LEGO Star Wars reveals 75308 R2-D2, a 2,300-piece UCS-style model to celebrate Lucasfilm’s 50th [News]

To celebrate Lucasfilm’s 50th Anniversary in 2021, LEGO Star Wars is taking the wraps off the long-anticipated Ultimate Collector Series-style droid with 75308 R2-D2. The large model of one of Star Wars’ most beloved characters stands 12.5 in tall (31cm) and uses 2,314 pieces. The set will include the large model of R2-D2, a UCS-style info placard, a minifigure-scale R2-D2, and a brick printed with the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary logo. It will retail for US $199.99 | CAN $269.99 | UK £179.99 when it’s available starting May 1, meaning it will be available just in time for this year’s May the Fourth Star Wars Day sales. R2-D2 will be an exclusive limited to LEGO stores and the LEGO website.

New LEGO Super Mario starter set featuring Luigi revealed online [News]

Amazon China has just revealed the upcoming extension for the LEGO Super Mario theme. The new starter course, 71387 Adventures with Luigi, will include Mario’s brother in his signature green outfit. The set is similar to the last year’s 71360 Adventures with Mario set, but will be 50 pieces bigger consisting of 280 elements. According to Amazon, the set is priced at ￥420.64, so we expect price tags around US $60 and 60€ in other regions.

LEGO Harry Potter reveals 8 new sets for Summer 2021, available to pre-order now [News]

The core Harry Potter books and movies may be wrapped up now, but the merchandising is still chugging along at top speed. Today, LEGO has unveiled the summer 2021 wave of Harry Potter sets, which brings new additions to the modular Hogwarts castle series, a chess set, and even a totally new series: giant brick-built minifigures. LEGO says that a selection of the sets is available for pre-order starting today, though at the time of writing they haven’t clarified specifically which sets will be available. With prices ranging from $20 to $130 USD, all of the sets will be released on June 1, though most of them are exclusive to specific retailers until August 1.

Holy Headgear, Batman! – LEGO DC 76182 Batman Cowl [Review]

LEGO continues to tempt adult collectors with sets that are more about a displayable model than the more traditional brick-based play experience. Of note are mini-statues featuring helmets from Star Wars and Marvel properties, a theme that has seen some recent expansions. There are even more on the way, including Marvel villains Venom and Carnage. Two new LEGO Harry Potter sets revealed by online retailer [News]

Pictures of two upcoming LEGO Harry Potter sets were published today on Amazon’s Spanish webpage. 76388 Hogsmeade Village Visit and 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets seem to be two of the largest sets of the summer wave. The product pictures give a great overview of the models and the minifigures included, but we still have to wait for the official reveal to learn about the prices and availability.

LEGO has been expanding their line of collectible helmet models into super-heroic realms. We recently shared an early look at Marvel 76199 Carnage, and today we’ll delve into the eerily similar Marvel 76187 Venom. LEGO 71030 Looney Tunes Collectible Minifigures [Review]

In its unstoppable quest to bring every piece of your childhood memories under its umbrella, LEGO has added another venerable IP to its stable with the 71030 Looney Tunes Collectible Minifigures. Although LEGO has collaborated with Warner Brothers many times previously (The LEGO Movie was a WB production, after all, to say nothing of DC) Warner Brothers’ famous cartoon characters had not yet graced the LEGO aisle of your local toy store. The new series of 12 unique figures targets some of the best-known characters from the animated shorts with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Roadrunner, and others. And although the series is not explicitly marketed as such (there’s no reference on the packaging) it’s conveniently timed to coincide with this summer’s upcoming movie Space Jam: A New Legacy with LeBron James, and Lola Bunny with a basketball is included in the series. The new minifigures will be available for US $4.99 | CAN $4.99 | UK £3.49 starting April 26, although some readers report already seeing them pop up in stores now.

While LEGO’s official social feeds are busy revealing the new Looney Tunes collectible minifigures one by one, Canadian voice actor Eric Bauza doesn’t shy away from bragging a couple of boxes full of yet to be revealed Looney Tunes minifigures on his Twitter account. Last December, Eric was put in charge of voicing Bugs Bunny, so he doesn’t miss a chance to bring some of the new LEGO minifigures to life while unpacking them.
