LEGO Icons 10355 Blacktron Renegade: Bringing back the baddies [Review]

In 2022, LEGO released 10497 Galaxy Explorer, an updated version of the iconic 1978 space set of the same name. Now, LEGO’s latest foray into space-themed nostalgia is aimed squarely at 80s kids as the ultimate baddies of the LEGO space universe arrive in 10355 Blacktron Renegade, which was revealed yesterday. The original set was released in 1987 as part of the first wave of Blacktron, and its modular design was a novelty. Like the Galaxy Explorer, the new version of the Renegade lands as an 18+ set and ups both the size and part count significantly, while keeping the overall aesthetic of the original. The new 10355 Blacktron Renegade contains 1,151 pieces and will retail for US $99.99 | CAN $129.99 | UK £89.99 when it’s available starting Jan. 1, 2025 for LEGO Insiders. It will be available for everyone Jan. 4.

LEGO Icons 10355 Blacktron Renegade revealed as the next retro set reimagining [News]

Following in the success of 10497 Galaxy Explorer, LEGO has announced the next iconic Space set to get a modern-day remake: LEGO Icons 10355 Blacktron Renegade. The original Renegade debuted in 1987 as the largest of the initial Blacktron wave of Space sets that introduced the nefarious faction to the LEGO Space universe. While the original contained just 293 pieces, the new set clocks in at 1,151 pieces with a crew of 3 minifigs and a robot. Like its inspiration, the reimagined Renegade includes modular connections, a rover that can be stowed in the ship, and a distinctive asymmetrical design. LEGO Icons 10355 Blacktron Renegade will be available on  January 1, 2025 for LEGO Insiders and January 4 for all, and will retail for US $99.99 | CAN $129.99 | UK £89.99.

LEGO Icons 10350 Tudor Corner modular building – a return to the Classic Castle Guarded Inn [Review & Exclusive Designer Insights]

In 1986, LEGO released the all-time classic LEGO Castle 6067 Guarded Inn (so beloved that it was even briefly re-released in 2001). Harking back to this bygone era, LEGO just announced the latest in their long-running line of modular buildings, LEGO Icons 10350 Tudor Corner. Launching on January 1st, 2025 for LEGO Insiders members (January 4th for everyone else), the set incorporates design elements from traditional British architecture for the first time, including a ground-floor pub named after the Classic Castle set and brick-built half-timber construction. As its name indicates, Tudor Corner is also the next corner module, following 10297 Boutique Hotel from 2022. The set includes a whopping 3,266 parts with 7 minifigs, and will retail for US $229.99 | CAN $299 | UK £229.

At LEGO headquarters in Billund, Denmark, I sat down for a conversation with the set’s designer François Zapf alongside graphic design team manager Ashwin Visser, and I’ll be sharing insights from that interview throughout this review.

LEGO pays tribute to Leonardo da Vinci with newly-announced 10363 Leonardo da Vinci’s Flying Machine [News]

After paying homage to Galileo Galilei in a Gift with Purchase set last year, LEGO has turned to another great Renaissance mind for their latest set in the Icons line. 10363 Leonardo da Vinci’s Flying Machine was shown off at the Recognised LEGO Fan Media (RLFM) days back in September, and today has been unveiled to the wider world. With its 493 pieces, this kit recreates one of the Italian polymath’s more outlandish creations, some 300 years before the first crewed flight even took place. The flying machine never actually flew, of course – but regardless, you can still recreate it for US $49.99 | CAN $64.99 | UK £54.99 when it becomes available starting January 1, 2025.

With the monster LEGO Icons 10335 The Endurance coming in with over 3,000 pieces, it’s hard to think there’s more that could be added on. And yet, LEGO still drums up some extras with a special gift-with-purchase, LEGO Icons GWP 40729 Shackleton’s Lifeboat, available from November 29th through December 2nd with the purchase of the big ship (US | CAN | UK). So let’s dig into this 232-piece GWP and see if it’s worth prioritizing a buy of LEGO Icons 10335 The Endurance over Black Friday weekend. LEGO Icons 10335 The Endurance: worth enduring, or a polarising proposition? [Review]

Whenever we’ve had LEGO sets representing old sailing ships, they have more often than not been connected to pirates or their adversaries. In that respect, the newest entry in the Icons line is rather unique: a vessel designed purely for exploration. Polar exploration, that is! This is 10335 The Endurance, a model of the ship which took Ernest Shackleton and his crew to the Antarctic, only to get stuck and then crushed in the ice of the Weddell Sea. The Endurance has since become one of the great undiscovered shipwrecks until it was found in 2022, 100 years to the day after Shackleton’s death. Two years on, and you can now recreate this legendary ship from 3,011 LEGO pieces for US $269.99 | CAN $349.99 | UK £229.99. Availability starts from November 29, while it may also be available from third-party sellers like Amazon or eBay.

LEGO Black Friday exclusive 10335 The Endurance celebrates Ernest Shackleton with 3,000-piece sailing ship and GWP [News]

Earlier this month, National Geographic released a documentary on Disney+ about the discovery of Ernest Shackleton’s lost ship, Endurance. With perfect timing, LEGO is now releasing the polar exploration vessel in a 3,011-piece display kit: 10335 The Endurance. Retailing for US $269.99 | CAN $349.99 | UK £229.99, this ship will set sail from November 29 — just in time for the holiday season. No mention of Endurance can pass without mentioning the incredible feat of human endurance that followed its wrecking; and so LEGO Insiders can also get their hands on an exclusive gift with purchase — 40729 Shackleton’s Lifeboat – free with copies of the Endurance purchased between November 29 and December 2.

LEGO Icons Botanical Collection 10340 Wreath – deck the halls with boughs of plastic [Review]

Christmas is coming soon. Yes, yes, I know, we haven’t even had the autumn equinox, let alone Halloween. But in the world of retail, things are starting to ramp up. It’s no different at LEGO, who are releasing two festive additions to the Botanical Collection line. Alternatively, it may also be available through third-party resellers such as Amazon or eBay. LEGO Icons Botanical Collection 10370 Poinsettia – Big points for the poinsettia? [Review]

We’re big fans of LEGO’s Botanical Collection here at TBB; heck, it inspired a whole collaborative display at BrickCon recently. It seems to be popular with the public at large, too, as new sets keep popping up. One of the latest to be announced is LEGO Icons 10370 Poinsettia – a flower native to Mexico with, believe it or not, a link to the holiday season. With 608 pieces, it will retail for US $49.99 | CAN $64.99 | UK £44.99 from October 1st, although you can pre-order it now. (It may also be available from third-party sellers such as Amazon or eBay.) Now there’s loads of time until the festive season starts, but might this flowery offering be worth picking up before then? Read on to find out!
