A Tale of Two Kings That Croaked, by Remyth

Building well runs in the Wunz family. Like his brother Chris, Thomas Wunz mainly builds castle creations, and it’s always a pleasure to spend time looking through all the details in Thomas’s medieval farms, mines, monasteries, and so on.

Thomas’s latest vignettes (entries for the Classic-Castle.com Storytelling Contest) don’t disappoint those looking for interesting details.

Be sure to check out the full photoset on Flickr so you can find out for yourself why the title of these vigs is so clever.

Buy LEGO: 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer on clearance at LEGO Shop

Okay, I think this is mildly noteworthy, since it means the Imperial Star Destroyer™ is going away forever soon, but it also gives me an excuse to remind our loyal readers that running Brothers-Brick.com isn’t free, and your help is always very much appreciated. ;-)

If that’s not your thing, how about some of the following lovely products?

Castle-themed Cafe Corner and Market Street

Brickshelf user Kris1234 has shows us what the popular Cafe Corner and Market Street LEGO sets would look like in the older ages. It looks like civilization hasn’t progressed all that much, great semblance!

Rocko battles it out on a bridge

The thing I like so much about Rocko’s LEGO creations is all the whimsical touches. His latest castle creation pits the new Crown Knights against the skeleton horde, with air support from a very hungry dragon.

In addition to the whimsy, we have several interesting building techniques; check out those boats and barrels that aren’t just sitting on the surface of the water.

Spinning threads of death through lives of mortal men

Harrison (aka “Corran101”) submits four epic entries to the CC vig contest — vignettes inspired by Homer’s Odyssey.

Our hero Odysseus has many adventures. In no particular order (go read the book!), he battles the sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis, rides a sheep out of a cave, does a bit of feasting with Circe, and fires an arrow through some axe handles.

Check out more pics in Harrison’s photoset on Flickr.

Toy Fair 2008 reveals late 2008 LEGO sets [News]

Toy Fair 2008 is approaching and there have been pictures of the late 2008 sets circulating on the web. I found Joe Meno with some of the first pictures of themes including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Speed Racer, Bionicle, and Batman.

Update (AB): Ace Kim also has extensive pictures from Toy Fair 2008, nicely organized into photosets with lots of great details — prices, release dates, etc.:

Drawbridge Castle

By now, anyone who’s seen the stream of Rocko‘s latest works knows that he’s a super builder, capable of crafting excellently large castle dioramas in a very short time of days. His most recent work is another grand variation of the castle theme with two classic-looking towers connected by a stunning drawbridge. Of course, Rocko adds his signature touch with female minifigs.

Aaron Andrews will haul away your corpses

The Classic-Castle.com Vignette Storytelling Contest kicked off at the beginning of this month, and sets of four vigs are popping up all over the place.

Aaron Andrews‘ vigs are inspired by one of my favorite moments in the Monty Python canon — “Bring out your dead!”

(“I’m not dead!”)

Dwarfs, orcs, hobbits, and more bathing babes

Surely, this can only be the work of Rocko. Check out his latest castle diorama. In addition to the round towers and the neat hobbit hole, this scene has an underground section full of surprising details.

Ultimate LEGO Castle Chess Set [News]

UPDATE: The LEGO Castle Giant Chess Set
icon will be available for pre-order from the LEGO Shop on July 1. No release date has been announced yet.

Some people know where to look for leaked pictures of upcoming sets, and many times great treasures are dug up in lego.com’s cache (the specific procedures are still a mystery to me, but I think it involves manipulating image url’s). Check out the upcoming castle chess set, complete with just about everything and probably including a big price tag too.
