The ultimate ride with a tiny horsepower

This is a little unusual, but I’d like to poll our readers out there on this little vehicle. Is this type of bike familiar to you? During my travels, I find that this is a very popular choice of vehicle in many parts of Asia, but not very prominent to almost non-existent, especially in the United States. Perhaps its a very affordable and economical option for shorter distances and developing countries, but seeing something so staple like this is pretty amazing, triggering memories as a child. This stunning bike built by Vietnamese builder Khang Huynh built this Honda Cub that’s in abundance and a main mode of transportation in the country.

It’s used for almost everything you can think of transporting, and he’s even added a sample of a modded vehicle which actually happens a lot on the roads, in this case, to transport a little greenery of pots and plants.

The art and science of LEGO tensegrity builds

The recent trend in the LEGO-sphere community has all been about magical floating compression structures, better known as a tensegrity – a portmanteau of “tensional integrity”. The fad started with a very rudimentary build on a Reddit and soon spawned many more creative iterations. We pick a few of the more outstanding ones that we’ve seen that has impressed us. First look at the LEGO 75288 AT-AT from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back [News]

Revealed by retailer Amazon Japan, we get a first look at The LEGO 75288 AT-AT that comes with the label of the 40th anniversary of Star Wars Episode IV: The Empire Strikes Back. It’s been a while since an AT-AT was released at this scale with LEGO 75054 AT-AT back in 2014. It comes with 1,267 pieces, six minifigures and is scheduled to be released on Sept. 1st 2020 for US $159.99 | CAN $199.99 | UK £139.99.

LEGO and Universal Pictures strike deal for new LEGO movies [News]

LEGO and Universal Pictures have announced a five-year exclusive agreement to develop, produce and distribute more movies based on LEGO licenses. This pact includes all the film rights for previously released titles, so we could see the next installment of franchises like The LEGO Movie as well as new additions to the LEGO film universe.

Previously, Warner Bros. via the Warner Animated Group had produced a total of four movies over a span of 6 years but made the decision by the end of December 2019 not to renew the license agreement with LEGO to make more big-screens titles. While the first LEGO movie was considered a box-office hit, and the total takings from the four movies combined grossed over $1.1 billion globally, individually the later titles (The LEGO Batman Movie, The LEGO Ninjago Movie, and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part) did not bring in the same box office expectations. There was interest from Universal pictures with involvement in LEGO films following their work on the Jurassic Park LEGO miniseries, and now the two companies have finally closed on the agreement.

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA—April 23, 2020— Universal Pictures today announced that the studio has entered into a five-year exclusive agreement with the LEGO Group to develop, produce and distribute theatrical releases based on its intellectual property and original ideas. The announcement was made by Donna Langley, Chairman, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, and Jill Wilfert, Head of Entertainment, the LEGO Group.

Capitalizing on its timeless brand, the LEGO Group’s expansion into content creation with titles including The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, The LEGO Ninjago Movie and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, has grossed nearly $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office. Universal and LEGO have previously collaborated on the television special, Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit and the 13-episode mini-series LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar.

“The LEGO System in Play gives people the ability to build worlds and create stories that they carry throughout every phase of their lives,” said Langley. “To partner with such an iconic brand that remains relevant and is constantly evolving allows for creativity in storytelling. We’re thrilled to start building out the next chapter of LEGO movies together with Jill and the LEGO team as they continue to inspire curiosity and innovation.”

“Universal’s commitment to unique storytelling from diverse voices makes the Studio the perfect partner as the LEGO Group enters this new phase of filmmaking,” said Wilfert. “Donna and the entire Universal team bring a sense of wonder and imagination we share, and we can’t wait to execute on our shared vision.”

Wilfert will serve as producer on all LEGO projects developed and released by Universal. Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce alongside Wilfert on the next LEGO-inspired feature. Lin produced all previous LEGO features.

The LEGO Group was represented in the deal by Ken Kleinberg and Jill Smith from Kleinberg, Lange, Cuddy and Carlo.

LEGO Powered Up update to the community [News]

The LEGO Powered Up technology is a followup to the LEGO Power Functions and made its debut in 60197 City Passenger Train and 60198 Cargo Train. LEGO Power Functions will be obsolete from current sets (if not already).

As LEGO seamlessly weaves Powered Up functions into their products, loss of some features and functions can sometimes leave fans more questions than answers. Over the short number of years, there has been more information sharing such as this consolidated FAQ made public. The LEGO Engagement team has also been reaching out to the LEGO community to gather feedback over time. Because of confidentiality and upcoming products, the lack of communication back to the community can sometimes be challenging. But to address that our feedback has been heard, the Powered Up team has released a public statement to share with the community.

LEGO 21161 Minecraft Crafting Box 3.0 and 21163 The Redstone Battle sets revealed [News]

We get a look at two new LEGO Minecraft that have been revealed by Amazon France, the LEGO 21163 Minecraft The Redstone Battle and the LEGO 21161 Minecraft The Crafting Box 3.0. The Crafting Box is priced at 84.99 Euros and the Redstone Battle is priced at 54.00 Euros. Both sets will be released on June 1st 2020.

What do paint buckets and pirates have in common?

Well, what do they have in common? Absolutely nothing! Sorry to disappoint you, but this is really more of an abstract art challenged driven by a contest to build a LEGO creation in a single color. Builder Markus Rollbühler cleverly builds a gravity-defying paint bucket and a tiny pirate ship sailing off the edges of spilt paint. So, since we’re on the topic, what’s a pirate’s favorite color? For sure it’s not yellow, but.. if you’ve not gotten it yet, it’s ARR-inge.

Hispabrick Magazine March 2020, Issue 34 now available for free download [News]

Hispabrick is a LEGO magazine that’s published both in English and Spanish and available for free in digital format and also in print (at cost) for the past 12 years. The first issue for 2020 is now available after a short delay as Lluís Gibert from the editorial board had a new addition to his family! Congrats and we welcome a BFOD (Baby Fan Of Duplo) to the community.

Relive the Star Wars Trench Run with a LEGO custom build kit [Instructions]

Early on when Jason Allemann from JK Brickworks first revealed and eventually submitted the wonderful Pursuit of Flight on LEGO Ideas. He also recreated two variations, a scene with Santa and his reindeers, and also modification of the scene that captured many Star Wars Fans hearts with the nail-biting Trench Run scene from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

While we’ll never get to see the Pursuit of Flight be made into an official LEGO set, he’s released the building instruction guide and parts for the Trench Run.

You can download the parts and instructions from the JK Brickworks website here, which consists of an add-on guide if you wish to motorise the setup.

Two birds in hand is worth twenty bricks in total

I’m always stoked to see how much can be represented with so little. Micro builds always seem easy and gives me feeling of “Why didn’t I think of that??” but in fact, they’re a lot harder to pull off than you’d think, in getting something represented appropriately with the limited number of bricks on hand. The Lesser Adjutant is a species of the stork family found mostly in the regions of Southeast Asia, and Malaysian builder Marco Gan captures the likeness of these birds eloquently, with each made up of just ten LEGO elements.
