San Diego Comic-Con 2018 LEGO Exclusive revealed [News]

Every year LEGO releases exclusives at San Diego Comic-Con and this year is no different. Star Wars themes have always been favourites. It’s back again this year with a build showcase of the cockpit segment of the Millennium Falcon featuring Han Solo and Chewbacca.

Looking at the elements, fans would rejoice as it seems that there are no unique parts to build this on your own. Both Minifigures come from the recent Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (75212). What is unique is the box that’s designed and shaped like a VHS box with line art instead of photorealistic scene. Collectors of boxed sets would certainly want to have this in their collection simply for the uniqueness of that old-school look.

Home of the Brick and Famous

If IKEA ever needs a reference for a builder to lead a creativity department for their recent collaborative announcement with LEGO, I’d nominate Heikki M. in a heartbeat. He has a knack for building and photographing realistic-looking homes that make you take a look at a build twice just to make sure it’s all built with bricks. This particular scene is of a Manor Hall with a grand piano as a central feature. Little details such as the subtle patterns for the cornices give it the subliminal cues of a real home. All we now need is a piano player playing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata to give life to the room.

Finally, the Bugatti Chiron we can afford

I’m a fan of brick engineer Gerald Cacas, especially when he uses his magic sci-fi shrink ray gun. This time the target of his genius skills is none other than the latest Technic Bugatti Chiron. Shrinking it down to a 7-stud configuration while keeping all the details intact is what we all need to complete as a companion to the Speed Champions series.

Iconic landmarks in Singapore transformed into Brick Architectures [Interview]

Initiated by the National Heritage Board (NHB) of Singapore working with local brick artists, a recent project has recreated eight historically significant buildings in Singapore to showcase and remind people of the hidden gems amongst the modern city landscape. The eight showcases were built by Xylvie Wong, Eugene Tan, and Andy Goh and was part of the recent team from UNESCO Piece of Peace brick exhibition.

The Brothers Brick had a chance to speak to the trio, and let them share some insights on their journey and what goes on inside of a builder’s mind while recreating impressive large-scale structures like these.

What do you get when you combine a Stealth Bomber and a ’68 Chevy? The Batmobile.

The original breakthrough that probably made everyone sit up and take notice that a costumed hero could not only make it to the big screen but make it great is Tim Burton’s 1989 film simply titled Batman. The sleek Art Deco-styled car was built with two Chevrolet Impala spliced together and powered with a Chevy V8. Popular Mechanics called this beast the Stealth Bomber with a ’68 Chevy combo. This LEGO built version by Dave Slater is my favourite representation the vehicle that made everyone believe that Michael Keaton could be Batman. It captures all the perfect angles and that sleek look, down to the turbine exhausts and the Rolls Royce Turbine hub front center.

Build your very own Red Hot Chevrolet Camaro [Instructions]

I’ve fallen in love with Camaro muscle cars ever since I first saw the updated version of the Transformer Bumblebee was brought to the big screen. This one’s not a mechanical life-form in disguise, but builder hachiroku24 has done quite good with the limited scale of this a red-hot car, and has even provided instructions. It will definitely be one to add to your car brick garage if you can gather the pieces to put it together.

Seraph the Cyborg Angel comes to life

Builder Eero Okkonen is a master of bringing characters to life in brick form. This construct is of Do-It-Yourself-Seraph, a character from the Magic: The Gathering game. I must admit the concept of having a Cyborg Angel as a gameplay character is quite an appealing combination. I love the technique of the windswept hair and downcast gaze giving the character a solemn and thoughtful appearance. Builders who choose to work with only LEGO elements have their challenges, especially for creating unusual characters like this, but it’s always helpful to be able to reach into Technic and Bionicle as Eero has done. If those wings look familiar to you, that’s because the came off a set from The Lord of the Rings theme, Pirate Ship Ambush (79008).

Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas are the latest addition to the BrickHeadz lineup [News]

Brickheadz releases are on a roll with LEGO recently. We now have Jack Skellington and Sally from Tim Burton’s Nightmare before Christmas in the lineup. While there isn’t any release date announced just yet, we expect the price to be consistent with the other double pack sets at $19.99. Will this be part of your must-haves? Ralph’s gone Turbo!

Wreck-It Ralph was one of those movies that did pretty well and I thought was a great story but somehow wasn’t very memorable in the long run, for me at least. Seeing YOS Brick’s build certainly jogged my mind indeed and reignited some of the memories of Ralph going rogue (aka gone Turbo!) and with the new sequel coming up, we get two of the main characters in BrickHeadz form: Vanellope and Ralph. Well, Ralph isn’t strictly a BrickHeadz; he’s more the appropriate extended form, or to coin a new phrase: a Big Brickheadz, perhaps?

For the love of a man who will not see his country go down

What seemingly looks like a build of a loving elderly couple is more than meets the eye. This LEGO creation by Vincent Kiew is a living legend with his supportive wife. Tun Dr. Mahathir refused to let his country of Malaysia down and came out of retirement at a ripe old age with his supporting wife Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah by his side. So here’s the story that’s fit for a movie script just waiting to be made.

Shouldn’t Fire Trucks be called Water Trucks?

This is not just any fire truck, but one modelled after the real-life Scania P410 Fire Truck. The build also features a fully functional boom and extended supports for stabilisation. I like how in absence of the Brick Arch Mudguard elements for the wheels, Builder Robson M still manages to pull off a great looking alternative.
