LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes 2018 to be presented at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 — The three new medium-sized sets will feature some of our favorite heroes, like Superman and Wonder Woman, as well as characters that have never been released as LEGO minifigures before.

Prepare for impact! Full power!

Talented Canadian builder Simon Liu confesses his love for the majestic Star Destroyers of the Star Wars universe by recreating an episode of the final battle from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story where two of them, well, are being destroyed. With numerous debris torn off the ship’s surface, this unusual diorama is much more complicated than just two starships colliding. The way each piece is connected creates a strong illusion that every part of this scene is actually floating in open space above Scarif.

And, of course, here is the hero of the battle — a small Hammerhead corvette pushing one of the Destroyers towards its certain doom. And it’s impossible to ignore Simon’s keen eye to details with an edge of the Destroyer’s body being actually crushed by the Hammerhead.

The strength to stand alone is the strength to make a stand. To serve a purpose greater than yourself.

Modern video games, even the most violent ones, are fantastic sources of inspiration. Clearly, Marcel V. agrees, as his most recent LEGO creation springs straight from the beautiful world of Horizon Zero Dawn. Marcel nicely captured the unique art style of the game. The crumbling bridge with exposed rebar is especially eye-catching, the robot beast is menacingly cute, and Aloy (and her brick-built bow) are perfection!

If Marcus’s gorgeous creation hasn’t sated your hunger for video game scenes built out of LEGO, how about devouring a few more for dessert? Check out Abernathy Farm and the Red Rocket Refuelling Station from Fallout 4, a slice of the apocalypse from The Last of Us, and Impa’s House from Breath of the Wild.

Thou shall not pass!

Seen at any angle, this moment in time captured by Eero Okkonen is astonishing! Eero is known for his character builds, but takes it a step further by embodying them in a scene where tension between two swordsmen is captured in time.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe

Weekends in our house growing up included Saturday morning cartoons, so when I saw this incredible Voltron by d’ Qiu Brick I had a huge pang of nostalgia for the days when cartoons on TV weren’t always about selling cheap spinning trinkets or collectible hatching toys.

It’s difficult to tell from the pictures, but I am pretty sure those lionized limbs transform into the robotic lions I remember growing up in the 80’s. The individual lion heads look amazing, especially the black lion with the face in the jaws. I love the seamless blending of Bionicle and System elements, the star on the belt buckle and the crested shield on his chest.

LEGO Batman Movie 70916 The Batwing [Review]

Besides bringing some of the most hilarious Batman adventures to the big screen, The LEGO Batman Movie also teased us with a glimpse of an enormous collection of Bat-vehicles stored in Bruce Wayne’s basement. It’s sad we didn’t get a chance to see a Bat-Space Shuttle or a Bat-kayak in action, but some other loveable gems of the collection are already in toy stores. 70916 The Batwing, with 1,053 pieces, is just 400 pieces smaller than the gigantic 70916 The Ultimate Batmobile, and retails at $89.99, which makes it the second largest set of the summer wave.

Westminster Abbey, Saint Margaret’s, and the Palace of Westminster in tiny LEGO microscale

We’ve featured the marvelous structures of master LEGO architect Rocco Buttliere quite frequently here at The Brothers Brick, from downtown Chicago to his recent 12-foot Golden Gate Bridge. Rocco’s latest LEGO build captures the heart of the sprawling Westminster World Heritage Site in the City of London, centered (or centred, if you prefer) on Westminster Abbey, the Church of St Margaret, and the Palace of Westminster where the UK Parliament meets.

A rare sighting is the big cat’s pyjamas for this colonel

The Colonel has found a real vantage point within this overgrown Meso-American watchtower as he manages to catch sight of the elusive jaguar. This build by Ayrlego uses a nice mix of LEGO flora to create a little jungle scene — even the sprue from the three-leaf plant is utilised and becomes a vine winding its way through the watchtower’s window. The textures and colours used for the overgrown watchtower are perfect allowing the scene to be both aesthetically pleasing and true to nature.

The jaguar is a rare animal but thanks to the new City Jungle theme, the population of jaguars has increased. You can read more about this new animal in our review of 6061 City Jungle Exploration Site.

10,000 bricks bring forth a monstrous black dragon

We do not feature Bionicle and similar creations on The Brothers Brick very often, but when we do, you can be sure they will be the absolute best of the best. Such is this enormous dragon built by Yeonghun Joe. The builder loves dragons, and it shows: Two months of daily building to bring this monstrosity to life. The end result is almost a meter-long and over half-a-meter-tall, 10,000-piece masterpiece that has more going for it than just its size.

The dragon has great dynamic shaping and an intense texture throughout, achieved with elements like wing pieces, armor parts, and shields. To a critical viewer, the wings may look too skeletal, but I am glad Yeonghun did not use cloth pieces here, as it might actually diminish the effect — and a brick-built solution would definetely be too heavy. As for the head, I am pleasantly surprised; when I advise people on dragon building tecniques, I tell them not to make teeth as they more often than not look bad, but in this case and at this scale they look just as they should. Creations made of Bionicle (and related themes’) pieces are usually poseable, so I wonder – is it so with Yeonghun’s dragon as well?

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes 2018 to be presented at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 [News]

As one of the worlds largest toys manufacturers, the LEGO Company won’t miss the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con convention to present the new 2018 Super Heroes sets. Even though the convention starts next week, official pictures of the LEGO Super Heroes sets are already available online. The three new medium-sized sets will feature some of our favorite heroes, like Superman and Wonder Woman, as well as characters that have never been released as LEGO minifigures before. Sets will range from $19.99 to $39.99, which is definitely good news considering all the awesome minifigures.

Rocketing up to a new home in the sky

There’s definitely a creepy feel to this microscale LEGO scene — it seems that a little extraterrestrial tourism has led to a sudden drop in the population, as if something untoward has left a rather full looking graveyard on the ground and a large ‘not of this world’ city in the sky. Kale Frost has left the exact history of events to our own imaginations, but the title “After the Martians Came” suggests a post-apocalyptic exodus from Earth. I love the use of the stud shooter trigger for the headstones in the graveyard, and Rocket Boy’s rocket outfit gives a nice retro 1960s film feel to the scene.

A closer look at the ground shows that a surprising number of parts have been utilised to make this microscale scene. The street lamp is cute and the damage to the streets is another sign that all is not well in town.

The beauty of architecture in defence

Chinese city walls were built for defense, to protect towns and cities in China. Part of those walls included towers and gates which typically served as entry points. This particular Gate Tower built by Prince Jiang is astounding in size and amazing in architecture. I’m always in awe of how a structure meant to be a defence mechanism can also be made to look so appealing even in real life structures you see around historic China.
