Here at The Brothers Brick, we talk a lot about exceptional LEGO part usage. But this usually exists at a fairly small scale, about a specific detail in a larger build. On the rare occasion, though, a builder will take the most awkward piece and manage to fit it expertly into their creation. And Djokson has done just that with several large turf pieces from the soccer subtheme of LEGO Town that existed back in the early aughts. They make up the torso and arms of this mono-green mech, even leveraging the sliding mechanism built into the goalie’s 8×16 chunk of pitch for a front-facing weapon. This robot isn’t all over the field, so much as the field is all over it!

I was just in the neighborhood when...
When I reviewed the official LEGO Old Trafford- Manchester United set I had surmised (maybe wrongfully) that only non-American sports fans would be into it. What I like…scratch that…what I love more than being right about anything is when a LEGO set sparks the imagination of a new builder. Suwon’s Blue Star is one such builder. When I say new, I mean there isn’t a single photo in their Flickr stream older than February 11th. What we are witnessing, dear reader is a builder who has clearly been inspired by the recent Manchester United set and, like a sleeper agent suddenly brought to life, has found a profound purpose. Not only have they masterfully rendered a micro version of the famous stadium but its entire surrounding Old Trafford neighborhood as well.

Are you ready for some football?
Diamond Dave Shaddix hopes you are, and he’s ready to get you in the mood with this outstanding sculpture of an Arizona Cardinal’s helmet. Lucky Dave was commissioned by the NFL franchise to build both the helmet and a mosaic for the upcoming season. While it doesn’t quite match the cool-factor of Dave’s other high-vis commission from world-famous illusionist David Copperfield, it is impressive nonetheless.
Although the dome-protector won't save you from concussions, it is quite wearable. If you want to check out the helmet, sans Dave, it will be ensconced in the Arizona Cardinals HQ in Tempe.
