LEGO Batman 76240 Batmobile Tumbler: Scratching that seven year itch [Review]

Back in the dim history of 2014, LEGO released set 76023 The Tumbler, a UCS-scaled rendition of the Batmobile from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Now, seven years later, LEGO returns with an updated version to tempt a new generation of Bat-Fans. The 2049 piece Batman 76240 Batmobile Tumbler will be available November 1st from the LEGO Shop Online for US $229.99 | CAN $329.99 | UK £209.99. Hands on with LEGO Creator Expert 10294 Titanic, a 9,000-piece ship more than 4 feet long [Review]

The upper boundary for the size of LEGO sets has been steadily rising for the last decade as the company increasingly courts the attention of adult fans with broader interests and deeper pockets than the toy’s traditional audience. When the Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series 75192 Millennium Falcon arrived in 2017, it set a new high watermark with a whopping 7,541 pieces. That record has since been broken several times. LEGO’s latest venture into the open waters of adult collector pieces comes in the form of the world’s most iconic ship, one whose name is synonymous with its monumental place in history. 10294 Titanic doesn’t quite get the top slot on the part-count hall of fame (that record goes to 31203 World Map mosaic from earlier this year) but at more than 4 feet in length and 9,090 pieces, it’s the largest traditional LEGO model of all time. It features a detailed exterior and segments of the lavish interior. The monstrous ship launches next month, and will set you back US $629.99 | CAN $799.99 | UK £569.99 when it’s available Nov. 1.

LEGO Ninjago 71750 Lloyd’s Hydro Mech – This underwater mech will do in a pinch [Review]

One of my favorite movie trope mashups is when giant mechs do their fighting underwater. That’s why I was so excited when the latest wave of Ninjago sets, Seabound, came out. The first one I purchased was 71750 Lloyd’s Hydro Mech, a low-cost way to scratch that Pacific Rim itch while I contemplated the more expensive offerings. And, because I’m apparently addicted to writing LEGO set reviews, I waited to build it until I could share it here with you. Getting a LEGO makeover with Creator Expert 10291 Queer Eye – The Fab 5 Loft [Review]

In 2003, a bold new reality TV show was making major waves. Originally called Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, it followed five gay men as they provided a full lifestyle makeover to straight guys in need of a fresh take. After a massively popular start, the focus on only heterosexual males was dropped. Eventually the show ran its course, but as you may already know, Netflix rebooted Queer Eye in 2018 with an entirely new “Fab 5” cast. Even more successful than the original, it has now won multiple Emmy awards. The creative, playful show seeks to celebrate love, expression, and acceptance, not only for others, but yourself as well. Its values are echoed by the LEGO Group, which decided to honor the series with LEGO Creator Expert 10291 Queer Eye – The Fab 5 Loft. Joining a growing subtheme of TV-based sets, this is the first reality show appearance.

LEGO 40478: Mini Disney Castle is a magical miniature [Review]

When LEGO releases big sets, it is not long before someone comes up with a miniature model to satisfy builders with a more modest budget. Sometimes LEGO even releases microscale versions of their own sets, like the microscale modulars. Well, if you have been craving the huge Disney castle set, but have not talked yourself into spending big money to pick it up, your dreams are about to come true with the upcoming set from LEGO, 40478 Mini Disney castle, which will include 567 pieces and will be available starting October 1st for US $34.99 | CAN $44.99 | UK £30.99

LEGO Marvel Eternals 76145, 76154, 76155, and 76156 – All the Eternals movie sets in one big lump, just how you like ’em. [Review]

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been pretty tightly organized, but the past couple of years have seen a lot of shuffling when it comes to movie release schedules. Case in point: the Eternals. Originally slated for a November 2020 release, it was pushed back all the way to November of this year. That bump had an interesting effect on the film’s tie-in merchandise – LEGO was ready to release four sets, and already had them listed in their December 2020 catalog. Ultimately, those sets were never made available for sale, just sitting there as one of the bigger pre-release spoilers. That is, until now. Starting October 1st, we’ll be able to add the following to our shopping carts:

LEGO Marvel Eternals 76155: In Arishem’s Shadow – Not your typical space god. [Review]

Normally when LEGO and Marvel team up to offer sets related to an upcoming film, they go to great lengths to keep things under wraps until they can arrange for a big reveal. It’s just smart marketing. Unfortunately, the past couple of years haven’t been great for plans working out as intended.

Back in December of 2020, LEGO sent out a catalog showcasing four sets based around the upcoming Eternals movie…a movie that had been slated to be in cinemas in November of that year. But, thanks to Covid, that film was shelved until November of 2021. The sets were not released, never made it onto LEGO.com, and probably just sat in a warehouse somewhere…waiting. Until now. LEGO Marvel Eternals 76155: In Arishem’s Shadow will (finally) be available October 1st for

LEGO Marvel Eternals 76156: Rise of the Domo – The triangle to end all triangles [Review]

Although we don’t know a lot about the plot of the upcoming Marvel Eternals movie, we do know a bit about some toy tie-ins. Back in December of 2020, four sets were revealed in the winter LEGO catalog, presumably due to the film’s original November 2020 release date. But Covid had other plans, and the Eternals movie was delayed until November of 2021. So LEGO held off on making the sets available for sale…until now, that is. LEGO Marvel Eternals 76156: Rise of the Domo will be available from the LEGO Shop Online starting October 1st for US $89.99 | CAN $119.99 | UK £89.99. This is the largest set in the wave, with 1040 pieces including six Eternals minifigures. Has this set been worth the extended wait? LEGO Creator Expert 77942 Fiat 500 limited edition comparison: blue is the new yellow [Review]

A few weeks ago, LEGO announced that they were running a trial in the UK to test variants of a few popular sets, altering their sizes or colors. The flagship model of this program is an update on last year’s Creator Expert 10271 Fiat 500, which overhauls the car’s light yellow to a light blue. The new set receives a new number, and 77942 Fiat 500 is sold from now until Nov. 30 through LEGO’s website in the UK (£74.99) or through retailer Zavvi. Unlike LEGO’s UK site, Zavvi does ship outside the UK, briefly allowing fans elsewhere in the world to get the set, though the first stock of Zavvi’s sets appears to have sold out and Zavvi has taken down the listing. LEGO has said that since it’s part of a trial program, once the set is sold out, it will not be available again. Today we’re taking a brief look at how the new blue Fiat compares to the yellow version we reviewed last year.
