Shake a tail feather and head to Ray’s Music Exchange

When two brothers, Jake and Elwood Blues, reform their band in the movie The Blues Brothers, they have high hopes of saving the orphanage in which they were raised from financial ruin. One slight issue is the requirement for musical instruments, and this leads the brothers to Ray’s Music Exchange where R&B genius Ray Charles has a cameo as the store owner. Nate Flood has built a perfect LEGO version of the infamous store, complete with a fantastic ‘LEGO-ized’ version of the famous mural.

Nathan’s build is not just an exterior though, as inside we can see Jake and Elwood strutting their stuff, with Ray Charles at the piano and the guys shaking some tail feathers with their guitars and saxophones.

Rustic Ferrari workshop filled with nostalgia

Dutch builder Michel Van den Heuvel is very much a Ferarri fan, which led him to build a rustic and charming little vintage-looking garage. His inspiration for the design came from various images found on the web, and led to a very unique build that stands out with simple yet delightful details, from a cobblestone street courtyard to brick-built lettering that spell out the full name of the company, Scuderia Ferrari. The trio of vintage Ferrari race cars lends an authentic touch to the scene.

Waiter, there’s a crab in my soup

Feast your eyes on this crustacean-themed restaurant and hostel called the Osaka Crab, built by Ian Hoy. This modular building can be split to reveal the restaurant within the ground and first floors [that’s first and second floors for you Americans – Ed] and then a couple of bedrooms on the next floor up for those who have eaten too much crab and can’t make it home. A lot of character has been packed into the building both inside and out – as you can see from the fantastic red, brick-built crab.

Build your own LEGO Citroën DS and then drive your minifig self through the Vézère Valley [Instructions]

The vintage French Ghostbusters-themed Citroën DS we featured here a few days ago was certainly adorable, but what if you want to build your own early 1970’s LEGO Citroën DS? Creator OutBricks comes to the rescue with step-by-step instructions for the DS on which he based his “Ecteau-un”.

All aboard the Zagreb Funicular!

Probably thanks to perceptions created by movies like Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, I’ve always thought that funiculars were somehow a uniquely European mode of transportation. Although that’s not actually the case, they definitely have a certain Old World, vaguely steampunk vibe — reinforced by the fact that many of them were first built in the 19th century. Croatian builder Sven Franic has lovingly recreated the Zagreb Funicular, a tram that takes passengers up a relatively short incline in his hometown.

9,000 piece 1:13 scale LEGO Peterbilt 379 is show ready

There are LEGO semi-trucks, and then there is this beautiful beast by Bricksonwheels. The builder has crafted a 1:13 scale Peterbilt 379 and it is just gorgeous. It has the appropriate amount of chrome to blind drivers running down I-40 in the summer.

This tanker combo is over 150cm long and made of over 9,000 bricks. Much of the chrome is custom. The builder says it took about 5 months of work, including over 200 LEDs (controlled via remote). This creates quite the impressive lightshow! The builder credits Brickstuff for the lights and Bricks4all.nl for the chrome.

Labour of love pit stop for hot rods recreated from real life

Once in a while you see a build that not only looks great, but simply blows it out of the water, combining great details and huge playability potential. This build by Andrea Lattanzio of a famous hot rod workshop is surely one of them. What brings this place to life are the small details scattered around, such as the electrical poles and the junkyard at the side.

Andrea tells us a little history of the Mooneyes Headquarters, where gearheads and hot rod modders hang out to get their repairs and mods. Today, Mooneyes is still located in Santa Fe Springs, California, where it’s been since 1962. The builder is obviously a huge fan, and has painstakingly recreated the full workshop layout inside.

Keep your Mini running like new with this well-oiled shop

This fantastic service shop by _BrickBro_ will tune your official 10242 Mini Cooper to tip-top shape, with just a quick engine and transmission replacement. It’s got all the necessary tools and accessories to spruce up that evergreen hatchback, from replacement hubs to new steering wheels.

Based on the popular youtube series Mighty Car Mods, the shop features hosts Marty and Moog walking viewers through their top-to-bottom restoration of this cult classic car.

A five-star hotel experience in LEGO

It’s quite the experience to encounter white-gloved, five-star service in a hotel. This beautiful hotel from pinioncorp looks like it should have plenty of bellhops, a personalized front desk, and a staff who anticipates your every need. The front of the building is stately, with classic lines and lovely architecture:

In contrast, the rear of the hotel features an urban paradise, with a gorgeous balcony and a fountain full of flowers and vines. This gives the guests a truly lovely place to relax after exploring the city all day.

Designer interior with feature brick wall

There are so many lovely details in Heikki Mattila‘s latest LEGO interior. The exposed brick wall and the painting provide a smart and stylish backdrop, and the glass tables look very classy. However, closer attention is rewarded with some lovely touches — a golden spaceman visor as a designer bowl, Gollum/Frodo’s precious ring adding lustre to the lamp, and Technic half-pins for the little round legs of the IKEA-style sofa. The best detail of all is perhaps a little lost, slightly washed-out in this image — don’t miss the use of grille bricks, partially inset into the floor, to create the effect of the white rug at the room’s centre.

Custom Modular features amazingly detailed LEGO store sprawling across 3 floors

Malaysian builder Shirley Yoong brings us this amazing Modular-style LEGO store. Built with a yellow and black theme, it features an almost classical Art Deco grand facade. It feels as though it were a residence, such as an apartment building, now transformed into a modern store with steps leading up to the front entrance. Consisting of approximately 3,000 bricks, it’s sized to be placed amongst the official LEGO Modular series like Assembly Square, and the builder says it took roughly a month to design.

It’s not just a pretty facade, though. The interior is packed from top to bottom with details.
