LEGO 40522 Valentine Lovebirds – Lovey-dovey, except they’re parrots. [Review]

It seems that merch for the holidays shows up earlier and earlier every year. Case in point, LEGO has revealed their Valentine’s Day themed holiday set – LEGO 40522 (Love Birds). We don’t know the price yet, but based on the 286-piece part count and the 2021 Valentine’s set, we’re guessing it’ll be in the $15-20 US range. We’ll find out for sure when on January 1st when this set is officially released! In the meantime, we can take an even earlier look at this offering and see if the love shines through or not.

UPDATE! These cuties are now available for US $12.99 | CAN $16.99 | UK £11.99 and they’re called “Valentine Lovebirds”. Good to know!

LEGO Ninjago 71763 Lloyd’s Race Car EVO – A car with an excess of acceleration [Review]

We’ve come to the last set in our preview of the January 2022 LEGO Ninjago EVO theme. It has an age suggestion of “6+”, an under-represented Ninjago demographic according to what the set’s designer Niek van Slagmaat has shared on Twitter. Exploring LEGO Chinese New Year 80109 Lunar New Year Ice Festival [Review]

A couple days ago we took a look at LEGO 80108 Lunar New Year Traditions, the second in a trio of this year’s Chinese New Year series. The whole collection of these sets (including years past) has been fun, adventurous, and feature-packed. They’ve also often been filled with interesting and new elements. 2022 brings us to another Year of the Tiger in the 12 year cycle, and with it we have LEGO 80109 Lunar New Year Ice Festival. LEGO Ninjago 71762 Kai’s Fire Dragon EVO – Ooh, that’s a burn! [Review]

The January 2022 Ninjago EVO theme has some very targeted “6+” age range offerings. LEGO designer Niek van Slagmaat shared on Twitter how that age range is a group that’s currently under-represented in Ninjago fans, and now LEGO aims to change that. Among the lures is LEGO Ninjago 71762 Kai’s Fire Dragon EVO, which will be available January 1st from the LEGO Shop Online for US $29.99 | CAN $39.99 | UK £24.99. LEGO Marvel Superheroes Doctor Strange 76205 Gargantos Showdown [Review]

Judging from the trailers, it seems Doctor Strange is playing a big role in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home (which premiered this past weekend and we’ll avoid spoiling here). And after that, the Sorcerer Supreme won’t have very much downtime as the second movie in his franchise, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will be hitting theaters early next year. There’s not a ton of information officially released about the plot of that movie so far and the trailer is a bit cryptic, but let’s see what we can deduce about it from taking a look at its tie-in LEGO set, 76205 Gargantos Showdown. This 264-piece set will be available January 1st for US $29.99 | CAN $39.99 | UK £24.99.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76206 Iron Man Figure [Review]

The cinematic story of Tony Stark came to an end with the release of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. But, for the true icons of pop culture, the merch doesn’t stop just because the story has ended. Robert Downey, Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man is joining the likes of Darth Vader and Optimus Prime as someone who lives on in the toy aisle long after they’ve passed away on screen. LEGO Ninjago 71761 Zane’s Power Up Mech EVO – Now with a frosty icing of extra weapons [Review]

Historically, the LEGO Ninjago theme has been based on the animated series – with released sets providing real-world playtime for what you saw on the screen. In 2022, however, LEGO is taking a different approach. As LEGO designer Niek van Slagmaat shared on Twitter, this wave is meant to be “a line of Ninjago that [will] not only stand on its own without content but also be the epitome of Ninjago toys.” That means no series tie-ins and a celebration of the “core values” of Ninjago. There’s still a unifying theme to this new group of sets – EVO. The idea is that a base model is upgraded with additional weapons to become more formidable. Sounds interesting, right?
