Genius inspiration is fleet-ing

Capturing great details on a spaceship that fits in the palm of your hand is a refreshing surprise from TBB Veteran, Letranger Absurde, and this pair of spaceships, while inspired by Star Wars, stand alone as a lesson in master parts usage. Take the fighter, made from a single LEGO minifigure robot head mold from the Galaxy Squad theme, where the facial visor serves as the cockpit canopy. And the red 1×1 tile on the side of the frigate nose picks up the circle design on the sides of the fighter beautifully.

Fancier than a plate of es-cargo, and twice as tasty

While this sleek LEGO cargo ship by Guy Smiley would look perfectly at home in a scene of interstellar combat, this pair of vessels are here to get the shipping job done. The cargo ship is sporting some powerful engines, and the support craft has a manipulator arm to load and unload the containers. But my favorite part use is the door panels from a Minifig cupboard, used throughout the models, with those two tiny holes.

But every great spaceship needs a worthy stand to support it, and if you look closely at this scene, you will discover that this stand is a creation all its own, depicting an entire microscale city over which these ships are flying on their way to the port.

Ready to hunt some bugs – Nope, not even close

If we were ever to encounter alien life, there is every reason to believe that they will look nothing like us. The many conditions required for life as we know it to evolve are entirely based on our own little blue/green world. And if you are going to invent life in the form of LEGO creations, the only limit is your imagination. Take this scene by Djokson, for example. These insect-like creatures and their troop transport would fit right in on many science fiction worlds and the human troops that encounter them would have the fight of their lives.

The troop transport creature is appropriately named the Flea, for its obvious ability to jump clear across the battlefield. Heads-up!

Hauntingly alien gunship mixes science and nature

If you hear it buzzing in the sky, it is already too late to escape. This LEGO creation by [VB] is equal parts cutting-edge technology, and nightmares. The array of transparent blue garage door elements evokes a dragonfly’s delicate wings, while the twisted mass of tangled brains under that dome… shudder. Oh, and if you are wondering what that big ridged part forming the main body is from, that is a Throwbot container.

For video gamers, there was one more event that made 2019 the year of Star Wars, and that was the highly anticipated Jedi: Fallen Order, which put players in the role of a Jedi Padawan in hiding since the tragedy of Order 66. But one of the best new characters introduced is the pet-sized BD-1. The adorable little companion droid who helps the player with health stims, slicing Imperial tech, and scanning ancient ruins for valuable data. LEGO Spider tank is out to ruin your day – Pew pew

In case you are wondering what is more terrifying than a spider big enough to step on you in the middle of the night, how about one that is also just as likely to pulverize you with its fists or punch a soda can-sized hole in your gut with its energy blaster thing. I’m talking about this imposing LEGO walking tank by Tino Poutiainen, which is appropriately named Mastadon.

The walking arsenal looks surprisingly nimble, and it can also call in some redundant reinforcements with its communication array, just to show off.

Stunning model of F-Town building

This LEGO model of a modern architectural building that looks like it is made from LEGO is kinda making my brain hurt at an Inception level, but brain-pain never looked so good. A digital render by aukbricks, using only existing parts and colors, the model’s distinct surface technique consists of more than 3,000 1×1 white plates.

While the building is certainly the star of the scene, the two trees are also quite nicely built.

Suit-able for most any environment

If you have to go outside your spaceship or your undersea base, you need a hardsuit that can take the pressure, like this one by Omar R Ovalle. It’s built to fit a constraction figure like Rey, who looks like she can rock any salvage mission in style.

But our favorite scavenger is not the only Star Wars character to get their own fancy suit of power armor. Jyn Erso is sporting a pretty neat deep-sea diving suit.

Remain calm! Chunky Transformers are here to help

If you like LEGO and chunky transforming robots, there is definitely more to these first-responders by Sam.C (S2 Toys Studios) than meets the eye. (See what I did there?) Both Autobots feature angled faces and anime-inspired helmet details that look like they transformed right out of a comic book, or 1980s-something Saturday morning cartoon.

Aside from the amazing pose-ability and blocky limbs, my favorite hard-to-spot part is the light gray 1×1 round plate with ball joint (most commonly found in yellow as the hands of the brick-built LEGO System figures) used here for the perfect connection in many of the bots’ joints.

A LEGO bonsai to admire

The art of bonsai, or tray planting, much like LEGO building can be a very meditative process. Hours and hours can go into the finished product, and meticulous study and practice can lead to a true masterpiece of patience and careful work.

In this wonderfully detailed tree by Know Your Pieces that combines both, there are some small details worth pointing out. I love the use of tiny cherries as small berries under some of the leaves. The twisted brown whip wrapped around the middle is also a nice choice. And the bowl and stand work very well together to provide the perfect display. Altogether, it’s just how a beautiful bonsai should be.
