Shai-Hulud? More like Shai-hello there!

Few sci-fi creatures have presented a perennial challenge to LEGO builders like Dune‘s sandworm. We’ve already covered a few LEGO sandworms over the years, but given the number of techniques that can be used to represent these otherworldly lifeforms, we’ll probably be covering them well into the year 10,191. In hachiroku24‘s version, the worm’s body is mostly overlapping 1×2 rectangular and round tiles, a simple yet effective solution. It’s a scene that probably just got cut from the recent movie — lovers Paul Atreides and Chani enjoy the ultimate date night: Preparing to ride the mighty Shai-Hulud together. We’re sure nothing could ever drive them apart, right?

LEGO Ideas 21342 The Insect Collection – Botanicals meets animals [Review]

The LEGO Group is right in the thick of pounding out Ideas sets. At this point, the completionists are probably having a hard time keeping up with collecting the entire line. But there are definitely some you don’t want to miss. Under the microscope next is LEGO Ideas 21342 The Insect Collection. While it looks a fair bit more detailed than the original fan submission by José María Pérez Suero, it holds onto the spirit of that design. Join us as we get out our magnifying glasses and take a closer look at this seemingly beautiful build. The set, which contains 1111 pieces, will be available Sept. 7th and retail for US $79.99 | CAN $99.99 | UK £69.99.

Where’s Herbie these days?

It’s been a long time since everyone’s favorite love-bug hit the big screen. From 1968 to 2005, millions of hearts were warmed by the sentient VW Beetle’s escapades. But somehow, with as awesome as he is, he still winds up broken down and abandoned from time to time. (Lame humans!) But who knows where he is these days? According to Hachiroku92, he’s in a barnyard someplace, needing a little love. This sad but adorable LEGO version of Herbie makes great use of the small quarter-round curved slopes for that iconic body shape, and adds frying pans for headlights. That windmill is excellent too!

Yo ho ho, it’s a bug’s life for me

Hachiroku24 shows us a collection of LEGO bugs made with an amazing eye for detail. Their collection consists of a lady bug, a praying mantis, a butterfly, a bee and a rhino beetle and all of them are amazing. Let’s zoom in on each bug individually. The lady bug is just a cute little ball. The 2×1 wedge with stud notch work perfectly for the eyes of the lady bug and have you seen those little feet? The praying mantis head is simply perfect using the bionicle tooth and the technic ball for eyes. There are a lot of plant stems, tail ends and even surfboards used in this little bug. The butterfly is a beautiful build using different shades of blue for the pattern on the wings. The bee and the rhino beetle are the best of the bunch. Although it is not pictured here, they both come with a set of wings using transparent pieces including the 1×4 curved slope which looks stunning! You can watch a video of the build here. Now I am off to build these myself. I think I will frame them and hang them on my wall in stead of buying an entomology display.

The Razorcrest – chibi style [Instructions]

If you haven’t seen the new live-action Star Wars show, The Mandalorian, streaming on Disney+, you need to stop reading this right now and go check it out. Seriously. Okay, you’re back? Great, let’s continue. One of the coolest things about the show, in my opinion, is the hero’s ship. The Razorcrest looks amazing on the show, due in part to the fact that it is a model, a real-life hold in your hands and swoosh across your bedroom model. Now you can build your very own Razorcrest chibi style, thanks to these instructions by hachiroku24.

The art and science of LEGO tensegrity builds

The recent trend in the LEGO-sphere community has all been about magical floating compression structures, better known as a tensegrity – a portmanteau of “tensional integrity”. The fad started with a very rudimentary build on a Reddit and soon spawned many more creative iterations. We pick a few of the more outstanding ones that we’ve seen that has impressed us. Build your own LEGO BD-1 from the video game Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order [Instructions]

From the release of Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise Of Skywalker to the premiere of the first live-action TV series, The Mandalorian, on the Disney+ streaming service, Star Wars fans have a lot to be excited about. For video gamers, there was one more event that made 2019 the year of Star Wars, and that was the highly anticipated Jedi: Fallen Order, which put players in the role of a Jedi Padawan in hiding since the tragedy of Order 66. But one of the best new characters introduced is the pet-sized BD-1. The adorable little companion droid who helps the player with health stims, slicing Imperial tech, and scanning ancient ruins for valuable data. Now you can build your own LEGO BD-1 with instructions by hachiroku24. Unfortunately, you will need to collect a lot of extra parts to unlock all the customization color schemes from the game.

I’m willing to bet my last brick that within the next 27 months, we will be getting an official LEGO issued brick-built Razor Crest in some shape or form. The cutest baby in a galaxy far, far away [Instructions]

Episode 5 of The Mandalorian has hit Disney+, and “Baby Yoda” continues to melt viewers’ hearts like a bowl of ice cream under the hot summer sun. What would melt your heart even more? How about hachiroku24’s adorable LEGO rendition of the little guy in his floating bassinet? Just look at that face! The cloth wrapped around Baby Yoda is in fact the large cape from LEGO’s Obi-Wan Kenobi constraction figure (2015).

Freedom is the right of all sentient beings

The leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime, is known for motivating the troops with a good speech, and this model by hachiroku24 is striking the perfect pose to deliver. While this Optimus may not actually transform into his truck form, the builder did manage to capture many of the details that make this instantly recognizable, from the blocky red and blue limbs to those windshield pectorals.
