Moon exploration with a LEGO Apollo 15

In 1971, the lunar rover was delivered to the moon as part of the Apollo 15 mission, and used on all subsequent missions. As I have a fond appreciation for “real” space ships, I am delighted to share with you Luis Peña‘s absolutely beautiful lunar lander module, Apollo capsule, and the ever-adorable and oh so fun lunar rover.

The Apollo capsule is instantly recognizable. The curves convey the shape wonderfully, and I love the properly cramped interior that Luis is able to show. The rover’s colors are so vibrant!

And if you like LEGO Apollo models, remember that LEGO is currently working on an Apollo 11 set, so you’ll be able to buy your own in the near future.

Survival starts in the core: LEGO versions of ReCore’s Mack and Joule

When my friend Lego Junkie posted his version of Mack from ReCore a few days ago, I only had a sketch model of heads for the main characters Mack and Joule. His version, as well as new gameplay footage and screenshots from E3 of these characters, was just the motivation I needed to move forward with said sketches.

Arcade Robot Breakdance Battle features amazing LEGO animation [Video]

YouTube content creator BreaksBricks recently put out a short LEGO animation in the form of LEGO Arcade Robot Breakdance Battle!. I’m going to skip over the cute characters, good music and great builds, because the animation alone is worth talking about. I haven’t seen animated LEGO this smooth since The Lego Movie. Give it a watch:

2017 DC Superheroes Mighty Micros unveiled [News]

LEGO has announced the next wave of DC Superheroes Mighty Micros sets, slated for a release next January. This new wave of chibi-sized superheroes and villains and their vehicles will feature Batman vs. Killer Moth, Wonder Woman vs. Doomsday, and Superman vs. Bizarro. The sets will be on display at San Diego Comic Con in July, and when they finally hit store shelves they’ll retail for $9.99 USD each, just like the first wave of Mighty Micros we reviewed.

LEGO builders on the South Pole [Interview]

It seems that wherever there are technical and creative people, there is also LEGO. LEGO has been taken into space to the International Space Station and, as it turns out, there is also LEGO on the South Pole. Recently I was contacted by Ethan Rudnitsky, who works at the U.S. Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station, located on the geographic South Pole in Antarctica, with a question about building a Hercules aircraft out of LEGO, with the purpose of displaying the model at the station. Ethan is part of the crew who are spending the winter there. He told me that there are other LEGO enthusiasts on the station as well and that, as part of the last supply flight in February, the crew were sent a shipment of LEGO sets.

UCS LEGO Planet Express Ship from Futurama

Good news, everyone! Remember all those times you desperately needed a LEGO spaceship fast enough to outrun a murderous Robot Santa Claus? Or what about those times you justed wanted to deliver a LEGO pizza in a stylish vehicle with a sweet “electric mucus” paint job? Well, you’re in luck because Nicola Stocchi, builder of the incredibly detailed Transformer Grimlock has created a beautifully rendered version of the Planet Express Ship from Futurama. Nicola built this beauty in LEGO Digital Designer with 5112 parts. Seriously, could this LEGO ship be any more spot on? At the risk of sounding negative, no.

BuWizz – the one brick to steer them all – on Kickstarter [News]

BuWizz is an aftermarket brick designed to bring more precise control and increased power to your LEGO creations. It is the brainchild of Roni Leben and his team over at BuWizz headquarters in Slovenia, who have just started a Kickstarter project to fund its production.

Loki what I made!

For some fans, comic and sci-fi convention season means making a custom costume for the event: cosplay. The character in Alysa Kirkpatrick‘s vignette is taking her construction very seriously, spending countless hours in front of a vintage sewing machine. She’s going to look so cool when it’s finished.

Hair-raising encounter with a troll

Check out this fun scene from aido k—a troll in its cave about to be interrupted by a group of soldiers. I’m not sure who’s going to come out best in this encounter, but I think my money is going on the big guy. There’s fabulous parts usage here for the troll’s hair—that’s an octopus! It’s so good it actually distracts attention from the equally cool use of an upside-down treasure chest as a mouth.

LEGO CoreBot Mack from ReCore

A year and another E3 after the announcement of upcoming action-adventure title ReCore, we finally got gameplay footage of the hero Joule and her adorable CoreBot dog Mack. Combine this with a former Halo writer writing ReCore’s story, and I am hyped. Lego Junkie keeps the hype train rolling with his cute LEGO version of robo-dog Mack. I enjoy how poseable his Mack build is; it brings out the character in what looks to be a fun companion to Joule.

LEGO hamburgers this good are rare

We’ve featured some of nobu_tary‘s fabulous LEGO recreations of food in the past, and here’s another excellent meal-based model—a burger with an egg topping.

The individual elements of the build are spot-on, and the overall presentation is excellent. Just looking at the image is making me hungry. This burger definitely came with a side of awesomesauce.

Gotham brick-figures, part 1

As a license-theme builder, I’m always looking forward to the latest story, book, or film to get inspiration. And with Batman being a particular favorite of mine, there’s always something inspirational around the corner. So for Brickworld Chicago this year, I dug to the root of Batman—its renowned characters—to construct a collection of twelve figures that depict the worst criminals of Gotham, as well as its famous dark knight. Here are just a few of those characters:
