The third 2020 review for LEGO Ideas has just been announced. Taking into account the first and the second reviews for 2020, the total number of projects reviewed was 86. For the third 2020 review, there were 25 projects who gathered the 10,000 supporters needed to be eligible, and only one made the final cut: Motorized Lighthouse by Sandro Quattrini (Roses Must Build).

LEGO Ideas 21327 Typewriter, the newest Ideas set revealed, was designed by Wes Talbott and James May. They both wanted the Typewriter to have as much functionality as possible, and say it was a challenge to create a working model where Technic and System bricks work well together.

LEGO Ideas 21327 Typewriter gives the crowdsourcing theme a new taste of nostalgia. With over 2,000 pieces, the set is a life-size replica of a 20th-century portable typewriter with moving keys. The original Ideas project was designed by Steve Guinness, who wanted to create something that hasn’t been done before. The typewriter has a working mechanism in which the keys can be pressed, making the center typebar rise and the carriage move. Real paper can be fed into the platen roller as an authentic user experience. The 2,079-piece set will be available to buy for LEGO VIP members from June 16 and worldwide from July 1, priced at US $199.99 | CAN $269.99 | UK £179.99.

On April 13th, LEGO Ideas blog published a post announcing a new contest called “Do you want to go to the seaside”. The winner was announced on May 31st: Ray the Castaway by Daditwins by a total of 969 votes.
The latest review qualification round for the LEGO Ideas set a new record at a whopping 57 submissions. These creations have reached the 10,000 supporter milestone and therefore qualify for the First 2021 Review. 
One of the most adorable sets to be released this year is LEGO Ideas 21326 Winnie the Pooh (available now for US $99.99 | CAN $139.99 | UK £89.99 ) We did a lot of exploring in our hands-on review, but the Hundred Acre Wood is a big place. We recently had an opportunity to participate in a roundtable interview with both the fan creator Ben Alder and the LEGO design team who brought his idea to life. LEGO Ideas blog has just published the results of the most recent building competition. The Out of this World Space Builds contest was all about spaceships and space exploration, with entries between 150 and 250-piece large. First, the panel of judges evaluated all the entries based on their originality, use of elements, and other criteria. The 15 entries selected by the judges proceeded to the fan vote stage. The winning entry will be turned into the next LEGO Ideas gift-with-purchase set, so today, we learned what to expect in LEGO stores next.
Today BrickLink is revealing the second round of its AFOL Designer Program (ADP), which crowdfunds the creation of LEGO fan designs. 31 LEGO Ideas projects which reached 10,000 votes on that platform but were not selected to become Ideas sets have been ported over to the ADP where fans can choose to support them again. The projects range from a tiny aquarium to a fishing boat and a castle. Fans will be able to pre-order them in a Kickstarter-like process between June 1 and August 10. If they pass the crowdfunding goals on BrickLink, up to 13 of the sets may be produced. Unlike LEGO Ideas, the ADP will not substantially alter submitted models, so the final sets will be extremely close to the voted-on designs.
The first round of the AFOL Designer Program occurred in 2018 and solicited designs from the fan community to be turned into semi-official LEGO sets via a partnership between LEGO and BrickLink. (Check out our review of Löwenstein Castle from the ADP.) The LEGO Company subsequently purchased BrickLink in late 2019, and the newest round of the AFOL Designer Program is leveraging that connection to draw on LEGO’s own crowdsourcing platform LEGO Ideas for the new ADP designs. LEGO Ideas projects have a chance to become official LEGO sets, but must first receive 10,000 votes and then pass an internal review for product viability. As LEGO Ideas announced in December, for round two of the ADP, the company reached out to specific creators whose projects had passed the 10k mark but not the internal review, and invited them to participate in the ADP. LEGO says future rounds of the ADP may be open to submissions from all fans.

Today LEGO has revealed the latest set from its Ideas crowd-sourcing platform. 21326 Winnie the Pooh will feature the popular characters from A. A. Milne’s book series along with Pooh’s home under the tree in the Hundred Acre Wood, as interpreted by Disney. The set will include five characters: Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, and Eeyore. The 1,265-piece set is slated to be available for LEGO VIP members starting March 18 with general availability on April 1. It will retail for US $99.99 | CAN $139.99 | UK £89.99. The Winnie the Pooh project was created by fan Ben Alder in March of 2019, and hit the requisite 10,000 votes in July of that year. It was approved by LEGO in February of last year, joining the Medieval Blacksmith as the two projects from the first 2019 LEGO Ideas review to be turned into official sets.
