More LEGO City summer 2019 sets revealed including new Fairground People Pack and Donut Shop [News]

LEGO’s summer wave of sets keeps rolling out, with the rest of LEGO City revealed today, consisting of four new sets. A new firetruck is pretty par for the course for the City lineup, but how about a donut shop under construction? There’s also a second new People Pack revealed, following the science-themed pack from the new City Space line. This one is set at the fairgrounds, featuring clowns, carnival games, and an ice cream stand and more.

The sets were revealed by Dutch retailer MisterBricks. As with some of the other recently revealed sets, we don’t have the exact release date for these, but we are able to provide approximate US prices thanks to the Euro prices listed by the retailer.

LEGO will make regional exclusive sets available worldwide starting next month [News]

Over the past year, LEGO has produced quite a few special sets with limited availability, including regional and retailer exclusives like the Chinese New Year sets and the Darth Vader Bust. Access to these products has typically been extremely limited, forcing many frustrated LEGO fans both in the US and abroad to go out of their way and pay exorbitant amounts of money from scalpers and other sites to obtain the sets. Starting in May, all that is about to change for the better.

What’s in the box? LEGO 5005704 Star Wars Mystery Box [Review]

Back in December, LEGO Stores in the US and Canada launched a Star Wars box promotion that featured 5 rare polybags. Earlier this month, it became available in the UK and select European countries, where it was again marketed as a Star Wars Mystery Box. (Specifically, the countries included Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Germany, France, and Belgium.) While both region-locked promotions are over, we’re here to have a quick look at what we found inside, though it should be noted that not all the boxes are the same. What’s in the box? Is it worth it? Let’s take a quick look first at what we found in our box and the promotion details.

Effortlessly graceful speederbike

A good LEGO speederbike looks futuristic and “swooshable”, but the very best also carry with them a functional design — a sense of realism allowing you to suspend disbelief in the same way the bike suspends the normal rules of gravity. This beautiful model by GoIPlaysWithLego certainly looks the part, with hints of a Tron-style future in its colour scheme and curves, but it also has that elusive realistic look. The trans-blue steering fins at the front, the whips used as power cables, the shaped panelling around the cockpit seat — all add to the functional feel. And as for that black spike element underneath — I’ve no idea what it does, but I don’t doubt that without it this bike would be unable to fly.

On a more prosaic note, the model’s stand continues the impressive design, enhancing the presentation without distracting attention from the central subject.

Loading on the power

LEGO mech suits generally come in one of two varieties — combat hulks clad in armour plating, or civilian-role rigs, stripped back to their mechanical bones. Andreas Lenander‘s Powerloader Exo Suit is a great example of the latter style — its frame festooned in greebles and mechanical-looking details. All-grey creations can lack impact, but the impressive depth of texture more than makes up for the lack of colour. There’s an obvious nod to Peter Reid’s classic Exo Suit design, but Andreas makes this version all his own with cogs broadening the shoulders, and a fearsome pair of toothed grippers for moving stuff around. Although this isn’t a military mech, you get the impression it wouldn’t do too badly if things turned nasty in the cargo bay.

I was lucky enough to see this model “in the brick” as Andreas and I installed models in the LEGO House Masterpiece Gallery. It looks even more impressive than in these photos, and if you make it to Billund this summer, I’d recommend you seek this out for a closer viewing.

Ambush on the Roman road

Sure, those Romans were tough enough when massed in their Legions. But catch them isolated from the main army? In a small group? On a lonely stretch of forest road? Let’s see how tough they are then. That appears to be what Jesse van den Oetelaar is asking in this LEGO scene depicting a trio of unsuspecting Legionaries about to walk into a Barbarian ambush. The irregular base and the greenery are the stars of the show here, with an impressive mix of shrubbery and foliage providing cover for the Barbarian assailants. It’s worth a close look at some of the techniques involved, and the mix of earthy colours deployed — this is a great example of how to build realistic undergrowth in LEGO.

