LEGO Icons Fairgrounds Collection 10303 Loop Coaster – next level fun [Review]

When the first LEGO roller coaster came out in 2018, it felt as though it was long overdue. All the folks playing with K’Nex were chomping at the bit for LEGO to produce something in a way that only LEGO can. Of course, if you give a mouse a cookie, he’ll want some milk. The same people dying for a coaster were soon dying for track made for loops. Four long years later we’ve finally gotten our wish! And not only that, but something with a lot of wow factor. Join us a we take the plunge and loop-dee-loop our way around the LEGO Icons Fairground Collection 10303 Loop Coaster. LEGO Harry Potter 76401 Hogwarts Courtyard: Sirius’s Rescue [Review]

Continuing our reviews of the summery 2022 Harry Potter sets which are now available, today we take a quick look at the second-smallest set in the wave: 76401 Hogwarts Courtyard: Sirius’s Rescue. This set is in many ways a modern version of 4753 Sirius Black’s Escape, featuring Harry, Sirius, Buckbeak, and more. Is it worth picking up? The set, featuring 3 minifigures and 345 pieces, is available now for US $49.99 | CAN $64.99 | UK £44.99.

This set is based on a license The LEGO Group has with the Warner Brothers films, not J.K. Rowling directly. The transphobic views expressed by Rowling do not reflect the values of The Brothers Brick or, indeed, those of The LEGO Group. The magical world Rowling created, in which many who felt a bit different could see themselves, meant a great deal to so many people, including those that Rowling now demeans. TBB affirms each individual LEGO fan’s choice to claim a piece of the world for themselves, or to reject it entirely.

LEGO Ideas 21334: Jazz Quartet – Dig these crazy sounds, Daddy-O [Review]

Back in April of 2020 we featured a creation by builder Hsinwei Chi (LEGO7): A group of very hip musicians. Great stuff…and apparently LEGO (and the wider fan community) agreed. Thanks to a successful campaign via the Ideas program, this ensemble is about to hit the shelves as LEGO Ideas 21334: Jazz Quartet. Featuring a combo made of a pianist, bassist, trumpeter and drummer, this 1606 piece set will be available for VIP members starting June 28th (and July 1st for everyone) for US $99.99 | CAN $129.99 | UK £89.99. LEGO Harry Potter 76402 Hogwarts: Dumbledore’s Office [Review]

The 2022 summer Harry Potter sets are now available for purchase, so let’s take a look at the next one on our review list. In the 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets from January, LEGO included smaller versions of locations that have already appeared in the modular Hogwarts series. In 76402 Hogwarts: Dumbledore’s Office, we see a more detailed version of a location that has appeared in smaller renditions since 2018. Is it worth the dedicated attention? LEGO 90 Years of Play 40567: Forest Hideout – A Nostalgic Gift With Purchase [Review]

The hype for the new 90 Years of Play LEGO sets is rising! We’ve already seen a fun tribute set in Classic 11021 and there are a couple of amazing sets on the horizon. LEGO VIP Rewards: Tin Signs – For the completist who has everything else already [Review]

Back in November, we shared a review of the 1950’s LEGO Logo tin sign VIP reward. Since then, LEGO has introduced four more designs to help fill out your wall space – 5007155 Ninjago, 5007156 – City, 5007157 – Friends and 5007158 – Rebuild the World. Each is available one-per-VIP-account in the Rewards Center (US | CAN | UK). In the US they’re 1,200 points each with a listed retail value of $15. We caved and ordered all four – come along as we take a look at just what we got for our 4,800 points. (Spoiler alert: Not much.)

The smallest set in the summer 2022 Harry Potter wave is 76400 Hogwarts Carriage and Thestrals. The set name really sums it up here – other than the minifigures and a very small bit of scenery, a carriage and some thestrals is all you get! Is it a good pocket money pickup? Let’s take a quick look at this set, featuring 2 minifigures and 121 pieces, which will be available starting June 19th for US $19.99 | CAN $24.99 | UK £17.99.

LEGO Marvel 76216 Iron Man Armory [Review]

Iron Man 2 came out more than a decade ago. But the power of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is such that, even 12 years later, LEGO’s target audience can still be expected to have seen the film. At the time, LEGO didn’t do any real, specific tie-in for the movie. But they’re making up for that now with set 76216 Iron Man Armory. While this set draws from multiple of Tony Stark’s on-screen adventures, it’s got a definite preference for the Armored Avenger’s second cinematic outing. This 496-piece set will be available on June 1st from the LEGO Shop Online for US $89.99 | CAN $119.99 | UK TBD.

LEGO Harry Potter 76408 12 Grimmauld Place [Review]

Today we take a look at the second completely new setting from summer 2022: 12 Grimmauld Place, the Fidelius-protected headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix. Like 76403 The Ministry of Magic, this set includes scenes and references from both the Order of the Phoenix and the Deathly Hallows, though it leans more heavily towards the Order of the Phoenix. If you’re going to represent Grimmauld Place, there’s one key feature: how do you represent how it only appears to those who know the secret? It’s quite possibly this challenge that kept LEGO from modeling this key location previously. Have they risen to it? 76048 12 Grimmauld Place has 1083 pieces and nine minifigures. It will be available from the LEGO Shop and worldwide starting June 19th for US $119.99 | CAN $149.99 | UK £114.99.

LEGO Marvel 76217 I Am Groot [Review]

Groot, the lovable living tree from the Guardians of the Galaxy series, was making baby versions of characters cool long before Grogu introduced the term “Baby Yoda” to the pop culture lexicon. As Rocket Raccoon’s loyal partner in crime, he steals scenes by just repeating the words “I am Groot” for all of his dialogue (and, let me tell you, the urge to turn in this review with “I am Groot” repeated over and over was strong). Now LEGO is releasing a 1:1 scale build of this extraterrestrial Ent in his youthful form so you can have a Baby Groot of your very own. 76217 I Am Groot is a 476-piece set releasing June 1st in the UK and worldwide August 1st for US $54.99 | CAN $69.99 | UK £44.99

LEGO Ninjago 71774: Lloyd’s Golden Ultra Dragon – Are four heads are better than one? [Review]

Dragons and Ninjago: This fan-favorite thematic pairing returns in Summer 2022 with Ninjago 71774 Lloyd’s Golden Ultra Dragon, part of Ninjago Season 15’s “Crystalized” theme. This 989 piece set will available June 1st in the UK, and August 1st worldwide, from the LEGO Shop Online for US $139.99 | CAN $179.99 | UK £124.99. Featuring a giant cast of nine minifigures, a weapon-studded throne, and a massive four-headed dragon, this is the most expensive set in the wave…but it’s not the set with the most pieces.
