I love me a good micro build, especially from the Star Wars franchise. This microscale T-47 speeder is one build that seems like it was transformed by a magical miniaturisation ray-gun that hit the 75144 UCS Snowspeeder. This makes me feel like building a bunch of these just to take down an AT-AT. Well, wait no more, because here are the engineering plans graciously shared by Rebel leader Jme Wheeler.

I’ve always loved LEGO microscale building. It’s all about challenging yourself as a builder to find the simplest and smallest expression of something that remains immediately recognisable. Whilst not exactly regular “microscale building”, I set myself the same challenge with these creations, trying to depict iconic characters in a “minimalist domino” style, using as few pieces and colours as possible. I thought the heroes of the Rebellion would make for an appropriate line-up and I’m pleased with how they turned out…
Once I started building in this style I just couldn’t stop — it’s fun, but surprisingly challenging to capture the essence of well-known characters in so few pieces.

Powell’s Books is the world’s largest independent bookstore, and I’ve been buying books from Powell’s in Portland my whole life. It’s rare that a LEGO set on its own serves as a major spoiler for a movie. From the now-classic Indiana Jones sets to Jurassic World sets more recently, LEGO sets provide characters, vehicles, and locations without revealing much more than a character’s name. But 75201 First Order AT-ST reveals several fundamental plot points of a major scene late in the movie. The set includes 370 pieces with 4 minifigures. Beyond just our usual criteria of design and value, is the set worth the spoilers?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been out in theaters for nearly a month, so we’re circling back to some of the LEGO sets released to support the movie. 75200 Ahch-To Island Training retails for $29.99 (US) with 241 pieces and features Luke Skywalker, Rey, and a porg.

But thanks God brick-built LEGO tauntaun smells of nothing but the finest ABS plastic. Robert Lundmark surprises us with this bodacious statuette of one of the most famous creatures of the Star Wars universe, and there’s so much awesome about it.

Naboo is an idyllic world close to the border of the Outer Rim Territories in the fictional Star Wars world. It is a peaceful place inhabited by humans, called the Naboo, and an indigenous amphibian species called the Gungans. Protecting their home is essential, and the Naboo Starfighter is the sleek craft that patrols the sky and space above Naboo. Thanks to these instructions by Justin Chua, you can build your own microscale Naboo Starfighter, resplendent in its classic yellow and grey colours.
Definitely there are not many reasons to visit Tatooine, but watching a beautiful podracer like this one by Inthert in action is totally worth booking a seat at Mos Espa Grand Arena. My favorite piece of the pod’s design would be multiple use of yellow minifig snowshoes, which are used to create front winglets. And, of course, a very simple piece of Tatooine’s landscape beneath the pod is an amazing way to make a still model look very dynamic.
The iconic Star Wars TIE Fighter is a frequent subject for LEGO creations — both in official sets and fan-built models. Each iteration and interpretation is unique, but this TIE by Jerac may be one of the most detailed renditions I’ve seen. Familiar with the craft from countless hours of enjoying Star Wars films and games, it appears to me that no detail on Jerac’s model is out of place. Even little touches weren’t overlooked, such as the red dots and hexagonal hole in the rear of the cockpit.

The Empire Strikes Back was released back in 1980 and is still one of the most popular Star Wars films to date. Josephine Monterosso has captured the likeness of two of the main characters from the movie, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, as BrickHeadz. Each character has some great little details to enjoy that are a step beyond the official Brickheadz style, but there are no rules when it comes to building your own characters. Luke’s flak vest with its tubing is a lovely touch and, along with the helmet and visor, really makes this character recognisable.
Han Solo’s fur-lined hood works well with simply some studs on show to give texture. I love the use of a palisade brick to give the clinched-in appearance to his parka waist — it really adds some flair.

When The Empire Strikes Back first premiered in 1980, Star Wars fans of every age had their collective minds blown when the AT-AT first marched across the snowy battlefield of Hoth. Since that day, the AT-AT has surely become one of the most referenced vehicles in Star Wars, with the possible exception of the Millenium Falcon. Tim Goddard has put together a LEGO creation intended to show the AT-AT in relation to the new AT-M6 featured in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and in doing so, has achieved a highly detailed, accurate depiction that stands out very nicely. I especially like the use of tiles of many sizes to achieve a paneled look, including a few headlight bricks to pop some tiles out.
Looking at the underside and leg assembly shows a particular attention to detail and captures the complicated mechanical nature of this unique vehicle.
