Aren’t you cold, Finn? Walk into the well, Finn!

Now that the mathematical cartoon show Adventure Time is up to 260-something episodes, I must admit I’ve fallen waaaay behind, so I was pleased that this splendid collection of AT vignettes by Tim Lydy were based on stuff I actually remember watching! Here we see Finn battling a brick-built version of The Lich over a great rendition of the Well of Power. Meanwhile Jake eats a sandwich, naturally, BECAUSE HE’S A DOG. Tim makes great use of the LEGO Dimensions Finn and Jake minifigs in these scenes, and the inclusion of a certain gastropodic Easter egg in each one also makes me very happy.

Merry Christmas, Mr Bean

Mr Bean, the comedic character both created and played by Rowan Atkinson, is a firm favourite all over the world. He has a tendency to get into all sorts of trouble while attempting to achieve relatively mundane tasks, but the comedy value often relates to his innovative solutions to any problems he encounters. Patrick B has built a LEGO version of Mr Bean’s house with lots of details that relate to the Christmas special episode Merry Christmas, Mr Bean.

Mr. Bean´s Home

I am a huge fan of Mr Bean and recognised so many of the little details in this fun creation, from the mouse hole and ingenious LEGO mousetrap (mouse gets a piece of cheese in his Christmas stocking and it is ‘served’ on the mouse trap), the stocking hanging on the fireplace, the stolen Christmas tree, and the infamous turkey that awaits Mr Bean’s attentions later in the episode.

When Mr Bean finds that the television shows are less than ideal, he hears the sounds of carol-singers outside. The alternative view below shows that this detail has also been captured with a couple of young singers in the background ready to lull Mr Bean into an deep oblivious sleep.

To boldly go and explore the final frontier

Imagine a time when the Dominion war is over and the Borg threat has been defused. In this timeline Starfleet will return to its primary mission of exploration. Ben Smith has created the USS Utah, a survey vessel designed to orbit promising planets and use her expanded sensor capabilities to extensively map their surfaces. She is a beautiful ship with those red and yellow highlights and the grey greebles visible just to the rear of the bridge. I love the two shuttles launching from the large central shuttle bay, jetting off to explore the unknown.

Ben’s inspiration for this ship actually stemmed from a piece of concept art of a ship called the USS Iowa by Ryan Dening.

Defending the Earth against an invasion of 1970’s UFOs

In the 1970s a British television sci-fi show about an alien invasion of Earth called UFO was shown in the UK and Canada. It was created by Gerry Anderson and Sylvia Anderson, who had previously made several successful children’s science fiction programmes, the most famous of which was ThunderbirdsAndrea Lattanzio‘s latest build is the show’s S.H.A.D.O. Moonbase Interceptor, the primary defence spacecraft of a highly secretive agency called Supreme Headquarters, Alien Defence Organisation or SHADO for short. Andrea has really captured the hull shaping and red stripe details of the Interceptors with their comical nose-mounted nuclear missiles. The Interceptor is instantly recognisable to those of a certain age ;-)

Not content with just having the outward shaping, the cockpit and roof can be removed to show some interior details including control sticks, a comfy red pilot seat, and some powerful-looking engine areas.

My only slight concern is the fit of the cockpit wind-shield, as the gaps might be a little “problematic” in the vacuum of space.

Happy happy joy joy!

Every generation of kids has its cartoon with jokes that are far funnier to the adults in the room, and growing up that was Ren & Stimpy for me. Julius von Brunk has given us this spot-on rendition of Stimpson J. Cat, affectionately known as Stimpy. It has it all: the round red body, the tiny ears, and the giant blue nose. His eyes gaze off into the distance, with the tongue hanging out for everyone to see. Julius does a fantastic job capturing the things that make Stimpy so recognizable, with his roundness and simplicity.

Nassau is full of pirates and intrigue

I confess, I have not watched Black Sails. I know, I’m sorry! I plan on fixing that. But I don’t need any context to appreciate this lovely diorama based on the show by Mpyromaxos, depicting a busy scene with arson, theft, and property damage – which I understand is all pretty normal for pirates. There’s a lot of great detail to take in, and some easter eggs too. How many characters do you recognize?

I’ve got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel

Most people know Rowan Atkinson from his most famous character Mr. Bean, who we’ve featured before driving his car. For a lot of us though, his greatest comic character was the infamous Edmund Blackadder. And now Letranger Absurde has made this acerbic anti-hero the subject of his latest brilliant character build – from his goofy conical hat to the tips of his pointy boots.

Gotta get back, back to the past

After a 12 year hiatus, the 5th and final season of Samurai Jack is finally here! (…though Cartoon Network has now moved it to their night-time adult swim segment). Based on these stunning LEGO busts, I’d guess Yu Chris has a soft spot for the time-traveling samurai and his diabolical shape-shifting foe Aku.

Samurai Jack & AKU

From their angry expressions to Yu’s color choices, these models capture the cartoon’s unique artistic style. In particular, I love how Yu nailed Jack’s massive square jaw and top knot, and Aku’s iconic silhouette.

LEGO her Eggo, or she’ll send you to the Upside Down

Fan conventions are a good gauge for which new movies and shows have wormed their way into the public consciousness. And from what I just witnessed at Emerald City Comic Con, the character Eleven from the hit Netflix series Stranger Things seems to represent the current zeitgeist. Eleven cosplayers were everywhere – both male, female, and even feline! A giant version of the Eleven pop vinyl was stationed outside the Funko booth. And Eleven actress Millie Bobby Brown even showed up to snag a copy for herself. Logic therefore dictated that this should be the subject of my latest pop culture LEGO creation:

To give the model a little more authenticity, I created custom stickers to decorate the waffles and Eggo boxes. I am also working on a presentation of the model for BrickCan that mimics the lightly-Photoshopped scene below in which Eleven demonstrates her paranormal control over toastable breakfast products:

Now dust off your calculator watches, BMX bikes and 1st edition Dungeon Master’s guides, because season two of the nostalgia-ramic sci-fi show drops this Halloween!

The LEGO Movie’s Unikitty is getting her own TV show on Cartoon Network [News]

The LEGO Movie may have a spinoff TV show about Unikitty out sooner than the movie’s sequel, according to a Russian Cartoon Network reel. Following the cancelation of the animated Mixels cartoon, it seems Unikitty is coming to save the day with her adventures in Cloud Cuckoo Land and beyond, featuring a whole new crew of characters. (I can only guess that the one pictured below will be called Unipuppy!)

Initiate Megazord sequence! Amazing LEGO Power Rangers Megazord is actually made of separate Dinozords

The new Power Rangers movie opened in theaters yesterday, exciting ’90s kids everywhere as the first major motion picture in the franchise in 20 years.  LEGO hasn’t picked up the license for Power Rangers, but that hasn’t stopped eager fans from building their favorite characters, such as this boss Megazord by ckb ckd.

The coolest part, though, is that it actually transforms into the 5 Dinozords.
