Sandwood Town Shootout

I’m not really sure if this ruined town of Sandwood has anything valuable in the bank, but Deadeye Bill and his gang wants to give it a “shot” anyway. General Magma masterfully creates this action scene with smoking guns and also includes a little story on the side. Facial expressions of the figures are very carefully selected and body movements are just perfectly arranged. Blood splatter on the sheriff and the collapsed wall on the left building turn out to be nice finishing touches.

“Deadeye Bill and his gang were at it again. The most notorious gang known to Sandwood Town came to snatch up a couple of sacks o’ gold at the local bank, as usual. ‘Not if I got somethin’ to say bout that’, Sheriff Dave must’ve said, before gettin’ shot down by Leroy “the Gambler”, one of Bill’s fellow outlaws. Cold as a wagon tire. And the other one, Dynamite Juan “the Mexican”, was just shootin’ away at it. This robbery committed by three dodgasted chuckleheads soon became one of the bloodiest shootouts ever seen by this rottin’ little town…”

Zen and the art of Tachikoma maintenance

I want to go skateboard after I make a few deliveries on my motorcycle. But first I’ve got to polish a cute blue robot with this eye-catching red towel. Good thing I’ve got plenty of tools and a lovely fluorescent light fixture. There’s a lot of detail in this small space, but it doesn’t feel cluttered or claustrophobic. Room to breathe, room to work, room to drop things down the grating in the floor. This mechanic diorama from Ted Andes is part of a month-long theme of four-legged robots who probably just barely fit through the sliding door.

Does this girl ring a bell for you?

I’m not sure what is delayice‘s secret, but ordinary bricks and slopes in his hands assume some extreme degree of cuteness. And even that creepy girl from the horror classic The Ring is crawling just to give you a hug and cuddle with you. Amazingly enough, the structure of the model is so simple and clear that anyone can repeat it by examining the picture. Thus, it’s another beautiful example of how great combinations of just a handful of pieces can be the best illustration of a builder’s talent.

Futuron walker tank inbound

Christopher Bassett‘s walker tank/rover looks to suit the needs of Futuron explorers. I enjoy treaded quadrupeds, especially this one where the exposed mechanical bits in the treads complement the slick cabin and body. While I myself am not nostalgic for many space themes pre-Exploriens, as they were before my time, Christopher’s rover is a great build to carry the Futuron colors.

ABS APC is A-OK

If you’re feeling the need for some chunky near-future military hardware, Carter Baldwin has you covered. A delicious blend of dangerous angles, muddy colors, and isolated studs for texture give this Armored Personnel Carrier a real sense of grunt. I can just imagine this thing’s engine noise.

Accurate LEGO Mayflower will teach you about the famous voyage

This extraordinary LEGO Mayflower was built by kaitain for Warren Elsmore’s new book, Brick History. The ship is gorgeous (especially those sails!), but what really makes this build stand out is the incredibly detailed map-like base that the ship floats on. Inside the circle, you’ll find the shorelines of Europe, Africa, and North America. Also, there’s a compass, a school of fish, a whale’s tail fin, and of course, ocean water, which is made up of 22,000 tiny translucent blue dots.

Furthermore, each of the base’s four corners depicts a different scene related to the Mayflower’s journey. The northeastern corner shows the Mayflower loading supplies in London. The southeastern corner shows the Mayflower and leaky Speedwell leaving Dartmouth for their second attempt at the crossing. The southwestern corner shows the landing in Cape Cod and the northwestern corner (my favorite) shows the Plymouth colony.

Who ya gonna call on a tiny phone?

Can’t afford the new LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ set? Never fear. Take a leaf out of ObedientMachine‘s book and build yourself a teeny-tiny microscale version. Immediately recognisable, this is a smart little build. I particularly like the small lintel sticking out above the side door. It’s touches like that which make all the difference in a microscale model.

I’ve built some microscale LEGO Ghostbusters myself in the past. I wish my little Ecto-1 had had this firehouse to return home to.

Moon rover suffers from terrible emissions

Although Jon Blackford calls this creation an Eco Rover, its unusual fuel source raises doubts regarding its environmental credentials. Genetically modified cows? Kept in a hermetically sealed dome and encouraged to produce methane? Doesn’t sound very green to me!

However, regardless of ethical and environmental issues, it’s a lovely model. I can imagine herds of these pottering about an airless planet’s surface, pumping methane out to create a runaway greenhouse effect.

Whilst the star of the show is the cow in the rear, the color scheme and greebly details rock. The rover’s cockpit is pretty cool too — check out that chair…

Come in, take a seat

Check out this fabulous LEGO armchair from Simplybrickingit. The plump upholstery looks incredibly inviting, and the coordinated cushion is a lovely touch.

It’s good to see well-executed scale models of everyday objects. It reminds you that LEGO creativity isn’t limited to Space and cars and planes and steampunk and Castle and trains and mechs and…
Actually, LEGO creativity isn’t limited at all. But this remains a sweet little model all the same.

Fortress city is a desert jewel

Greg Dlx brings us a fabulous desert city, with a beautiful set of gates in an impressive wall. The color scheme catches the eye, but it’s the details evoking the architecture of the Middle East which encourage you to look closer. The sand dunes created with curved tan pieces are also a lovely touch.

When opened, the gates allow access to a nicely-built section of the city itself. I like the way the stables and other buildings follow the curve of the main wall.

After our recent post mentioning a relative lack of Islamic-style architecture in LEGO, this answers the brief. Let’s see even more of this kind of building please.

Old-school classroom is a classy build

Time for a building lesson from LegoJalex. His 80s-era school classroom model is just fantastic. From the blackboard, through the TV on a trolley, to the overhead projector and pull-down screen – the details are immediately recognisable to anyone who went to school before the digital age.

The pictures on the walls, the bags with books, and the caps hanging on chair backs – these all create the impression of a peaceful classroom about to be invaded by noisy kids fresh from the playground break. Check out some of the nice little building touches too – the horns as pieces of chalk, and the grille tiles for bunched up curtains. Beautiful stuff.

Make Donald Drumpf (and LEGO) again

Here in South Africa politicians are a joke. While you may be shouting at me stating that it’s the same in your country, did your president ever state that showering after sex lowers the chance of contracting HIV? Did your health minister need a liver transplant after heavy drinking? Did you have a finance minister who was in office for a total of four days?

All that said, let me tell you, Donald ~~Trump~~ Drumpf is still a real joke of a politician. The rest of the world is looking in shock as he continues to gain popularity and we’re legitimately scared of him becoming president of the United States.

To mark these trying times, SuckMyBrick brings us this recreation of the loudmouth. Uncanny, isn’t it?
