Sebastian Arts (Aliencat) is one of those multi-talented builders capable of surprising me with each new LEGO creation. His latest is a nasty piece of work inspired by Warhammer 40K — the Necron Heavy Destroyer:

As someone obsessed with archaeological LEGO, the new BrickForge accessories for 2009 make me happy.
The Tribal Spear works perfectly as a scalloped obsidian blade from the Neolithic — just the sort of weapon for cavemen to take down a mastodon or mammoth:
The Tribal Sword is designed to resemble the Aztec macahuitl, inspiring me to give my Aztec god minifigs some Aztec warriors:
Of course, not all of the new BrickForge accessories are stone implements.
The Plasma Blaster and Crowbar enable LEGO fans to build video game minifigs like Master Chief from Bungie’s Halo and Gordon Freeman from Valve’s Half-Life:
The Goblin Sword and Goblin Shield allowed me to update my Uruk Hai minifigs from Lord of the Rings. What horde of orc minifigs would be complete without a Saruman minifig? Saruman wields a Sorcerer Staff.
The new Nightstick (right) combines with the older Military Helmet and Round Shield to create a policeman in riot gear.
Finally, the Particle Gun and Particle Pack (below) work beautifully for Ghostbusters. With multiple connection points like the Megagun, both of these new BrickForge accessories can hook up hoses or whatever else you can think of:
I have quite the backlog of ideas for musical minifigs, so I couldn’t decide which one to highlight BrickForge’s microphone. I’ll get to that new accessory later…
With so many things to inspire interesting minifigs, this may be my favorite batch of BrickForge accessories so far. All of the new stuff is available in both black and gray (though I still prefer BrickForge’s black accessories over their gray).

The LEGO Universe massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) first announced back in 2007 as being due in 2008 has now been pushed out to at least 2010:
The LEGO Universe team has decided to delay the game’s launch so that it gets the full attention of our company and fans when it makes it’s public debut. We have a ton of cool new products planned for release in 2009, and want to continue developing the game to make sure that LEGO Universe becomes a truly great game and LEGO experience.

As LEGO said to Kotaku last week, the reason is apparently not because the software development is behind schedule. Rather, LEGO’s traditional products — you know, those little plastic bricks — are doing so well that the company doesn’t want the game to distract from that success.
Works for me.

The Brothers Brick got an invite to the LEGO Preview at Toy Fair 2009, but we just couldn’t make it. :-( The good news is that our pals from FBTB and BrickJournal are covering this important event.
Although we’ve seen quite a few of the late 2009 LEGO sets from the earlier Canadian toy fair, there are still some surprises in store for LEGO fans.
The big news — particularly among LEGO Star Wars fans — seems to be the announcement of 10195 Republic Dropship with AT-OT Walker, here being shown off by Erik Varzegi:

In other news, LEGO and Disney have announced a deal to release LEGO sets based on three Disney movies: Toy Story, Cars, and Prince of Persia. (What, no LEGO Wall-E?)

Just in time for the second anniversary of Arvo’s Nintendo Game Boy, Joris Blok has posted great LEGO versions of two handheld video game consoles.

But this one is really good. Cole Blaq has created a rendition of a ship from Unreal Tournament 3. I think he’s done a great job of reproducing the shape of the original, while putting his own spin on it. The central section has a chunky heavily armored vibe that I really like.
In news sure to disappoint unsupervised tweens everywhere, knock-off construction toy company Mega Bloks announced that they’ve won the license to produce toys based on the Halo video game universe.
DRIVEN magazine has a roundup of the reaction from around the gamer community, but what does this mean to LEGO fans? What effect will this have on BrickForge (and their “Space Marine” armor) and BrickArms (with their sci-fi weapons)?

TT Games‘ publisher Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment just announced LEGO Battles for Nintendo DS. The game is due out this summer, and will apparently emphasize building in original themes over the movie-based and comic-inspired adventures of games like LEGO Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Batman.

Though the press release didn’t include an image, the game will also allow players to build Space creations.

The Brothers Brick has a long history of appreciation for Blizzard+LEGO, going all the way back to my fifth post (though lately Valve+LEGO is catching up). Here’s hoping the third StarCraft II creation in a month reveals a growing trend.
I am admittedly a Valve fanboy, and I especially love Portal, the acclaimed puzzle game originally bundled with The Orange Box. When I saw this vignette my Mister_007 featuring one of those child-like (and lethal) turrets, I had to blog it immediately. And remember, the turrets don’t hate you.
