LEGO Batman Movie 70916 The Batwing [Review]

Besides bringing some of the most hilarious Batman adventures to the big screen, The LEGO Batman Movie also teased us with a glimpse of an enormous collection of Bat-vehicles stored in Bruce Wayne’s basement. It’s sad we didn’t get a chance to see a Bat-Space Shuttle or a Bat-kayak in action, but some other loveable gems of the collection are already in toy stores. 70916 The Batwing, with 1,053 pieces, is just 400 pieces smaller than the gigantic 70916 The Ultimate Batmobile, and retails at $89.99, which makes it the second largest set of the summer wave.

LEGO Ninjago 70623 Destiny’s Shadow [Review]

The LEGO Ninjago Movie and the new 2017 Ninjago sets that will accompany the film are set to release this September. To tide ourselves over until then, let’s take a look at Set 70623: Destiny’s Shadow which was released earlier this year.

The set retails for $29.99 and has 360 pieces. Considering the $0.10 per piece pricing many LEGO fans have come to expect, Destiny’s Shadow actually comes in below the expected price range. Additionally, the set currently has a 4.8 out of 5 stars review on Amazon (courtesy of five, yes five, total reviewers who either bought the set for their son or their grandson). Not bad!

Joachim Klang and Alex Jones are a duo of builders well known within the LEGO community, and their creations have appeared on The Brothers Brick numerous times. Now they’ve got a new book to share some of their techniques: Tips for Kids – Transformers: Cool Projects for Your LEGO® Bricks. Off for adventure with LEGO City 60161 Jungle Exploration Site [Review]

The last few years, the inhabitants of LEGO City have been on quite the adventure, exploring the ocean, the arctic, and erupting volcanoes; this year is no exception, as they’re diving deep into the jungle. We picked up a copy of the largest set to explore for ourselves, since we wanted to check out the new pieces (jaguar!), as well as experience the new setting for one of LEGO’s longest running themes. 60161 Jungle Exploration Site has 813 pieces, and retails for $119.99

LEGO Star Wars 75180 Rathtar Escape [Review]

After Rey and Finn escape Jakku in the Millennium Falcon rather than a Quadjumper, they get captured by the massive Eravana. Once aboard Han & Chewie’s new freighter, much adventure ensues. Complementing the minifig selection in the 75105 Millennium Falcon from the release of The Force Awakens in 2015 (with Kanjiklub gang members), 75180 Rathtar Escape depicts the confrontation between our plucky heroes and the Guavian death gang while attempting to escape loosed rathtars.

LEGO Star Wars 75167 Bounty Hunter Speeder Bike Battle Pack [Review]

Since before the dawn of time, bounty hunters have been some of the most popular side characters in the Star Wars franchise, with Boba Fett and his iconic Slave I leading the pack. In The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader assembles a motley crew of bounty hunters aboard his Star Destroyer, commissioning them to hunt down the Rebels. 75167 Bounty Hunter Speeder Bike Battle Pack brings together four of the six bounty hunters in a single set under $15.

LEGO Star Wars 75178 Jakku Quadjumper [Revew]

In Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens, as Rey and Finn try to escape Jakku, they run toward a parked spacecraft with four enormous engines, only to have it blown up by First Order TIE fighters. The vehicle, a Subpro Quadrijet transfer space-tug (or “Quadjumper”), never leaves the ground and only appears in the film for about three seconds. Nevertheless, here we are 18 months after the release of the movie with the LEGO Star Wars set 75178 Jakku Quadjumper, which includes 457 pieces with 5 minifigs and retails for $49.99.

We first saw the LEGO Quadjumper in person at Toy Fair in New York back in February, and the set is part of the summer 2017 wave of LEGO Star Wars sets.

LEGO Speed Champions 75877 Mercedes-AMG GT3 [Review]

One of the LEGO Speed Champions cars released earlier this year that we overlooked — perhaps distracted by the truly awesome 2016 Ford GT & 1966 Ford GT40 (my favorite Speed Champions set yet) — was 75877 Mercedes-AMG GT3. Before we dig into reviews of the summer 2017 LEGO sets, let’s catch up with this speedy little roadster.

The LEGO Batman Movie’s The Ultimate Batmobile 70917 [Review]

Even though The LEGO Batman Movie has been in theaters since February, LEGO Batman is back this summer with a whole new wave of sets. Many of the sets this time around feature some of the more spoiler-ish elements of the movie, but nothing that will ruin the movie if you haven’t yet seen it. The flagship of this wave is 70917 The Ultimate Batmobile, which we got our first look at in February at the New York Toy Fair. It’s a massive creation from the film’s turning point that features a Batmobile, Bat-Tank, Batcycle, and Batwing all joined into a rolling fortress for Batman and his cohort. By far the largest of The LEGO Batman Movie sets, The Ultimate Batmobile has 1,456 pieces and will retail for $129.99 USD and should be available June 1.

The set includes 8 minifigures, along with a light-up Batsignal.

LEGO Ideas 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V – you are go for launch! [Review]

The Saturn V moon rocket is a masterpiece of engineering and remains the largest rocket ever successfully launched. Between 1967 and 1973, thirteen rockets left earth, taking us to the moon and building Skylab, the United States’ first space station. So it’s fitting that LEGO Ideas 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V is the largest Ideas set produced to date, clocking in at a massive 1,969 pieces in an homage to Apollo 11. When countdown ends and the rocket set launches on June 1, 2017, it will retail for $119.99. Included is the Saturn V rocket in three stages, the command and service module, lunar lander, and command module with floatation device.

Free LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 The Milano 30449 mini set [Review]

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hit theaters last week, and although LEGO’s tie-in line of sets has been available for a little while, they’re still doing something special to mark the occasion. From now until May 19, if you buy over $35 of LEGO from the LEGO Shop Online or a LEGO store, you’ll get the nifty little mini set 30449 The Milano as a free bonus. It’s got an MSRP of $3.99 USD and has 64 pieces.

It’s a tiny set, but still fun, so we thought we’d give it a review.

LEGO Nexo Knights 70349 Ruina’s Lock & Roller [Review]

If you’re in the market for a small LEGO set with fun colors and minifigures that look as equally at home in space as they do in a medieval castle, look no further than Ruina’s Lock & Roller [70349]. This set retails for $19.99 USD, but is currently on sale on Amazon for $15.99. It has 208 pieces, with the primary feature being a substantially sized vehicle called Ruina’s Lock & Roller (hence, the name of the set). The roller is essentially castle dungeon on wheels drawn by a GargoBike rather than a team of horses. Along with the gargoyle-inspired carriage, this set also includes three minifigures and two NEXO Power Shields (Gorilla Roar and Forbidden Power Wrecking Wrath) which are scannable and provide power-ups in the LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS game.
