Proving that there is life after building a monumentally large Star Destroyer, Polish builder Jerac put together this stylish little Auriga Mk III speeder in just a couple of hours. With its concept-car curves and wraparound canopy, this design would not look out of place in some futuristic thriller (…so I’m assuming that’s a Tom Cruise mini-fig!).
I love using Bionicle pieces in non-Bionicle themed models, and it appears that Brother Steven shares that sentiment. This awesome spacesuit looks like a cross between Bioshock and Apollo, and it’s brilliant. Kudos to Steven’s brother Mark, too, for the lovely presentation, which definitely kicks this model up a notch.
The Homeworld series of games featured some truly fantastic space ship designs, providing inspiration for tons of Lego space ships, but I’ve never seen anyone attempt to render a copy of this particular ship before now. De_chef has built a micro scale version of the epic Bentusi harbor ship from the games. As you can see above, he’s incorporated lights, and delivered photos that really show off the shape and illumination. Beyond that, he also built a series of smaller ships to accompany it in display, really bringing the scale to the forefront.
To boldly go to space – the final frontier – and prosper, my friend.
My mangled Star Trek quotes aside, this magnificent Enterprise model comes to us from Chris Melby. Chris has done a fantastic job with the circular disk of this iconic ship, managing to make it entirely studless. Don’t be deceived, though, this is actually a huge model at over 5 feet in length.
7 years ago, Rob (Dasnewten) posted the first of his many mindblowing starfighter designs. Throughout the years since and in spite of the many incredibly builds he’s posted, it’s a design he’s continued to return to and refine, resulting in the radically evolved RG-101. It’s a glorious combination of clean lines and gorgeous details that looks better than most of the stuff produced by major studios.
Chris Nolan’s latest movie Interstellar is an epic adventure across time and space, accompanied by an equally epic and thunderous soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. It was by far the most enjoyable cinematic experience I’ve had since Nolan’s mind-bending 2010 masterpiece Inception.
It’s been fun watching various Interstallar-inspired builds emerge over the past few months, most of which – not that surprisingly – focus on the movie’s stylish Ranger spacecraft. But I think Taiwanese builder jp_velociraptor has just created the definitive version:
This is not simply a LEGO sculpture of the distinctive ship, it’s a complete play set! The model opens up to reveal a cockpit with room for all the explorers and one of their clunky robot companions (also shown below in “rescue mode”). Very impressive work indeed.
I heartily recommend that you see this movie. I won’t give anything away… but it’s as emotionally draining as it is visually and sonically mesmerizing. So I strongly suggest you bring a box of tissues with you to the movie theater ;-)
This sweet low-slung ride by Jeff Churill looks ready to get into all manner of trouble, and do it with more than a bit of panache. Jeff started a business, Cooper Works, a year or two ago making stickers for LEGO models, and he’s proven that’s he’s got the building chops to put his own products to excellent use.
If NASA had done it as well as this version by duo Sean and Steph Mayo, maybe they’d have gotten away with it. Rarely am I a fan of non-LEGO elements added to a creation, but in this case the moon dust really takes this up a notch. The best detail here for me, though, is the brick-built tires (a combination of words which rarely refers to anything good).
I’m a firm believer that adding ‘Space’ to anything makes it more awesome. So what do you get when you add Space to trucks (which are already awesome), you get Jason Corlett‘s epic Space Truck:

What I’ve always loved with Jason’s build is his attention to detail and realistic feel to his out of this world creations. A great example is the the awesome cab opening and the engine in the back:
This time of year in the northern hemisphere can be a bit depressing, especially as far north as it is here at TBB headquarters (poor Lemur…). Peteris Strogis sheds some light on this dark time with this futuristic, solar-powered vehicle. Every greeble seems to have a purpose, and the rear tires built from track treads are inspired.
Daniel Church takes a slick approach to future sea travel with this cool little skiff. My favorite part is how the wedge plates angling with one another make a striking visual motif that really brings this model together. The addition of the dock and particularly the style of the lamppost lend a bit of context to the craft and the world it inhabits.