LEGO Architecture Summer 2019 wave features Trafalgar Square and a towering Empire State Building [News]

LEGO’s has revealed new Creator, City/Space, and Ninjago sets for Summer 2019, and now it is time for Architecture. We previously saw 21045 Trafalgar Square revealed on a Facebook set-signing event, but this is the first look we’ve gotten of 21046 Empire State Building. This will be the the iconic New York skyscraper’s third (and by far largest) outing in LEGO form following the simple 21002 Empire State Building and the more recent 21028 New York City skyline set.

The sets were revealed by Belgian retailer Toy Champ with an estimated release date sometime in late May. We can provide approximate prices by converting from Euro to USD.

LEGO Avengers 76125 Iron Man Hall Of Armour [Review]

One of the benefits of being a billionaire is being able to afford plenty of storage space for all your toys. The new 76125 Iron Man Hall Of Armour set is LEGO’s take on Tony Stark’s state-of-the-art “mech wardrobe”. Marvel fans have been crying out for a set depicting this location since Iron Man first made his LEGO appearance. Let’s see if this set delivers against the anticipation.

The set has 524 pieces, features six minifigures and two robots, and is available now for US: $59.99 | Canada: 79.99 CAD | UK: £54.99.

LEGO Creator Summer 2019 wave features a new fairground ride, townhouse, helicopter and more [News]

LEGO’s Summer 2019 wave of sets is slowly taking shape with new Ninjago sets and the City theme going to space. In addition, we are also getting our first look at the LEGO Creator sets on their way. This wave features a new fairground ride, townhouse and pet shop building, a helicopter and a cabin.

The sets were revealed by Belgian retailer Toy Champ, and though we do not know their release date, we can provide approximate prices by converting from Euro to USD.

A different kind of Thunderbird

Ted Andes says his latest LEGO spaceship was partly modelled on the Cosmo-class starfighters of anime series Space Battleship Yamato. Regardless of the original inspiration, this is an excellent model, packed full of interesting angles, nice integration of Technic panels along with the regular bricks, and strong colour blocking. The white and orange add a pleasing burst of colour against the military-grey styling, and the restrained use of stickers works well, adding touches of detail without distracting the eye from the overall shape.

LEGO City is going to outer space with 6 new sets for summer 2019 [News]

Today the new Toy Story 4, Spider-Man, and The LEGO Movie 2 sets go on sale, and we’re also getting our first official glimpse at LEGO’s new City sets for this summer, and they’re far out. The new line will see LEGO astronauts exploring space with near-future tech. Although the line isn’t branded by NASA as some previous sets have been, most famously the NASA Apollo Saturn V, they do include a lot things that are distinctly inspired by the space agency’s real plans. The line includes a Mars rover, a small space station, a futuristic space shuttle, and even a large rocket that bears a resemblance to NASA’s SLS rocket. And perhaps most interestingly, there’s also a new people pack that’s themed to the line, with loads of engineers, scientists, astronauts, and other support crew.

The sets were revealed by Dutch retailer KelCha Toys, and while we don’t have an exact release date for them yet, we are able to give approximate prices thanks to the listed Euro prices from the retailer.

Your guide to the 21 new LEGO sets for mid-April 2019 including LEGO Movie 2, Toy Story 4, Spider-Man and Powered Up components [News]

LEGO typically releases new sets at the beginning of the month, but they have uploaded a mid-April wave of sets from The LEGO Movie 2, Spider-Man: Far from Home, Toy Story 4 as well as new Powered Up components. Of note, The Rexcelsior is the largest set released this month, the Spider-Man sets qualify for the current Avengers Tower gift with purchase, and Powered Up components are now available.

This wave is certainly a bit bigger than the 17 sets that came earlier this month but still short of the 112 new sets from this January. But no fear, we have your guide right here to each and every new set.
