Collaborative LEGO builds lead to the best views

With the powers of eight LEGO builders are combined, some truly spectacular creations can come into being. For instance, the amazing team of jnj_bricks, Eli Willsea, Carter Witz, Joel Tyer, Micah Beideman, Roanoke Handybuck, Davis Brown, and J2_Bricks all came together to show Omar a world worth exploring. There is some phenomenal forced perspective at play, with darling rockwork, bridgework, and tower-work(?) all coming together into something magical. I am just wishing that Omar will take me along on his next voyage.

The Kenworth 993 is here to lug your heaviest LEGO models

Originally produced by the Kenworth Truck Company back in the 1980’s, the 993 model translates pretty well into LEGO all thanks to TsungNing Lee. Made to haul the heaviest of equipment, the truck actually doesn’t have room for its 700 hp Cummins V-12 engine in the front. Instead, you can see where it resides behind the driver, represented here by a bit of gray mechanics enclosed in a shell of yellow bricks and tubing.

Revisiting Life on Mars at Orion Station

Back in 2001, LEGO released a wonderful Space subtheme called Life on Mars. It featured a colony of Martians along with some Terran space exploration vehicles, and plenty of mechs. Builder Ben Brickson sends us back to the red planet with this glorious space station based on the original theme. Sporting the sand purple coloration of 7317 Aero Tube Hangar and a brilliant dark orange planetary surface dotted with trans-pink ferns, this build very much feels like a worthy modern take.

Few bands have an iconic look that can rival electronic duo Daft Punk. And builder Dylan Mievis
captures that look perfectly in LEGO with this pair of instantly-recognizable helmets. The techniques here may seem simple, but these are some really tricky forms to achieve in proper proportion, and Dylan handles them like a pro.

How to build a LEGO archway [Building Technique]

We spend a lot of time here at TBB talking about finished LEGO works, but rarely do we get into the work-in-progress techniques that go into those pieces. For instance, builder Monty Matte shows us how to properly portal our palisades with this LEGO archway technique over on his Instagram. A frequent feature of many of Monty’s builds, this image gives us just a peek into how the architectural detail comes together.

How to feather a LEGO eagle [Building Technique]

We’ve marveled in the past at the strong LEGO work of Sakiya Watanabe. But this close up of a WIP they’re working on allows us some better insight into the parts that can create a biological texture like feathers. A cacophany of bars, clips, and claws, it all comes together to form quite the eagle head.

Since we’re revisiting Blacktron, why not a Battrax, too?

The talk online has been fairly mixed regarding the return of LEGO Blacktron with LEGO Icons 10355 Blacktron Renegade. I don’t know about you, dear reader, but I’m definitely excited. And so, it appears, is builder 1corn, coming in hot with an excellent modern take on 6941 Battrax. With big chunky tires, a large sensor array, and what appear to be custom decals, this dark rover is quite the ode to the 1987 model.

And like the model from back in the 80’s, this one also transforms into a flying ship. Really putting the “Bat” in Battrax, am I right?

Rolling around with this LEGO build from Katamari Damacy

As LEGO has always been my primary hobby, I’m not the biggest video game enthusiast. But I’ve definitely put in way too many hours playing Katamari Damacy in my youth. As the Prince, I’ve rolled that sticky ball around rooms, houses, towns, and the world picking up all sorts of items, all in an effort to reform stars and constellations stripped from the night sky. And if that description hasn’t piqued your interest, this excellent LEGO build by Maxx Davidson certainly will. Fresh off of winning TBB’s Builder of the Year 2024, Maxx has nailed the Prince, his katamari, and even a few small bits from off the floor that he’s picked up — that red thumbtack is a brilliant mini-build in its own right. The King of All Cosmos would definitely be pleased!
