Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of the best Batman games. While the Batmobile didn’t have a starring role in Arkham Knight, it did have a fantastic version of the famous car. Paying homage and giving us the best LEGO recreation of it so far is Eric Druon.
One thing to be noted here is the scale here. This model is (by my count) fourteen studs wide. While it may not seem to big from that metric alone, the Batmobile from 76045: Kryptonite Interception is twelve studs at its widest.
It’s a talent to build a good LEGO model of a character so that it looks like its source, but it’s even harder to imbue chunks of hard plastic with cuteness and personality. LEGO builder delayice has given these Stitch and Pikachu sculptures an extra helping of adorableness, though. Can’t you just feel Stitch’s lovable but mischievous mind working behind that grin?
I just returned from two weeks in Madrid, and managed to squeeze in some sightseeing around all-day meetings and three-hour dinners starting at 10 PM every night. One life-changing experience was seeing Pablo Picasso’s monumental anti-war painting “Guernica,” which commemorates the bombing of a Spanish town by the Nazi Luftwaffe on behalf of Franco’s fascist rebels. So, I’m not sure how I feel about an aggressive-looking LEGO space carrier bearing that name. Nevertheless, this ship by Leonardo Lopez has some seriously excellent angles. The prow in particular integrates orange parts from a LEGO City snowplow, and the dark gray stripes end with another sharp angle from flags.
The rear of the ship certainly isn’t lacking in sharp angles, with a pair of canted wings and a funky long tail. With judicious sticker usage throughout, about the only thing missing is a saying emblazoned along the ship’s hull. I think “This machine kills fascists” would do very nicely.
There’s that moment in Hayao Miyazaki’s Castle in the Sky when Pazu shares the simplest of meals with Sheeta: A single piece of toast with a fried egg. This might also be the simplest LEGO food sculpture by nobu_tary that we’ve featured, but it’s no less excellent with its simplicity. The toast itself uses some interesting studs-out building techniques in multiple colors, and the egg itself has multiple levels with an orange yolk — not merely a flat white disc with a yellow radar dish stuck onto it. Now I’m hungry…
I’ve written elsewhere that sumo is the greatest sport on earth, so I won’t belabor that point here. Because it’s my favorite sport, I always enjoy seeing LEGO creations inspired by Japan’s national sport. Krzysztof J has built this excellent sumo wrestler in a red mawashi, looking ready to take on the biggest and strongest Yokozuna. Krzysztof has used lever handles for the wrestler’s hair, while the round 1×1 plates are both inevitable and perfect as the big guy’s, uh, pectorals.
Ever since I had the chance at Brickworld Chicago 2011 to wear my good friend Ben’s LEGO Master Chief helmet, I wanted to construct a helmet myself. It was far more difficult to build than I expected, and was nothing like building other 1:1 scale builds. I’ve attempted this project before – first time in late 2011, and second in mid 2015, both failing. Finally, in 2016, I found a frame solution that worked well, and now I can present a wearable LEGO ODST helmet from the Halo series.

While LEGO had its try at creating a brick version of a Corvette in 75870: Chevrolet Corvette Z06, it was hampered by a small (minifig) scale and the need to make a sturdy set that kids could be play with.
Not affected by either of these constraints, Dave Slater has created a huge version of the 2015 Stingray Corvette Z51. If you need an idea of scale, LEGO’s minifig scale version is pictured right next to it.
This autumnal ranch scene will cause conflicting emotions. On one hand, you should love it because it’s beautifully built — Heikki Mattila has done a great job on the battered homestead, the tree, and the outlying structures like the well and pigsty. However, the muted color scheme and air of neglect and decay create a real sense of foreboding. LEGO creations are generally bright and cheery, the gloominess of this one makes for a strangely refreshing change.
Although the builder makes no mention of any zombie apocalypse, I can’t shake the feeling that the shambling undead are about to appear and chase the poor old dude off his porch.
In addition to his LEGO-fied versions of the il Duomo di Milano, the mosque of Al-Zaytuna in Tunis, and the busy streets of Amsterdam, the LEGO architectural-wizard, brickbink is adding a humble mechanic’s garage. That’s right, a garage. And it is spectacular!
The simple design of the building, roof, and the two styles of lettering on the facade are perfect. Brickbink also filled the interior of his building with mechanic goodies including various tools, car parts, jacks, toolboxes, and even a tiny fire extinguisher. And the placement of all these items makes the garage look truly authentic. Perhaps the only thing missing is a few oil spots on the floor.
When the 2016 reboot of DOOM launched we covered a collection of classic demons from the games that included a perfect rendition of the player character (sometimes called Doomguy). Those versions were comprised of Bionicle and Hero Factory parts, but today we’re looking at one created with more traditional bricks by Anton Sundström. Which one do you like best?
If you’re on the fence about DOOM, let me suggest my review of the game. As the year draws to a close it’s looking more and more like the best title to be released in 2016.
Here comes delayice with a smart bit of character building. The face is just brilliant — packed full of expression, and the hair is well done, particularly the hairband and bow. But this is one of those LEGO models that is less about the details as the overall design. The head is spot-on for this kind of build — clearly too big for the body, creating immediate comedy value and injecting a real dose of personality. I can just imagine this little minx loudly demanding extra dessert.
Sometimes an adventurer just has to go where nobody else wants to go. Why? For glory and honor of course! Also, treasure. I can only imagine that great treasures and equally great horrors lie behind this ancient LEGO door built by Marcin Guzicki. I hope Marcin’s lone adventure is up to the task ahead.
