TBB Weekly Brick Report: LEGO news roundup for October 8, 2022 [News]

In addition to the amazing LEGO models created by builders all over the world, The Brothers Brick brings you the best LEGO news and reviews. This is our weekly Brick Report for the 1st week of October 2022.

TBB NEWS AND REVIEWS Fans of the Star Wars show The Mandalorian, on Disney’s streaming service, have a lot to be excited about this week as we revealed and then reviewed the latest LEGO UCS Star Wars set, the Razor Crest, which is the most screen accurate model since the Death Star (wink). We also covered the reveal of this year’s addition to the growing Winter Village theme. The winning submission from a LEGO Ideas sports-based contest has been announced as a new set (a bit smaller than the original but still very cool). Finally, a new gift with purchase was reviewed that would fit very well with your pirate collection.

OTHER NEWS In other news, Adam Savage sat down with LEGO enthusiast and Pixar director Angus MacLane to do a build of a custom-designed Bladerunner blaster Angus had been working on for years as a special request from Adam.

LEGO Ideas reveals 21337 Table Football, a 2,300-piece playable game table [News]

Today LEGO Ideas has revealed the next fan-inspired set will be 21337 Table Football. LEGO builder Donát Fehérvári submitted the project to Ideas as part of the special We Love Sports contest on the platform, where it won the grand prize last summer. The finished 2,339-piece LEGO Ideas set created by LEGO Designer Antica Bracanov positions minifigures as the players inside a functional—if miniaturized—table with ball returns and score counters. Full-size table football games (frequently known by the trademarked name Foosball) typically include eight rows of players, with 11 players for each team. The LEGO version downsizes that to just 5 players on each team on the field, but the full complement of 22 minifigures are included in the set. Rather than including predetermined minifigures for the teams, the set includes more than 40 minifigure heads and hairpieces across a range of skin tones, along with an extra bit of stadium seating for the inactive players that also functions as a storage box for the spare pieces. 21337 Table Football will be available starting Nov. 1, 2022, for US $249.99 | CAN $309.99 | UK £241.99.

If you haven’t heard, BrickCon, the home LEGO convention for The Brothers Brick, is happening this weekend in Seattle. And, as we’ve previously posted, we’re hosting a collaborative display called MOCing Memories where builders can showcase their tributes to LEGO sets of the past, large or small. Now, while it’s too late to register to display your own builds, it’s not too late to stop by Saturday or Sunday to see what our talented bevy of builders have come up with in this ode to themes of yesteryear. If you’re in the Seattle area, and you’d like to see this marvelous TBB-sponsored display (and everything else at BrickCon) there’s more info here.

LEGO Star Wars 75331 The Razor Crest Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) from The Mandalorian [Review]

When The Mandalorian series began to air in 2019, one of the things that captured many fans’ hearts right off the bat (including my own) was Din Djarin’s battered bounty hunter vessel the Razor Crest. It fit perfectly into the famously “lived-in” Star Wars universe of the original trilogy, and so it’s fitting that 75331 The Razor Crest is the first vehicle from outside the movie trilogies to receive the Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) treatment. At 28 inches long (72cm), the UCS Razor Crest includes 6,187 pieces and features minifigures of Din Djarin, Kuiil, a Mythrol, Grogu, along with a brick-built blurrg. Revealed just a few days ago, the set will retail for US $599.99 | CAN $759.99 | UK £519.99 and will be available Oct. 3 for VIP members with general availability Oct. 7.

LEGO Star Wars reveals 75331 The Razor Crest as next Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) set [News]

Today LEGO has revealed 75331 The Razor Crest as the next Ultimately Collector Series (UCS) set in the Star Wars lineup. The infamous bounty hunter’s ship from The Mandalorian marks the first vehicle from one of Disney’s Star Wars TV series to get the UCS treatment. With 6,187 pieces and 28 inches (72 cm) in length, the new ship is in minifigure scale, dwarfing the previous 75292 Razor Crest set from 2020. The set will include Din Djarin, Grogu, Kuiil on a brick-built blurrg, and a Mythrol prisoner. It also features a full interior with multiple removable hull sections for access. It will retail for US $599.99 | CAN $759.99 | UK £519.99 and will be available for LEGO VIP members starting Oct. 3, with general availability following Oct. 7.

LEGO Ideas 40566: Ray the Castaway – A Marooned Gift with Purchase [Review]

It’s been over a year since the official LEGO Ideas vote revealed that Ray the Castaway by Daditwins would be a future gift with purchase. Clocking in at 239 pieces, is this GWP something everyone will need to pick up, or will it be “cast away” as inferior? Read on for my full review to find out.

The BrickHeadz line has expanded to cover a wide range of pop culture in the past two years, so it is not at all surprising that the wave of sets coming with the release of the second Avatar movie includes one. 40554 Jake Sully & his Avatar features the main character Jake, both in his original human form and as his Na’vi avatar. LEGO Super Mario 71411 The Mighty Bowser – A boss of a build [Review]

Pretty much everyone who hasn’t been living under a rock is acquainted with Nintendo and the Super Mario franchise. Indeed, the little guy and his troupe of friends and enemies are a pop culture icon, and a marriage between LEGO and Nintendo was always inevitable. Whether you’re playing or displaying, there are sets for everyone, even if you’re not a diehard nostalgic fan. The latest addition, Mario’s arch enemy, is certainly no exception. LEGO Super Mario 71411 The Mighty Bowser (which will be available October 1st and retail for US $269.99 | CAN $349.99 | UK £229.99) might just put a smile on the faces of even decidedly uninterested builders.
