It’s generally considered poor taste to keep a god’s gift for yourself, as Minos found out. In the event you find yourself step-parent to a half-man, half-beast like the Minotaur, please be sure to keep your local architect on call to build an emergency labyrinth, if necessary.
W. Navarre gives us this glorious bust of the Minotaur. I like the sculpting and the aggressive horns. The face shows the proper amount of anger at its imprisonment in the labyrinth.
Today’s post is best enjoyed with a little bit of music. I’m sure builders Lino and Tim will appreciate the musical selection.
Lino and Tim have teamed up to bring us a pair of stylin’ rides that all of us hope to never be in. If you’re going to be in an ambulance or a hearse, wouldn’t you like them to be as awesome as these two?
Lino’s contribution is the 1931 Ford Delivery Ambulance, affectionately called the Flatline Ford. I have full confidence that traffic will move over when they see this bad boy coming after them.
From Tim, we have our 1967 Cadillac Hearse. I think “Hell’s Bells” is awfully appropriate for this beast. This hearse will deliver the goods regardless of how far or hard to reach the final resting place might be. I absolutely love the hood ornament!
The Fifth Element sits squarely in my top five sci-fi films of all time. I absolutely love the characters and world that’s been created. Priovit70 has crafted this fabulous fly-in retro hot-dog stand that looks like Corbin Dallas may have swung by on more than one occasion, depending on how many points were on his license that day. I like to believe he took Leeloo there and she was less than impressed.
It’s colorful, it’s got character, and there’s a great story going on with this place.
Dwalin Forkbeard is on a mission to make Warhammer-style builds based on the short and stout race of Dwarves. We’ve already featured the gyrocopter , but we have two more great builds today.
First up is an organ gun based on this model kit. I’m sure you’ll agree that this is just about as good as it can get at this scale.
But if you want more scale, the “Gates of Barak Azril” build is what you need to see. While it is just a fascia for now, I’m desperately hoping it gets expanded upon.
We should have posted this remarkable brick-built fish by Daniel Stoeffler on April first, but we didn’t sea it until now. Better late than never right? I’m stunned by the life-like nature of this little guy. The exposed LEGO studs make excellent scales and the overall striped patterns and color blocking on the fish’s body and fins are gorgeous. He even has a soft underbelly and whiskers!
But what’s the joke you ask? Well, as Daniel explains it, on April first in France, children play pranks on others by placing paper fish on their backs and then running away shouting “Poisson d’Avril!” I don’t get it either, but it sounds hilarious.
Regardless of your opinion of the most recent movie adaptation, The Hobbit is a timeless adventure story that has stood the test of time. The idea of gaining the courage to leave home and embark on a grand adventure is the very idea that makes the world go round. It’s the idea that inspires adventure, inspires discovery, and creates stories for the next generation.
Noel Peterson has illustrated that moment of courage, of letting go, of leaving as Bilbo races across the bridge toward his destiny. The bridge has the perfect, aged, well-worn look, with life going on as two hobbits fish in the murky water. I like the story this build tells.
It is not often that I associate the word “adorable” with a forklift truck, but mahjqa has built a forklift truck that fits the description perfectly. Bonus points go to the builder for using my favourite Medium Azure colour for the body of this fully functional forklift truck. It’s compact, but packs a lot of power into such a small package.
More importantly than looks, those forks really can lift! Mhajqa demonstrates this perfectly in his compelling video of the little LEGO forklift busy at work.
As an aside, you will see many palletized goods in the video that are fantastic builds in their own right and are worth a closer look.
Minifigures are all the rage now, but back in the day, if you wanted to infringe upon play with an unobtainable license, you had to build it yourself with small colorful pieces called ‘LEGO bricks’. Sure, they might lack the pizzazz that minifigures have (nothing beats non-bendable knees!), but with the right techniques, they easily become more enjoyable. With that in mind, builder delayice has constructed some cute pairs from our second favorite (after LEGO) big brother company, Disney.
Although LEGO bricks and plates are regular symmetrical figures, rarely do we come across creations based on perfect geometry. Hanging Gardens by Letranger Absurde is a modest architectural masterpiece built around harmony and symmetry. Because of the fact that the model was photographed at 45 degrees angle and all the surfaces are carefully tiled, it looks totally like a level from the Monument Valley video game. Bonus points are for falling water: the building technique is brilliant, especially the use of Mixels tooth bricks as water foam.
Oh nobu_tary, one day you’ll stop making awesome robots and creatures, but today is not that today. Yes folks, we have another entry from a builder we regularly cover, but sometimes I can’t help myself.
Today’s build is a knight of the mythological variety that makes great use of Constraction and Bionicle pieces. I’m continually imprssed by this system which grew out of Hero Factory in my dark ages, because you get builds like this out of it.

The amazing world of Harry Potter is only made more fantastic when portrayed through tiny LEGO vignettes. When we first spotted Marcel V.‘s series of astounding little Harry Potter scenes, he’d only created 5. He’s created them as a personal project to challenge himself throughout the month of March, producing almost one every day, and he’s now reached 27. Marcel tells us he worked 3-4 hours daily to create the scenes, and relied on inspiration from the books, movies, and even some Harry Potter games.
