolf serves up a sweet course of zombie action, entitled “Zombie Pursuit”. Remember, never look back, you never know what might be gaining.

Another Sky-Fi legend

Nnenn reminds us with his newest creation that he is still the master of Sky-Fi. What I particularly like about this creation is the enchanting picture below, where the creation is merged with a perfect background.

1912 Ford Model T

edulyoung has built an incredibly detailed Model T. I think my favorite detail is the tires. Awesome.

It doesn’t get any more real in LEGO

Jarek’s (Jerrec) Polish Junak M10 motorcycle is as real as one can get in LEGO. For a small model at roughly only four inches in length, this creation packs in so many realistic details and contains unorthodox building techniques such as using a sticker taped to 1X1 tiles to create the curvature of the fenders. Amazing!

Mommy Rex is very angry...

Mike Psiaki (who is no stranger to being blogged) has built a climatic scene from The Lost World: Jurassic Park that is better than the movie it was based upon!
